My neighbor next door to me is from Bay City, MI and he has to be one of the nicest guys i've ever met in my life. I've always loved vehicles with vinyl tops and to watch this man work with over 40 + years of experience is so gratifying. He has a true talent and takes a ton of pride in his work. Awesome video.
thanks for the video ive taken over my family shop and havent done a vinyl top yet because my father did them and i watched but never got to do one so this video was very heplful and to the point for me thank you
Do you have to remove quarter glass to install top ? I have the same cutlass and doing vinyl top. Great video constantly looking at it before I do mine..
Very good job!! When i removed my vinyl top. Theres was a plastic molding around rear window. I broke it . Do really need it to reinstall vinyl top? Also where you buy the materials?
I have just glued the foam (closed cell) on my 1988 Brougham and it's great but the glue stick quick and does not allow for readjustment. What is the right way to apply the Weldwood contact cement and be able to manage the vinyl top in place before pressing it down? This video doesn't explain that point.
Mark a centerline on the top and Mark centerline on the vehicle glue the top first place the top on the center line. I flip over the top halfway put just a small amount of glue just in the center area. Set your centerline then glue each side separate from there.
An old trick that works when using contact cement to give you time to play around a bit is to place waxed paper sheets between the two surfaces. Contact cement will not stick to waxed paper so you can pull it out in strips one at a time and get you foam straight before pressing it down. Work slowly and in increments that you can handle and you should do alright.
I have a question about removing the aluminum strips across the top and up the B panel. Can you provide assistance with that? Nothing on TH-cam shows the removal of those strips can you talk me through it? I love that blue top on the white with the seams.
@@garylamont898 also Gary do you know if the plastic strips around the back window are available the ones you took the fabric under along the back window. You got skills thanks for the demonstration.
They are on with clips I unclip the side first I push the molding to the side then use a plastic stick to unclip them once the sides are loose I normally pull them straight towards me and slide them off be careful those clips break really easy
If you can’t find them in a junk yard you have to make them I use fiberglass shower board and silicone around the outer edge stick it right to the window I have made many custom tops that lasted for years that way you just have to pad it up a little more and shape it
