Can relate with that, I took IELTS back then and I remember my examiner to be pretty annoying and overall bored, it looked like they didn’t want to be there that day (and honestly I felt the same) but I’m still here alive, kickin’, with a framed IELTS paper onto my bedroom walls. Unfortunately it’s just a matter of luck, you gotta be in the right mood and so is to be the examiner. I think the goal here is actually showing fluency while being the most natural as possible, they don’t really want to talk with somebody whose words has to be get out of their mouths. Another trick is actually trying not to give short answers, you gotta say something more than “Yes I do” and honestly most of the times, filler words and claims that support your thesis are appreciated.

I’m amazed at her ability to come up with answers so quickly. For instance, the question on the advert - she described it so well and in such detail. What if you have the language but not the spontaneous ability to think quickly?
I feel ielts is more of an intelligence exam than English. I am absolutely fluent with English but fumble with ideas formation. Which in turn affects the sentences I want to put forward.
I feel like I'm not as fluent as this girl but I got a 9 in my speaking. Those who're taking the test, please don't let this make you nervous. You will be able to get a great score if you think of your examiner as a friend you're having a normal conversation with. Also, add anecdotes and actual honest opinions that you have during your test, it'll really take the edge off and help establish a connection between you and your examiner.

I’m an Australian living in Hong Kong with English as my first language. I had to take IELTs for an exchange program and I got an 8 for speaking 😂 till this day I still don’t know what went wrong, but there are obvious flaws in the examination system.

I just received my result and got a 8.5 speaking on 29th May exam. 4 years ago I got a disappointing 6.5 for being too structured while speaking, too text-book speaking. This time tbh I’ve got no tips or tricks up my sleeves other than that I literally treated my speaking test like a convo with a new friend. Occasionally I got asked complicated questions, then I’d just blurt out whatever regardless of the factuality of my answer. So I think mostly the fluency would help your overall band
Trust me this test is hard because you have to make up a conversation with a stranger. I once went to an Exam and had to sit an exam with a guy from Vietnam. He told me he failed it 4 times already. We take our knowledge of English for granted

I just received my result and got a 8.5 speaking on 29th May exam. 4 years ago I got a disappointing 6.5 for being too structured while speaking, too text-book speaking. This time tbh I’ve got no tips or tricks up my sleeves other than that I literally treated my speaking test like a convo with a new friend. Occasionally I got asked complicated questions, then I’d just blurt out whatever regardless of the factuality of my answer. So I think mostly the fluency would help your overall band

Trust me this test is hard because you have to make up a conversation with a stranger. I once went to an Exam and had to sit an exam with a guy from Vietnam. He told me he failed it 4 times already. We take our knowledge of English for granted
