I remember watching that video and reading those comments. Looking at how bad that roof was rotted, you can understand why some people were skeptical. But the proof that you knew exactly what you were doing is seeing how it looks today. You nailed it and it's fixed permanently.
Happy Birthday.
Thanks man 👍
Is your shop in Decatur? What is your contact information?
I'm in Decatur too.
@ Edward Walsh
I wouldn’t say permanently but, I will accept fixed on a budget. Any moister that gets in there will eventually be an even bigger headache, especially when you don’t neutralize the rust that was already there.
@@dougj.8288 Did you watch the video? He did neutralize the rust. And the closed cell foam he used is water proof. I seriously doubt moisture can/will ever get in there given the way that he packed it in. There may be other problems in other areas of the roof down the road but I think this particular area will be fine. Would a metal repair or a roof replacement have been better? Sure, if you have the dough.
The man has more talent one handed holding a phone than I ever will. I appreciate the budget approach with premium skill.
Thanks Rob 😂😂
🎉🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPRAYWAY 🍰🍰👍

Happy late bday!
All I can say is... THANK YOU! You make videos for those who may not have a high dollar budget. Professionals are mad because you are showing hacks that not only save thousands of dollars, but allows us to learn new skills at home! Thanks man!!!
Thanks for supporting Joseph
Awesome work as usual. You really show people how to do it them selves. Great job man. Keep it up
Thanks MrG732
Your work speaks for itself. Fantastic repair!! I remember the original video.
Thanks for tuning back in 🤝
People are saying the foam collects water and would rot the car out. What do you think?
@@martinalbert5653 I looked up the foam that he used and kit is waterproof and also repels water. So whoever told you that, do not know what they are talking about.
I pub some foam in a bucket of water. The foam just floated did not seem to take on water. I did not cut it to check if that would make a difference. It may?@@winstonoatsvall8360
This man can repair anything AND show you how its done! 👍👍
Thanks for all the support Matt
Hope you had a good B-Day OG
Repair lol ,more like hidden
@@SprayWayCustoms where you located at bro? Have you look at my car
@@badcommentbot8349 Show us your video if you can do better then 🤡
You're an inspiration for so many people. Keep up the great my brother. I'm 55 years old and had to give up my dream of doing what you do but now I'm hoping in the next couple years I can start doing again what I love. It's been 30 years since I had a small single bay to work out of and boy I miss it. May GOD continue to bless you!
Thanks for all the support Bryan
Never too late bro I’m 24 and I just stumbled across this video and I think I love this stuff maybe you can teach me I’ll buy all the equipment
One problem is that some of us have never tried something, yet we want tell someone else what won't work. We are just repeating what we've heard and seen, but we don't have real world experience. The value of this is in the results and I wish you had even more videos like this proving that there are multiple ways to do things in this car stuff.
Thanks, I really appreciate your support
That video proof never lies. Your work should not be questioned at all. If they didn't know well they now know. 💯💪🏾🔥
Yes indeed. I appreciate you King 👑
Dude after watching your OG video i repaired my leaking and rusted roof on my Mercedes S430. Up until now no rust nor leaks. Bravo to you
Great…thanks for the support…glad I could be help to you
Thanks once again for your detailed procedures with no steps left out, and for being specific about your materials, tools and techniques. After watching so many of your vids, I've been able to overcome my fear of fiberglass;)
Great…thanks for the continued support
Bro I got nothing but respect for you. Only another body repair dude can understand what you do. Real talk ! 💪
Thanks man
I think alot of the doubt the so called professionals (some could of been) had is because they never tried anything like that before. I'm not a professional but I've seen a few people use a similar method just without the foam and it worked fine. It looks amazing and well done on that top. I was more worried about the top because you made it look to easy. I really thought there was alot more to it. I don't know your past painting and fab training but I thought you said you basically learned on your own by trial and error. If thats true thats even more incredible.
Thanks for the support
They are too bookish. Its not always the answer
The main issue is that the car is now structurally compromised 😉
It's like using cardboard to hide a hole in the floor 😱
@@deanosaur808 What are you talking about, cars now a day are made of foam and plastic. Not worth a penny.....!
I just bought an old 71 Dodge. former boogie van that's showing its age with a lot of rust. I am planning on doing body work for the first time with fiberglass. This is the best video I've seen yet. No nonsense, no blah, blah, blah, just straight usefulness. Subscribed.
Yeah, this is the best one
If you can't do the job right then do it at all. Fiberglass and bondo will npt hold up you will have a lot more work when you have to redo it.
@@tonysmith302how will he know if he can do it if he never try?
Spray foams for household uses absorb moisture. Automotive foams are 2 part and repel moisture. That being said, I've used the cheap household foams to fix my own vehicles. I had a 78 Camaro that was completely rusted out. I knew it wasn't gonna be around long, so I used spray foam fiberglass filler to make it look better. People who hadn't seen it before the repair had no idea. I drove it till the frame started giving out then sent it to the Junkyard. If i was doing a repair that i wanted to last, I would use Automotive 2 part foam. There are different types for different applications. There are stiff structural foams. Soft NVH foams. And some in between.
If you're working on your own car. Not trying to sell it. Do what you want. But if you're doing a car to sell. Use the proper products and techniques. If you're doing a customer vehicle. Do what they want or can afford.
Sprayway definitely shows how to get the best results for whatever budget you have. Great video as always
Appreciate the info D.A.L.
It's amazing people don't understand when God created a genius- It's only a few made ....& we're looking at one! For those in the comment section who feel violated and don't trust this man process just sit back & acknowledge what you can do by accomplishing your Goals...if you believe in your work ,it's as simple as that !!! Simplicity
Thanks for the support
Man Spray Away from what I've been watching and learned over the years I think you do excellent work especially for the condition of some of the stuff you school us on. I've watched several of your fiberglass builds and all of them are awesome. Heck if I still had the ability to do it I would in a heart beat. However thanks again for another hit. That's why it's not good to down it until you try it.
Right on…appreciate you
This repair job is 100% legit, in my eyes. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring my car to you for rust repair. Fantastic job!
Keep it up, for realz
Thanks 🙏🏾
Whaaat?
Would you like the underside of your car repaired like this too? 😱
Live dangerously.. on the highway to hell 🤘🤘🤣
Now I see why new cars don't use the vinyl tops anymore. I like the look of a vinyl top but damn that thing sure dose rust.
Yes they does
Some people can’t step out of the mold of how everyone does it, I love doing things differently and getting great results, you da man, happy birthday, great video
So true! Thank you
You a bad boi I'm bout to do same thing to my rocker panel on my excursion
Thanks a lot….let’s get it
Killer work. You can't even tell that it was repaired. I am not surprised that it held up as well as it did.
Appreciate you
Always loved your videos, glad I'm not the only man doin this! hahaha
Appreciate you 😂😂
White vinegar works absolutely awesome for stopping the rest I said I'm doing a 1988 SS build and I've just been using white vinegar and it seems to work absolutely perfect for budget
I agree…thank you
Hey I gotta couple holes in my floor panel, is it ok to fiber glass them???I don’t have a welder
You are the professional ! great way of showing your haters and motivators in a humble way your work speaks for itself. I am so glad your channel is geared for the d.i.y. you go step by step and give us the materials and tools list. Thank you!! i am working on gbody door panels and speaker pods in fiberglass now.
Thanks Danielle, I wish you nothing but the best on your project
Perfect job I’d say and for the money you put into it it’s perfect , there’s always other ways to do stuff but there’s nothing wrong
With this repair at all …also for all the people who questioned it proofs in the pudding still looks like the day he done it 👌 happy birthday brother hope you have a wonderful day 🎂 🍻👍
Thanks man..I appreciate the compliment
I have a 99 Mirage with roof rusting in 15+ areas throughout and I got the spray foam already, rustoleum spray, grinder, strip discs, and just need a couple other items. Just on here looking for a good budget DIY way to repair.
I'm using this video for my project. Thank you!!!
You do a great work and give us diy'ers some hope. The owner of this car has taking great pride in keeping it looking great.
Yes he did. Thank you
I wish you where in jacksonville florida. Id defintly pay you to work on my rusted roof
Your DIY is better than a lot of professional stuff. I'd spend my money with you easily
Much appreciated
Wow! If you came to work in my bodyshop and pulled of them stunts, you’d be down the road faster than could spit your own name….wtf🤦♂️
I’ve noticed that there are a lot of “experts” and “professionals” telling us how long this or that will last, without any study or evidence to back their bill. My money says your fiberglass will go as far as the car will, maybe farther. Happy B-day!
I agree on that one. Thanks
This guy is good at what he does.
Much appreciated
@@SprayWayCustoms I don't even have a project car but I like to see people work on them and I been watching your videos for a while now and you are certified legit at what you do. Keep up the good work.
That is pretty damn good for a budget fix
Thanks 🙏🏾
Ugh what a PITA.
I've had to do similar repairs on my old Mercedes, where water got under the seam sealer and rusted holes. I used Miracle Paint to soak into the fiberglass mat - makes for a one step repair on smaller holes that are out of sight, and don't need to be structural.
Does the vinyl top have any structure to it? Looks like it came out great!
Thanks man. No the vinyl top doesn’t have much structure
Nice video my boi I learned something new good shit 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad to hear that. Thanks

Nah! Anybody who was skeptical about this repair being effective just isn’t smart! Once the rust is gone and the area is kept dry, the metal can’t oxidize. 🤷🏿♂️ Simple stuff. And we all know most body shops ain’t even gone be as thorough as Spray! Most people would have hit the area with some 180 grit on a DA and jammed a whole three pounds of cheap filler in the hole! 😂 Spray the goat! 🫡
Thanks man…some guys just don’t get the concept
Keep up the amazing work sprayway 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks! Will do!
Looks very good after you fixed it.
Thanks Ryan
Incredible work...excellent quality. Wish you were in Ontario canada you would've saved all my cars from the Salt monster lol
Maybe one day! Thanks
My 2 cents...Id use the 30% cleaning vinegar available at lowes or home depot for $20 a gallon. Its 6x stronger than kitchen vinegar. Faster yes, more thorough, probably. GET A RESPIRATOR IF YOU USE IT. Not a dust mask. Cant knock the finished product four years later though.
Thanks for sharing the info
very nice work Sprayway
Thank you brother
Thank you SprayWay for the inspirational videos. Keep em coming. Also, have a great b-day and may you and your family have a Merry Christmas!
Thanks and same to you
HATERS ALWAYS DOUBT. SPRAYWAY U MY HERO ❤💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾SOME FOLKS. JUST LOVE TO DOUBT. KEEP GRINDING FAM.
No doubt! Thanks Shack Diesel
I remember watching this the first time around, just watched the whole thing again... Honestly I didn't think it would last (but didn't comment, I figured that you knew what you were getting into) for 2 reasons:
1- My cousin used spray foam for similar repair on a mustang. Eventually the foam got water logged and the pannel rotted out from behind
2- I grew up in the rust belt (Buffalo), and my experience with rust repair is that unless you manage to get EVERY LITTLE SPECK of rust out it comes back very quickly. Typically that's next to impossible to do and you were working on a bad spot. I'm wondering if going after it with the vinegar is what really made the difference. Typically someone would cut out all the pitted areas and still have problems with it coming back, and even rust reformers/phosphoric acid type products don't give results this good.
Either way it worked, and worked well.
That said, I am curious, why did you bother with the spray foam in the first place? You could have prepped the metal the same way and that fiberglass repair could span an area bigger than those holes successfully and been structurally strong enough. I guess that it might have been marginally easier to lay the fiberglass over the foam, but I doubt that you would have had a problem with that.
I just used the spray foam as a backing but I could’ve did it without it though. I agree 👌Thanks a lot
Good job. Too many arm chair critics who spend too much time watching TV shows instead of picking up tools
Thanks….I agree totally
Cool work ! Really like the vid! This is a very less electrifying way to repair but I politely disagree with the affording to pay a welder. When welding on YT is also DIY.
Harbor freight shopping list
1. The grinder is about $10
2. Flap disc a couple for a pack of 1-2 $5
3. The welder is around $100-120 one spool of .035 wire material is 15 on Amazon or$ 17 (plus there'd be a ton left to practice with and left over.
4. The steel can be bought from home Depot for little to nothing.
The hardest part is shaping it with cardboard. As a replacement template. For the rusted out piece.
Steel will always be stronger over time than the fiberglass but what about if this is left outside? And over time the car bouncing up and down the road and if it has a sound system will slowly sperate it like it did my factory ramcharger rear fiberglassed hatch.
I think this is great in a pinch but not the best for structurally sound. Imagine if this car rolled over which piece do you think would give in first the. Steel or th fiber Glass. Still a really good option just not on the roof steel/lead is still king for roofing on cars
Thanks a lot for tuning in. I agree with you
I picked up a wire feed, what they call a Flux core welder for cheap, under 199.00 a few years ago from Harbor Freight. (UP in Canada or Alaska, its called Princess Auto). I just beleive that welding in a peice of metal then finishing it out, would last longer.
Thanks for watching. I have a couple welders as well
Man!!! This video is an extremely intelligent approach to DIY vehicle body work!!! I believe that the Most High God has endowed you with the
knowledge to do this work, and I am amazed about the manner in which you repurposed the vinegar and the spray adhesive. I had intended to
use liquid steel (no welder either) for my body repair projects, but it is far less cost efficient than your method. Keep in mind that the auto
industry has manufactured cars (Corvettes, etc) that embody complete fiberglass bodies; Obviously, the players haters don't know this fact...
I agree 100 percent
Did you clean the metal after vinegar treatment with water? Or just go to primer?
I cleaned it
Still looks amazing after 4 years 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for the compliment
Yes sir he did great job. I've seen good money to get rust on next year, rust bubbles.
Ived seen the original repair you did.
For the budget you went above and beyond.
Ived learned from watching your work.
You have a great heart my brother.

I think the title of this video should be "How to Work One-Handed Like a Boss!" The fiberglass is a great option, but I'd avoid the spray foam. It absorbs and holds moisture. Since you probably still have a lot of rust behind the repair (you can't get to the other side of that metal, after all), it's asking for trouble later on. Still a beautiful job and holding up well.
Greatly appreciated
I don't know why anybody would have questioned this repair from the beginning. Fiberglass does not rust! That repair will last longer than the rest of the car. 😂😂😂 The technique he used is the technique that I used to repair my fiberglass running board on my van. 6 Wisconsin winter years later. It's still holding. Even after I hit a couple of snow banks. 😂😂
Glad to hear you had success with it as well. Thanks
criticism. Spray foam traps moisture. Thus it cant escape. Meaning over time that repair will degrade and cause problems. The haters exeggerate it lol but its a matter of time. I think you know that. But i also know you do a damn good job! 🙂 so ignore the haters.
Thanks a lot man 🤝
Happy birthday and happy holidays my birthday on the 20th ;) god bless bro I just thought I would plug mine in there to;) lol

Your a solid dude…sharing your craft and obviously your passion. Real world is not all customers have the funds and we would probably starve if we only sought out big money jobs.
Curious how you like urekem primer? I use their paint/clear and sometimes their epoxy primer.
I love all their products. Thanks for watching
How long after applying rust mort can you proceed with applying the body filler ect...
About a couple hours
I used to be completely against this, probably because I got an unpleasant surprise with my 77 lemans. The og vinyl top collected moisture and rusted the bottom of the b pillar. Dude threw bondo on it and the holes jut got bigger. You sir give me hope for the future cause I ain’t got the money for a welding job. Btw how would this do if it was not covered by a top and/or kept in a garage? Thanks for sharing your talent bro.
No problem. Thanks for watching
Talk to em spray 📢📢📢….I’m going thru your vids trying to figure out how to repair my sons floor pan
Check this vid out here fam th-cam.com/video/frKSomokc1o/w-d-xo.html
Pretty good job, only thing I'd do a little different is not use the bondo... would have finished with the fiberglass filler.
Thanks for the tip
Quick question, instead of using the fiberglass strips could I just use long strand fiberglass?
You could
Wow still lookin A1 Gang! Great Job! #SprayWay 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thanks KTK 💪🏾
Nice affordable repair unc! DIY Gang All Day!! 🔥🔥💯👊🏾👍🏾
Yes indeed Nephew
When are we going to see Sprayway weld in patches? The foam provides a structure for the fiberglass like a metal patch. Great solution for down South but not sure if that would work in the rust belt. LOL You could also rivet a metal patch in there too. You're channel is one of my favorites and I have learned a lot watching do your thing.
Thanks Tom 🤝
c pillar like that would not pass inspection. But I guess they wouldn't know unless you did a realy bad job.

My old neighbor fixed the roof on his 66f100 with foil tape and bondo and tractor paint. It lasted 5 winters and always sat outside before it even bubbled or cracked was very surprised!
Thanks for the story 🤝
It’s crazy that GM had the drip rail end into an unfinished area with no way for the water to escape and created that mess under there,a little more thought during the design of the car would have gone a long way.
I repaired the rockers and cab corners on my first C10 when I was 16 years old with spray foam and fiberglass. It worked Well
My skillset at the time didn’t allow me to replace them with new metal.
I agree.. thanks 🙏🏾

HAPPY late birthday bro.. fiberglass will last longer than metal most of the time...what part of Alabama are you located I have a 81 Corvette I need some one to do something with the center console on it prefer to have a console built for it . I've seen some of the videos on ones you have done and am interested in speaking to you about getting it done
Ok then Nick. Thanks
That’s impressive I think the first time I ever seen some one use spray from and fiberglass on a Rust hole was sprayway custom I remember making a comment I would rather cut it out and weld it but you have an inner and outer panel there and you can’t get to the backside of the Weld to clean it up never doubt spray way and happy birthday man 🎉

Feels good proving the haters wrong huh. Love it bro. I did that same thing on the quarter panel of a minivan for a cab company years ago. It still looked great when they retired that van. Good job my man
Right on
Ain’t nobody better!
Thanks
You are 100%right it can and has lasted but it’s just not the right way to do it. The structure of the roof is completely compromised and now if there was ever an accident you are relying on spray foam to save your life
Yep, I’ll take my chances in this than a convertible 👌
The white vinegar dissolving rust I haven't seen anywhere else....no wonder your repair is still good - I repaired a wing and it blew out it 6 months 'cause I coouldn't get all the rust.
Yes, it actually works
Shit man where you located 🫡

Riddle me this all you experts if a fiberglass repair will only last 6 months does that explain why there's no Corvettes that are more than a year old and existence and why is it that the fiberglass hood on my mustang is still there and I've had the car for 4 years common Sense people come on
I know right 😂
OG Sprayway I'm sure I'm speaking for alot of folks when I say thank you my man, you definitely have taught me to keep alot of money in my pocket 💯
Thanks Larry 🤝
I don’t think the nay sayers realize that people repair boats with foam and fiberglass all the time. If that will hold up splashing around in saltwater, it’ll hold up on a fender that gets occasional rain.
100% correct…well said
It's your birthday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAN!!! 🎉
