I enjoy spending more time with my patients in MRI and not feeling so rushed! I also think MRI is so cool and fascinating! Xray can be very fast paced with very quick exam turnaround time. Oooo I need to try and make that soon! Thank you for the rec! 😊
Hey Julia! I have always loved watching your work videos. I just started working in CT in September and I love it! I’m hoping to eventually cross train into MRI so I can then have 3 modalities under my belt. Take care 😊
as someone who wants to become an mri tech, this was very insightful! what was your path into becoming an mri tech? i know that people can go to a community college to get an associates degree but the stigma of community college sets me back even though it would be faster and cheaper
Hi there! I'm about to graduate with an A.S. from a community college and I can say the ability to graduate with minimal loans (if any) is the biggest plus to community college. There are so many great programs out there! In my area, you need the associates from an xray program, then you can take the xray registry/boards, then from there you can move into other modalities like CT & MRI. You just need some training, you'll have to get signed off on comps, then you can take a boards & get certified in that modality. Hope this helps!
I went to a community college for their 21-month Radiologic Technology program. After graduation and taking radiography boards, I found a job that allowed me to cross train into CT and MRI. I did all of my didactic credits through ASRT
@JuliaKristine great video! I've been looking for the right job possibility for the military and there's a radiology specialist position, takes 46 weeks of training, it's a big question, is this something you would recommend doing? Going the military route to get this type of civilian job?
Hey, I’ve been wanting to do MRI tech for a while, but I only have one hand. Is this something that you recommend for me? I’ve always failed things out in my life with one arm. Is this something that might prevent me from doing my job?
Hitachi oasis? I worked on one before it was good but abdominal work wasn’t great. I haven’t tried that CT scanner yet currently working on a Phillips ct machine.
Oh sorry I wasn’t being sarcastic! I can see how my wording made it look that way though. I was happy to see you show details about your job and warn us about the factor meal you didn’t enjoy! I was remarking how many people don’t do that in their videos. 😊
How long did it take you after school to get trained in CT and MRI? I am looking into radiology because I think there is more growth opportunity, I don't want to be stuck in just one thing. My other choice is Sonography. I am having a difficult time deciding! This video was awesome and so helpful!
CT took about 6 months & MRI took about 9 months to become fully registered! Sonography is a great modality too! The one part of sonography that turned me away was the fact they have to know soooo many different pathologies, diseases, etc. The sonographer I work with has to write up a tech sheet to give to the Radiologist basically diagnosing what they scanned! It's a lot of liability 😅 it's such a great field though!
i was kind of bummed out when i saw we couldn’t have nail polish of any kind and i see you have them! is this non magnetic kind ? also i’m a black woman who’s hair is mostly in protective weave styles do you think it’d pose a problem ?

The tech would only get exposed if they were in the room when the machine is actively scanning (the noises you're hearing when I'm next to it is the generator). It's a rare occurrence to have to be in the room during scanning and the techs have to wear lead aprons if they're in the room during active exposure
Totally depends where you work! I work at an outpatient clinic. 8-5 M-F, no weekends, evenings, overnights, holidays! Hospital shifts are going to vary from days, evenings, overnights and the hours totally depend on your shift!

yes lol we do barium enemas in xray & small bowel series, both can get messy sometimes. Just remember your patients are human and they never MEAN to make that kind of mess. My program director also told us all to carry around a little vicks vapo rub to put inside your mask. Works wonders! Good luck to you!

If I need a MRI will a hip replacement hip and because I was shot in the past and I was told that it might affect my chances of having a MRI scans done 👍✅.
