I think PHEVs are a really smart choice for Australia and I hope we see more soon. If you have a place to park where you can charge, it seems like a no-brainer. EV most days, use petrol when you want to go far. What's not to like?
What is the speed you can drive with EV mode? Nobody is telling that? Strange. If I tell you about car of course I need to know it if its only 60km/h. Or is it every speed... But. Still anybody doesn't know. But they think 60 because Toyota does and they think that if course if you can they should tell it first because no other car doesn't that
Given Australia's less than convenient EV recharge network a Hybrid is really the only choice here for the foreseeable future if you only need a vehicle as a form of personal transport to avoid inconvenient public transport. Problem with plug-ins is that many people rent and installing charge equipment is not a viable option. The closer one gets to a CBD the greater this issue becomes ironically the same places one really gets the greatest return from these types of vehicles.
Yeah. Old apartment stock near the CBD can make it very hard to recharge overnight. Newer PHEVs, which can be optioned with DC charging capability, eliminate this problem. For example, the Benz A250e can charge at 22kW DC, so it can be charged up quite quickly at DC charging facilities (for example, at the gym that I use).
I wasted way too much time looking for a smoke alarm with low battery in my apartment. Aaaannd then I realized that it is a bird (?) in this video making that sound. 🤦♀️
I bought the HEV ½ year ago. But maybe I should have tried to find a PHEV instead, with the patrol prices right now. I have a 100km drive to work, so the 36-60km on pure battery would be nice. Where I work there is free charging spots. But I guess if I want to change the car now to a PHEV version it will cost a lot of money :(
@@sergiocruz6195 Not really, but you are right used cars are going up in price, but the car you want is also going up in price, so it does not help much, but for people who maybe are old and need to get rid of there car the market is good now :)
The battery has an 8 year warranty so to be honest, out of pocket battery replacement is not a consideration for a new car purchase here - nor is it at all predictable. Battery tech is rapidly decreasing in price, so who can say what a replacement 9kWh battery will cost in the year 2029? I can’t - I don’t have a crystal ball
John, can we get a cost comparison done for this (or base hybrid) vs a i30N line with realistic fuel figures. How much would somone really be saving over ownership, $10k can go a long way for fuel....
Goodness like all car reviews how did we get on before cars where judged by how many cup holders, door bins, soft door trims and such ... all this stuff is just red herring and fluff most people just want to know is this a good reliable fair priced vehicle that they can depend on.
I was looking at this model to purchase however my commute will be 130km round trip each day with no ability to recharge at work, I like the idea of nearly 900km range on full charge and tank however not sure it will be economical for a long drive each day at mostly 100km/h and a full EV might be better as I'd only be paying charging costs.
Hybrid has no much advantage for long distance highway/freeway driving. And EV only cars have no environment benefits in Australia right now because most time people charge their cars overnight at their homes and we use coal/fossil fuels to generate electricity. In fact, they actually make more damage to the environment. But Hybrid is by far the best option for most people in Australia. My next car will definitely be a hybrid, in particular, a Toyota hybrid, for their hybrid design and quality.

Unless a plug-in has an all electric range greater than 30 miles, it's pretty useless. Ideal is about 60 miles. Many of the plugin that are 11 miles like Prius phev is gimmick and not worth the price hike.
Rear seat vent for the cooling inlet for the battery pack. Uses the air-conditioning to keep the batteries cool. Very clever🤓
