The Ioniq is nicer looking and drives a lot better than the Prius. It has more torque and is more secure driving at highway speeds. It has better sound deadening insulation as well. Having said that, the reliability is not as good as the Prius, nor is it's resale value.

    • @aidanl9535

tnga Prius changes the game. a lot more substantial feeling on the highway, and a lot more midrange power due to less weight. having driven both, do not see a reason to go with the Hyundai over the Prius, unless u value the superior infotainment or 6 speed transmission

It's so frustrating that 80% of new vehicles bought in the US are grayscale colors: white, black, silver, and gray. I always buy used cars and I am partial to blue and red, but I also like green and orange cars. It's really hard to find used cars in interesting colors.

Green cars? There was a time when common car models came in 12, 14, 16 or 18 colors. In other words, a section of the car brochure looked like the paint display at the hardware store. The automation of so many aspects of the car industry ought to have created more choices not less.

My husband had one and took a bath on it in resale. It put him in the ER with sciatica. He drove it 120 miles a day and after 2 months he was crippled. It has the horrible seats. He bought a hybrid Camry and had been driving it over a year with no back problems.

I owned a 2020 Hyundai IONIQ HEV Ultimate for about 8 months until it was unfortunaly written off in an accident. In retrospect it's probably one of the best cars I've owned. It had a ton of space, I fit a dishwasher, fridge, and dressers in the hatch at different times. It pretty much drove itself on the highway with HDA. and it had BlueLink for the cold winter and hot summer.
The best part is always got minimum 1,000km (621miles) per tank which would only cost me about $35-$40 CAD to fill. Realistically speaking it would be hard for most drivers or reviewers to argue against buying a hybrid like this IONIQ over a traditional compact sedan like an Elantra, Civic, or Corolla for almost the same price and rates. You would quickly regain the extra $1,000-$2,000 spent on the hybrid in fuel and insurance savings in a year or sooner depending on how much you drive, plus always having the much bigger hatch.

1978 AMC Matador that I owned in the early 80s is my guilty pleasure. That thing was a tank. We received 14 inches of snow back in 1982 and I was able to drive home from work in that snows when my previous cars would have had me stuck in the snow.

My mom has purchased 6 brand new Lexus ES's since 2004! She loves them and will only buy this brand and model. Drives a lot for work and gets rid of them after around 150k with zero problems every time. The only difference is that her 2019 as opposed to all her previous ES's was made in Kentucky and we both noticed the drop in build quality from the start when compared to all others! Doors slam cheaper in the front, plastics squeak when pushed and there have been 3 or 4 recalls that all her 5 previous car never had combined.. Just saying its making her rethink another ES since they are built in KENTUCKY. The RX might be next for her as it's built at least in Canada which historically does a great job. Not hating on American built because that's what we want to purchase but I also will call it like I see it. Come on Lexus, match the Japanese in assembly and build quality attention to detail IN AMERICA!!!

I got my 2017 sonata hybrid for 21k in 2018 brand new, back then the ioniq hybrid is actually selling for more being a smaller, lower equipped, worse ride, lower power car. I just don't know why anyone would buy that. The Sonata hybrid has more room, 5 link rear suspension, and cheaper.

Fiesta ST is my guilty pleasure. A manual, practical, hilarious driving dynamics, including rotating (a little) like a RWD. But wow, is it cheap inside and goofy looking as far as the exterior. Totally would have bought one new if It wasn’t for.the looks. Ditto for the Type R. Ended up with an ND Miata and a Honda Odyssey. So basically, a deconstructed ST, sort of.

Satisfied my guilty pleasure last year: BMW i3 REx
CR's reliability results got me to pull the trigger on an "Orca White/Black" used 2017 model.
Unique drivetrain, carbon polymer body with origins here in Washington, Porsche-esque CofG, Eucalyptus dash, zero range anxiety and a totally functional clean-sheet design.
Absolutely zero issues, and saving $2k per year in fueling (24k miles/yr).
Can't believe how many questions I get about a 7 year old car.

I have a 2020 Avalon limited hybrid and love it for the exact reason you are saying. I would also mention another car which I had debated on which flies under the radar is the VW Arteon. Sadly it is very hard for a taller person to get into comfortably. Old school guilty pleasures would be the Honda Element ( They really need to bring it back !!!) and my old 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix coupe, maybe because it was my first car but something about a coupe with decent space and for the time fun for a 21 year old to drive.

I loved my 1991 Ford Festiva (a Mazda 121, built by Kia and sold by Ford). It was the most basic vehicle possible at the time. It didn't even come with a radio. On the sheet that showed what it came with, they listed 4 tires! I owned it for 10 years and the only thing I had to do was replace the battery and the tires. And only needed to fill up the tank once a month. Amazing gas mileage.

I am with Mike on the Honda Passport. I own a 2019 Passport and it has been a great vehicle for my wife and I who are empty nesters with an active lifestyle. It is a perfect size, 5 seats, enough room to bring camping and other gear, and pulls a 5000lb trailer. There are not many options that check all these boxes that are not a 7 seater which eats up a lot of cargo space that I would rather use

I will NEVER forgive GM for what they did to Saab. NEVER! My guilty pleasure? Not really feeling guilty about it but as far as a pure "Goldilocks" vehicle I'd nominate our 2018 top trim KIA Sorento. Exactly the right size for a midsize SUV. An occasional use 3rd row that spends most of the time folded into the cargo floor but is a godsend on occasions when we have to transport six or seven passengers on a local trip and the alternative is taking two vehicles. Unfortunately, the new Sorento comes only with captain chairs in the second row in all but the cheapest trims that don't have the 2.5L turbo four cylinder engine. Huge mistake that's unusual for KIA. Fortunately, we have only 50K miles on our 2018 model so we'll be holding onto it for the foreseeable future.

Regional auto organizations might control which colors are available. According to one source, only 2 percent of new cars are green. That obviously reflects which colors are considered most desired by consumers. This varies by maker. For decades I drove a forest green Subaru Outback, a color that was so popular in that model that I once braked for a four-way stop corner. There was a green Outback on each of the four roads! FWIW, the one time I drove in California I was surprised by all the green cars there.

Acura/Honda is known for making some of the best engines. Just because Genesis offers more for the money or has a longer warranty doesn’t mean it’s a better built car. Have all of the car manufacturers gone colour-blind? We're told there are 16 million colours - couldn't we explore at least some of them? What about jewel colours (emerald, amethyst, ruby)? What *did* happen to green, or for that matter, yellow, or Chrysler's Plum Crazy? Even Subaru has dropped Sunshine Orange and the desert khaki. So sad that we've become a monotone society.

Sounds like someone took the tires from the warehouse and installed them on the vehicle and spread the cash between the techs and the sales people, basicly stealing them from the company. Seen it happen at the NTB I worked at in my college days. Also, if you have nothing nice to say, save the rest of us your nasty comments.

Despite having such, if you're planning on throwing it after 5 years, take the IONIQ, but if you're after reliability and longevity, go for the corolla hybrid. I know that the corolla hybrid is less stylish and got less features and a trunk instead of a hatchback, but remember that you're buying a car, not a phone. The ioniq has a DCT transmission which isn't promising for maintenance, compared to corolla's e-CVT. If the Ioniq had a e-CVT or at least CVT, then go for it.

The interior of the car is the one thing you shouldn’t be looking at when you’re driving. Unless of course you want to have an accident because you’re distracted by how ugly it is. Come on consumers reports. Grow up

emily should be raving about this hybrid especially now that gas is five dollars per gallon but she has her usual sarcastic attitude and snarky laughter as she criticizes it like she did with the nissan versa which was another car she should have been raving about since it's the cheapest new car in america and the best bang for your buck car hands down including everything standard on the base model minus rims and will work for much of the population especially now a days where cars are forty thousand dollars on average... what a bizarre and terrible and twisted perception of these fantastic cars... maybe she should go work for a baby car seat company bc that's all she seems to care about during these reviews

That awkwardness when it was time for her to talk in depth about a vehicle she had been supposedly extensively driving but barely had anything of substance to say... Wow.

Point of fact many offices and companies have “discovered” workers do need to be at the office and yet they get even more done. With technology, there is very little that needs to happen in physical offices. If you study the current real estate market, sales and leases of business and office properties have fallen off the map. One way a business or a non-profit such as Consumer Reports can save enormous amounts of money is bagging the big brick and mortar office and allowing people to work from home.

My company went remote in 2014. The owners asked us if we were interested in it and everyone was on board and all but three people left the DC area within a year. Saving $15k a month to rent office space meant we could all get higher bonuses and moving to areas with lower cost of living and less traffic was really nice
