    Your annoyance with Greys Anatomy TV show is so true! I am an MRI technologist in Seattle, WA so I totally understand and appreciate what you’re saying. So many people ask me what their results are of the scan and/or ask me if I am a radiologist. No, and no. I am not a doctor and no I cannot read and interpret your scans. That is practicing medicine without a medical license. Lol. I wish shows like that would honor all healthcare workers in their true light instead of making it seem as though there are ONLY surgeons and nurses in healthcare. We have technologists, transporters, phlebotomists, respiratory therapists, lab techs, and so many more! I too watch the show but I always get so annoyed watching how wrong they get my chosen profession.

      I want to go back to school to be an xray tech (I'm in my 40s, but I don't think it's ever too late to do something). After going through a couple of MRI's (because of endo...and then ended up with early stage ovarian cancer) and having xrays, CT's, ultrasounds, etc... I became more interested in it. This year I binge watched Grey's Anatomy and got into it, but when the doctors wanted a CT scan for the patient and then the next time they are in the scan, it's not a CT, but an open MRI. I cringed and laughed too at the fact that they didn't know the difference.

      @@fiddlegirl79 it is never too late to go back, I whole heartedly agree. Please do, there is a technologist shortage and you are needed in the field. X-ray background you can go into any other modalities afterwards too. I am sorry you had to go through all thw health scaries. I hope that you are healed and better now. 🤍

      @@stephanielacoco Thanks Stephanie. I am doing a lot better now. My last chemo treatment was November of last year! I do plan on going back eventually. Don't have the money right now to go back to school. I also wanted to wait a little bit to make sure my health stays solid before I decide to go back. I plan on applying for a job at my local hospital later this month to help with money...and I think the hospital will help with cost of the school when I go back if I work there.

    i'm in a 2 year program as well currently it's also a community college and it's a D.M.I. program that is very well known and has a good reputation for producing good X-RAY TECHNOLOGISTS it's 1,950 clinical hrs after we finish all of our academic learning like A&P, ENGLISH, Integration of patient care etc.. there is a local hospital for our clinical rotations/ for our 1,950 hrs etc.. I was originally going to get into Nursing but I am very glad I looked into X-RAY / radiology etc.. prior to getting into a Nursing program.

    Julia, I really want to thank you for this video! I have been through a lot trying to figure out want I wanted to do. I had my mind set on CT in 2020 but letting family members and friends get in my head really made it difficult for me. I finally got myself together and going for something I really want. I start my rad tech program in June and I was wondering how could I become a CT tech without paying 4,000$ and another year of schooling at my local technical college. Do you think it's worth it to go for a degree off the bat in MRI instead of X-Ray? I live in a rural area and the closest school for X-Ray is over 2 hours away but there is an MRI program about 45 min from me. I like the idea of being able to spend time with 1 patient longer than having to do a ton of X-Ray patients because I'm a people person and think I'd enjoy the imagine part of MRI more. I know someone who is a X-Ray tech who says to do X-Ray and THEN learn MRI but I'm wondering if it is worth going a longer route to the goal or MRI or just going for the MRI program. Thoughts?
    Also, with Grey's I laugh at how they handle EVERY part of patient care, they portray it like the doctor is doing everything when they ignore ED Techs, nurses, CNAs, all aspects of imaging, etc. but then I think, if they showed how it really was the episodes would have to be forever long because most people have no clue how things actually are in healthcare lol

      if i am not mistaken, you can't just go to mri. bare minimum for a modality is at least having xray schooling degree. then either get on the job training or go into a year long mri course, get certified in it, etc.

    • @omarperez7653
      @omarperez7653 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sidology1.0 MRI is a primary pathway. You don’t need x ray for it.

    • @omarperez7653
      @omarperez7653 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MRI is very different from the other modalities. With MRI it’s truly an art. You control every aspect of the imaging process to produce images with the desired contrast. You can make beautiful images, or you can make images in a super fast way. You get to really use your brain, it’s all theoretical physics. X ray is just, taking a picture pretty much. I’d go straight to MRI if there is enough employees who take MRI certification in lieu of x ray licensure. If most employers want you to be x ray in your state, then just do x ray first.

      Hi! I see blood on a daily basis when I start IVs and draw blood for creatinine exams! Also, radiology is involved in almost all traumas that come through the ER so you may encounter some gnarly things. Also rad techs (specifically x-ray) go into surgery to run a machine called a c-arm, so you will see it often there too! We were required to go into surgery cases for my program, so it's kind of unavoidable :(

      No Julia obviously haha but I work in the US. I was a dental assistant for a long time and now I'm an x-ray tech. The amount of time it takes to become a dentist is around 12 YEARS of schooling. That includes a master's degree (about 6 years), a doctorate (about 2-3 years), and a residency (about 2 years). And if you specialize in orthodontics, pediatrics, oral surgery, etc, that adds years too depending on which you choose. The knowledge I needed as an assistant to take x-rays was pretty minimal and the knowledge you get in dental school is taught throughout. It would be a waste of time, energy and money to become an x-ray tech before starting the dental route. To answer your question though, you could study as a tech, assuming you can handle the load.

      Registered means you have graduated a rad tech program and passed your ARRT boards and have earned your R.T.(R) credentials.
      Licensed is dependent on each state. For example:
      - North Dakota requires technologists to be registered through ARRT and licensed through the state’s organization, NDMIRTB, in order to legally work
      - Minnesota only requires technologists to be registered through ARRT to legally work

    Is xray harder than ultrasound?

      I’m not an ultrasound technologist, so I wouldn’t be able to answer your question! From what I’ve seen while shadowing though, ultrasound seems harder - in my opinion

    You should start reacting to stuff like other medical TH-cam channels do. I think as a radiology technologist you should react to the Michael Vey book series by Richard Paul Evans and assess its accuracy. So basically in the books, medical device company Elgen Inc developed a new imaging machine that was supposed to be more advanced than MRI technology called the MEI (Magnetic Electron Induction) that was supposed to detect diseases like cancer early on using electrons. They got FDA approval for limited human testing in a hospital, but it malfunctioned and caused newborn babies in the hospital to develop electrical superpowers. I wonder if a machine like the MEI could be possible in the future.

    💦💦..
    I've got one more question for you... have you ever measured the Magnetic EMF Elecforce on the MRI machine?
    I have an Accoustimeter that measures the EMF "toxic" magnet levels on heavy appliances from its magnetic force.. I would like to know the difference in the levels measured when you close the door vs. when you are up & close to the machine inside the examination room. also, I would like to measure its levels when the machine is not in use.
    I have now been aware that the magnets are always constantly on at all times & so I'm concerned.
    thanks in advance.

    hi which is more hard sonography or xray tec as per study is considered .... and do you have to move machines as sonographers do ... which is a more hard job as comparing these two

      I’m not a sonographer so I don’t have the experience to answer your question! Maybe someone else can help out!

    if i skip rad tech and go straight into an MRI program and get hired as an MRI technologist would it be possible to be cross-trained in CT?

    • @JuliaKristine
      @JuliaKristine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately no! CT is considered a post-primary pathway with the ARRT. This means you would have to be ARRT registered in Radiography, Nuc Med, or Radiation Therapy first in order to be registered in CT. I know it's confusing, so this page might help explain it a little better! www.arrt.org/pages/earn-arrt-credentials/initial-requirements/postprimary-requirements/education-requirements-postprimary/supporting-category-requirements

    If you are not vaccinated and want to go into medicine, it is probably not the field for you... just imo. how are you going to practice aspects of medicine but not get a simple vaccine to protect yourself.
