Maybe not the best or most technical drummer but certainly one of the most influential ones, he is the reason why many of us got into drums and that is a fact.
sometimes you don't have to be super technical... you just have to find the right tempo/notes to fit with the songs with the band. Lars is the salt and pepper of Metallica!
This is insane! I'd be in heaven in that room. Keep Rockin' hard Lars! Love ya man! Legend! Lars' drumming is incredible! 100% respect! So innovative and for the song. Thank you Lars for all the years of Metal and inspiration 🤘🤘
Yo también pensé que la Tama blanca era una Artstar, pero tengo entendido que es una Granstar, todo un clásico de la marca...es un casco grueso, un híbrido birch/Mahogany...
I'm a Tama customer but not a good one. I bought my 1981 Imperialstar second hand in 1989, and I still happily use it because the 9ply Mahogony shells with the platina finish sound unbelievable. I've done maintenance on the set but it's 98% original and still holds a tune on every single drum top head and bottom. I just added a 14 x 6 Tama Starphonic nickel over brass snare drum to the set. It's absolutely on fire. Thanks for the great times Tama.
Awesome! My first loved drume drummer...That white kit, made me fall in love with Tama...!!! "Imagine if all these drums could talk , and the stories that they would tell you.." Hell Yeahhh!
I've been waiting on tama to release that for roughly 20 years, Lars and that kit was the reason my first Tama was white. I love the other colors but that white kit for me was inspirational along with Lars. I always love percussion but what made me want to actually play drums was the influence of Lars Ulrich, Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, & The Rev
I started playing in 89 because of me, not Lars. My good friend was a Tama guy because of Lars and my first round on his white 9 piece Rockstar DX made me a Tama guy too. For 30 years whenever I hear a sound in my head I can find it in a Tama drum. Truly my favorite.
He could have hopped all over the place in the last 40yrs , going from brand to brand and getting paid for endorsement of each new kit. Its hard to believe he wouldn't have had offers from , DW , Pearl , Mapex. Sonor. Ludwig etc.... Instead he stayed with TAMA...thats very cool , you have to respect the loyalty.
Lars was and is the master of drum sound. His snare sound was always very upfront. The muted punchy bass drums. Heavy cymbals. The cymbals cut, and just die off. How he tuned his snare on the Saint anger album was very different. I still did enjoy the really high sound. The tight tight tuning. He never really had a really dry snare drum. It always popped hard.
My first kit was a cheap white Pearl in 1994. I think it was called Pearl Forum. I put Tama stickers over the Pearl logos and painted the hardware black. Great memories.
As a Tama drummer this was just awesome to watch , im so glad Lars went into this much detail with each of the kits. All the drummers that inspired me growing up my favorite drummers all played TAMA. Lars Ulrich Metallica. David Silveria KoRn and now Eloy Casagrande Slipknot and Mario Duplantier Gojira! just to name a few and look what they accomplished with Tama drums! Tama is eternal!
It was great to see him do this. I miss seeing PinStripe heads on them too! Huge influence growing up. I wanted to be a combo of him and Vinnie Colaiuta. 🤷♂️
That was really cool. I’ve had mixed opinions about Lars throughout my life, but it was awesome to see him geek out a little and become a drum nerd for a little while. 🤘
Gretsch and Yamaha kits are used in the studio a lot, that's not really a secret. I've got a beautiful 96 Starclassic maple that just sings live, but my 00 Starclassic Performer birch set records infinitely better.
I first saw him play on the Master of Puppets when I was 14. As an aspiring drummer, it was quite monumental. I really don't understand the knock on Lars. I saw them this summer in Seattle, and they were all incredible!
I love how they played Fade to Black when Lars talked about their gear getting stolen. James wrote the song because he was gutted over losing their gear but also because the Marshall head that was customized by the guy who did Eddie Van Halen’s amps was stolen. James mother bought this for him right before she died and it broke his heart. Fade to Black was born from it.
Lars is the reason I have two Tama kits. There is something about Tama that makes drumming fun and exciting. My parents bought me a Slingerland kit brand new and it was great but not rock. I always got good comments on both of my Tama kits Congratulations Tama and Lars . 🥁🪖🤘
Hearing that Lars and Neil have spoken together… definitely a foreign sense of coming to America… and all of that! The Justice Grey drums.. before proper lighting and everything I always thought it was like a dark dark blue mixed with grey! Either way! Childhood favorite drumset for sure! 4 racks! 2 kicks!
such a cool video! what a great way to showcase Tama drums throughout the history of Lars and Metallica 🤘🤘 would be awesome to see more videos like this.
Tbh, I was just mildly interested while watching this. Then he walked to to the silver sparkle kit and my palms started to sweat and my heartbeat went up. The holy grail of snare drums is a rare sight!
Dude gets a ton of hate these days, but his mark has been made. Millions took up playing drums because of Lars. Just because others may have had more influence doesn’t mean what Lars contributed means nothing.
Tama is the only reason to play drums. Been playing them for 25 years and I have had a dw kit in the meantime and a pearl kit or two. I just keep going back to Tama.
I first got into Metallica when Justice came out. Listened to it non stop for months. A big part of why I loved it was the drums. A drummer might say the drums are terrible, Lars is terrible. I don’t really care though. I loved it then and still love it now. Music is subjective. It doesn’t matter what someone else thinks, as long as you like it.
@@tamadreaming Name one drummer more influential than Lars? Even myself is not a big fan, it still doesn’t change the fact that how influential he is starting from early 80s.
This guy put sticks in more kids hands than arguably anyone ever. Glad to see people finally giving Lars the respect he deserves 🤘
Ringo would argue with this…but yeah, huge influence on many young drummers.
what about jeffery epstein?
@@shallex5744brilliant😂
@@shallex5744 oh damn 🤣
Nope. Peart.

For me, Mike Portnoy did..
Lars is the man. No Lars, no Metallica. He's not only the drummer, but is the major composer, lyricist and businessman.
He's the entire package.
The teenage version of myself would have watched this 1000x. That said this is my 4th time viewing this today.
This is insane! I'd be in heaven in that room. Keep Rockin' hard Lars! Love ya man! Legend! Lars' drumming is incredible! 100% respect! So innovative and for the song. Thank you Lars for all the years of Metal and inspiration 🤘🤘
I've played exclusively Tama for 3 decades just because of Lars. Huge impact on me as a child. My dream would be a re-re of that White and Black kit.
WOW!!!!!! First the modern drummer video now this!! So nice to hear Lars talk about his kits, the history, and the context. Thanks!
real
Yo también pensé que la Tama blanca era una Artstar, pero tengo entendido que es una Granstar, todo un clásico de la marca...es un casco grueso, un híbrido birch/Mahogany...
Respect for 40 years filling stadiums around the world!!

I’m proud to say he got me into playing back in 1992 with that badass white and black kit. Metallica is life!
Dude is an absolute legend. Haters are jerks.
40 years!! Cheers to Tama and Lars! 🍻
Definitely! Numbers talk...
Awesome!
My first loved drume drummer...That white kit, made me fall in love with Tama...!!!
"Imagine if all these drums could talk , and the stories that they would tell you.."
Hell Yeahhh!
I dont think Tama realizes how many Gen X would buy a reissue of the white Artstar kit. Total missed opportunity.
My thoughts exactly

💯
Saw them on the Monsters Of Rock tour in 1988. The grey and black kit. Was blown away. Lars is incredible, no matter what anyone says.
I started playing in 89 because of me, not Lars. My good friend was a Tama guy because of Lars and my first round on his white 9 piece Rockstar DX made me a Tama guy too. For 30 years whenever I hear a sound in my head I can find it in a Tama drum. Truly my favorite.
Big love to you Lars and Tama for this moment of History !
With all of these kits being iconic by now, Lars should make a combination drumset to represent all the different eras on stage 🤘
If they ever do a farewell tour - he should definitely play every kit on stage
This is part of the History of Rock 🤘🤘🤘🤘
How cool was that to see all that history in one room? Hell yeah! Keep killing it, Lars!
Best what I see today! So cool his original kits to see! Lars is awesome!!!

That I can give him. He's got good taste in drums. 🤣
When I was 15, my Master and justice cassette taught me drums. Thanks, Lars!

I want the grey Justice kit so damn bad!!!!!
You inspired me to play drums and I can point my drum addiction to you thank you
This was amazing! Tama was my first kit I bought myself and 2 more after. I'll always love Tama.
He might not be the best drummer among the rest, but he was the reason I started playing and my inspiration alongside Dave Lombardo.
Complete respect. Very cool to see all the kits on one place.
Him and mike portnoy, the real keys that locked my ears just for tama drum since '10 🙏
6:34 shows how Chris Russio hits his snare.
Your not wrong 😅
Thank you Tama, thank you Lars.
The m72 yellow and black kit is my all time fav❤🥁
Mine too. Never been a giant drumkit fan as i think they look stupid. Lars current set up with two kicks two up, two down is about perfect.
My first kit was a cheap white Pearl in 1994. I think it was called Pearl Forum. I put Tama stickers over the Pearl logos and painted the hardware black. Great memories.
Haha me too on my shitty Pearl Export kit 😂😂
Feel the same way with Pearl as most kids do with Tama, great drums
my all time favorite kit is the grey set up.

man... I was hoping they re-release the black and white kit or that grey and black one... that would have been cool.
Same. My fucking pulse quickened the second I read the vid title. Had my fucking credit card halfway outta my wallet.
Great video!!
Had no idea Neil Peart made this connection. That's an amazing story.
My dream kit would be white with black lugs similar to his old kit, but it’d be jazzy with an 18” bass drum haha
Ol’ Lars looks great, good for him and his Amazing career !
Happy anniversary tama drums from Kyle
the silver sparkle is my favorite
That Black Album kit is where it's at!
The Gretsch bass drums and floor toms he used when back to the rental company. (that's how much he loves Tama)
bring back the white kit!!!

I am 1 of 72 Lars!
Tama is the only reason to play drums. Been playing them for 25 years and I have had a dw kit in the meantime and a pearl kit or two. I just keep going back to Tama.
When he said he had 4, I was like, nope you got 6. Seen them in the truck.
Great video

Sick!
So, it’s actually because of Neil Peart that I bought a Tama kit? Never knew that!
I'm 14 years old using Tama drums inspired by Lars
