I live in the UK but have visited both from time to time. Personally I think Guernsey is the better Island. Guernsey has a more relaxed feel, slower pace of life. The beaches lovely on Guernsey. The smaller islands like Herm and Sark are Beautiful. If I had to choose to go to Guernsey or Jersey it would be Guernsey every Time. Keep up the good work my Partner and I love them. We are looking at coming over later this year, if not it will be next year.
I think you must visit both Islands. The one that's in your mind, heart and soul is problebly the best island vor you. I visited Guernsey the first time in 1966 and it was and will be always the best island . I would say I have feelings for Guernsey.
I haven’t even visited and I’ve already fallen in love with Guernsey just from the videos and research I’ve done. Amazing little place. With such a rich history! We watching a documentary tonight 🙌
Having worked on both islands - I was always warmly welcomed to Guernsey and the St Peter Port seemed much less " corporate effected" than the other island. Must say these chats are very informative - excellent !
It’s always a fascinating question this one. I grew up in Jersey, but moved to Guernsey en famille in 2007. I’m glad I grew up over there on the other island, it definitely has more offerings for younglings, that’s for sure. Although I do miss some elements of it, I doubt very much I’d ever move back there now. Guernsey is WAY more chilled out to live in, but I do try to get back ‘home’ to visit family at least twice a year.
Thanks, I think that you did a fair comparison of the two islands. I have lived in Jersey for four years, the healthcare system here works like this: Everyone is entitled to A & E treatment but if you are a visitor or you have lived in Jersey for less than 6 months, you must pay to visit a doctor (£50 to £60), you must pay for prescriptions (about £10) and you must pay to see a specialist or have an operation. When you have lived in Jersey for 6 months you can apply for a Health Card which gives you free prescriptions and hospital care but we still have to pay for doctors appointments. I would be interested to know how the healthcare system works in Guernsey. 😊
Bit of a fixation about the Zoo guys, Guernsey for me every time but then I've never knowingly set foot on Jersey whereas I've visited every other one and love them all.. 🤣
I have worked on both Islands. Both are lovely but Guernsey is definitely my favourite. Quaint, relaxed, clean and well looked after, Can you still not buy alcohol or petrol on a Sunday?
i taught for a year in Jersey so sampled Jersey life. - much prefer Guernsey. That was in 1959 and things have changed dramatically since then. I have the same problem here (NZ) - not many people know where Guernsey is - they tend to know Jersey more. And of course world wide few people knew about NZ in the early days - we were part of Australia!!
Absolutely true, depends. But both islands are absolutely stunning and a class in its own. Been to both of them many times, they are not as far apart from each other as some islanders say. But if I had to make a choice, sorry Jersey, I'd be a donkey, St Peter Port and its harbour make the difference... 🙂
One point to add is the ease of travel off the island. Jersey has EasyJet flights to and from the UK whereas Guernsey is only served by Aurigny, Blue Islands and British Airways which are all much more expensive than Jersey. In fact, it’s cheaper to either come across in a car on the ferry or fly to jersey and get the ferry across than fly with Aurigny.
Interesting - we are talking about which Island to move to and have been flip flopping lots. I want relaxed and easy but also shops when I want a spending kick. We will be early retired so no worries about work, can afford healthcare so that's ok and bless enough that we can afford either housing market. This has been really helpful
With no annual car tax or mot and no Mc Donald's its a Thumbs up for Guernsey. Stats show Jersey is slightly warmer in the summer but colder then Geurnsey in the winter being more northerly it catchers more of the golf stream.
A newbie. I really enjoyed your perspective on the differences between the islands. I've always wanted to visit the channel islands for years. I definitely want to visit both. Thank you!
Fantastic vid, thanks. You may surprised how similar your comparisons are to the Massachusetts islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Again, thanks.
Have been to Jersey once but to Guernsey 15 times. Jersey is fine but Guernsey has serious emotional weight in its favour. I find it hard to express the importance of Guernsey in my life and my survival. Am hoping to return but in present world situation, so don't know. I hope that things go better and we can find a way to return. Please God we can, all blessings to you, so want to come back! Rosie x
👍 Holiday between Jersey 🇯🇪 and Guernsey 🇬🇬 for about 6 weeks each year, IMHO Jersey has more to see, especially at sunset, the views are stunning- though St.helier is now spoilt by commercial property, Guernsey's st.Peter port still has it's old charm, though after a couple of weeks struggling to find new places to see.
I love Guernsey and have visited 6 or 7 times, but as I stay with my ex relatives (And want to keep them sweet) I haven’t visited Jersey (I know when I’m on to a good thing ;)) joking aside Guernsey is a stunning island, and even though there might not be a ton of things to do, I can’t imagine ever being bored there. Cheers for the videos
When we had a family holiday in Guernsey, our daughter became I'll, this was probably in the late 80s, we thought the cost of the doctor and prescription was reasonable
I recently visited Jersey and I have instantly fallen in love with the island. Is Guernsey similar in terms of quality of life? The property laws in jersey are a nightmare for someone born and raised in England because I’d have to live there for a minimum of 10 years before I can buy a house. Does guernsey have laws like this for those not born in Guernsey? Is it true that Guernsey is cheaper than Jersey?
If you have a permit to work in Guernsey, you can rent or buy a house. After 7 years you no longer require a permit and are basically a Guernsey citizen. My daughter has a permit to work and live here and I'm retired and live with her as I have a family member permit. House prices are huge though, dearer than London. 500K gets you very little. Rental is pretty high too. There's an open market for houses that is very expensive and a cheaper local market for Guernsey people and those with permits.
Out of interest how does it feel trying to get off the islands for vacations (Jersey or Guernsey) either by plane or boat (to say UK, Europe or even further)? Which one feels easier to get in and out of?
Cast a vote for Jersey here, driving in Guernsey is an insanely frustrating experience. The roads are that bit narrower and it makes the difference, constantly having to come to a halt and either give way or reverse. More countryside around Jersey where it’s easy to get away from people, Guernsey is noticeably more built up. There’s not a single beach on Guernsey that can compete with St Ouens or Plemont. Jersey has more beaches and almost all of them are better than their equivalent in Guernsey (with the possible exception of Fermain). Guernsey does feel nice in that it does feel like a slower pace of life (but let’s face it, it’s hardly midtown Manhattan in St Helier) and St Peter Port is unquestionably prettier than St Helier. I’ve got fond memories of visiting Guernsey as a kid, it’s where my family are from originally but Jersey just has more to offer (in my humble opinion).
I have lived and worked in both Guernsey and Jersey - I vote Guernsey every time. Jersey you could be in the UK. I also found Guernsey people much friendlier.
Hi, I understand most people are original from the UK. Are there also people from other parts of Europe? I'm from the Netherlands and thinking about moving.
Interesting video... Didn't know Guernsey people came to shop in Jersey. Jersey people sometimes go to shop in England because there's not enough choice on island! From Jersey you can see the islands Guernsey, Herm and Sark from the north coast and west coats, but it's very distant. You can also see France very clearly from the East coast, including things like the windmills and the lights at night. You're right that there's no day trip options to other islands (you can go to Sark on a day trip I think), but we do have our little islands (noone lives there) of Les Ecrehous, Elizabeth Castle and Les Minquiers. Plus there are day trips on island like the Zoo, which you don't get in Guernsey.
Very interesting and revealing, thank you. I think Guernsy is ideal for retired people is like heaven on earth for them🙂. Are there natural remedies intead of drugs? I find the medical care there must be rather good as one has to pay which in a way is good begause you get the service, the love and that is healing in itself, isn't it? Are there Ayurvedic doctors and remedies as well, because they're very good, the best. Thank you for shearing such fascinating info about these islans, bless them and yourselves for what you're doing. Your "studio" looks top notch, wonderful people🙂👏.
A revisit to your video :) I live in a town that is 11 square miles and the population is just over 94 thousand, it's like being packed into a can of sardines, btw that's not counting the 2000+ undocumented migrants that was coached into the area over several weeks in the middle of the night hoping no one would notice it.
Hi, here is some information for you about buying property in guernsey www.ogier.com/news-and-insights/insights/buying-an-open-market-house-and-living-in-guernsey/#
As someone else mentioned, Jersey beaches are great and Guernsey doesn’t come close. Plus the pink granite on the south of Jersey is much prettier than limestone and black rock. Yes, St Peter Port nicer than St Helier. Point for Guernsey there. Slower pace of life in Guernsey I could also agree with.
I have been to Guernesey (and Sark) one time, and to Jersey two times. I had marvellous stays in both. I will visit again as I live in Brittany not far from the ferry port. Thank you for your answer.
OMG, get a life. Everything on Guernsey is on the top of the rock. You have to come down into St Peterport, becuz it is at the edge of the quarry. The Renouf family owned the quarry, and when they couldn't go any deeper, they blasted out the side and created the harbour. That is why the cruise ships can visit Guernsey, where as in Jersey the harbour isn't deep enough for the ships to come in.
Hey guys! Thanks for this channel. I have an interesting question and maybe you could actually do an episode on this… but how would we fare living in Guernsey if WW3 broke out? I think our chances are better there then here in South Africa that’s for sure. You guys have bunkers and such. Hmm, but also have a big military? I don’t know much about Guernsey but I’ve been studying it like crazy because of our opportunity to go there. We are very excited I must say. It looks like the most beautiful safe island. I’ve looked at Jersey and But definitely fell in love with Guernsey. Hopefully see you soon! Haha! Love and Peace ❤️

So you had the best of both worlds?
How much is it on average to commute between Jersey and Guernsey?
Thanks, I think that you did a fair comparison of the two islands. Since recently moving to Guernsey, it is a beautiful place with calm vibes. On the other hand, I can’t say much for Jersey as I haven’t been there.
We are going to jersey in July and have booked a trip over to guernsey for 2 days and can't wait to see all the sites
Sounds great 👍
Bit of a fixation about the Zoo guys, Guernsey for me every time but then I've never knowingly set foot on Jersey whereas I've visited every other one and love them all.. 🤣

Nice video ! Frenchman here looking forward to visiting my two neighbour islands. Always wondered how Guernsey differed from Jersey. Cheers :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Guernsey is the best. My favourite place ever.
Jersey is like a piece of the South of England was excised and floated to it`s current location. Guernsey is smaller but has a unique `feel`
🇨🇦❤️ perfect…..a video on the Ferry to Jersey and a tour around Jersey would be wonderful to look forward to….❤️Lucy.
Love that idea Lucy. Will look at doing that one 👍
You guys great😊
Which island has more trees? Woodland to walk in ect?
You needed a catagory on historical sites, like neolithic.
Never ask that question in the presence of a true Jerseyman!👍

I'm sure Jersey has it's merits like the ones you mention, but it's Guernsey for me.

Jersey is not bad at all ...
But Just guess which one I prefer !
I like them both.❤
Out of interest how does it feel trying to get off the islands for vacations (Jersey or Guernsey) either by plane or boat (to say UK, Europe or even further)? Which one feels easier to get in and out of?
There are more opinions to fly out of jersey because they have more choice of airlines to choose from.
As a Crapaud, the biggest difference for me is the housing prices 😬
Very true 🙏
Guernsey all way
Yep👍🇬🇬
Jersey haha we whip those Donkeys arse :) Great video Ross as always!
FYI Guernsey’s population currently is 63,463
Guernsey for me
Should’ve mentioned that the cost of living in Jersey is higher than Guernsey and that they have sales tax, which we don’t 😜
How prices compare on Sark & Alderney compared to mainland Guernsey? Thank you!
Has Guernsey or jersey have an Aldi?

Go Donkey’s!
Hi, I understand most people are original from the UK. Are there also people from other parts of Europe? I'm from the Netherlands and thinking about moving.
Hi, we have polish, Latvian, Portuguese and many more here in the island so a mixture of nationality’s here in Guernsey.
Thanks
Hi of the 67,000 in Guernsey I say the majority of Guernsey people are native. In like Jersey. It’s Guernsey my choice without any questions.
Ross: there's no simple answer to this question
Every other Channel Islander: the answer is one word long and ends in 'sey'.
I think you are right Philip😂
Interesting video... Didn't know Guernsey people came to shop in Jersey. Jersey people sometimes go to shop in England because there's not enough choice on island!

Jersey is sunniest place in UK...
What about buy a house in Guernsey our Jersey....its expensive? Hard to get one?
Hi, here is some information for you about buying property in guernsey www.ogier.com/news-and-insights/insights/buying-an-open-market-house-and-living-in-guernsey/#

Yes very true pat😀
Both nice..Guernsey quieter with more retired people.
Yes absolutely 🇬🇬🙏
Guernsey

Jersey is slightly bigger? Jersey is about twice the size.
Is Jersey good for a holiday, lots to do or is it boring? 😴
Vous allez souvent d'une île à l'autre pour des raisons pratiques du genre courses, rendez-vous santé ou autres?
No. Never. There are very few shared institutions and one has very little reason to visit the other
I have been to Guernesey (and Sark) one time, and to Jersey two times. I had marvellous stays in both. I will visit again as I live in Brittany not far from the ferry port. Thank you for your answer.
Jersey is better!!!!!! 🇯🇪
Is this even a question 🤣🤣 🇬🇬🇬🇬🇬🇬🇬🇬🐴🐸
Guernsey people are called donkeys because they used donkeys to carry goods up the steep hill from the harbour.
Maybe the lack of NHS makes people think a little more about their health and take personal responsibility for themselves .......
Hi Ross - I admit I´m biased. But ... St. Helier looks like St. Peter Port bombed out and badly reconstructed. i.e.. awful.
😂😀😂🇬🇬
Are you Guernsey born .
Yes I am
YOU DON'T HAVE A CINEMA⁉️⁉️⁉️ (also Jersey is quite obviously a lot better)
I live in jersey. Guernsey is lovely but to many hills man 😂
Hi, are you still living there? I am moving there in November, I’d like to ask a few questions if you don’t mind
Yes I’m still live here. What do you wish to know
@@nell3789 not even sure what I wanted to ask tbh, any tips you have will be useful
Ngl I thought Guernsey and jersey were the same place
Jersey. UK. 😒
Yep 👍
No. Jersey is not UK, its a self governing crown dependency. Same as Guernsey.
Guernsey has to be one of the dreariest places on Earth !
OMG, get a life. Everything on Guernsey is on the top of the rock. You have to come down into St Peterport, becuz it is at the edge of the quarry.
