I’ve realized you’re my comfort watch, when you go awhile without posting I find myself checking every day to see if you’ve posted.
Thank you for sharing yourself, you make my days brighter
I fully agree she does make our days brighter and her videos are relaxing.
Omg BRIANNA!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much omg
I loovvvveee her personality. Who else is on this with me ?
This is so sweet thank you!! 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Once u get to the end and understand what is happening, I'm thinking of ending things is actually a very sad book and it made me cry
I completely agree with you on your thoughts on wanting romantic scenes and scary scenes to be more subtle! I think letting your mind fill in the blanks just hits differently.
I think horror gets worse the more subtle it is because it forces you to realise that your brain just came up with the scenario, that you're at "fault" for the gruesome thought and so suddenly you're involved in the narrative and confronted with your own dark mind.
@@zephyr2266 EXACTLY!!!
I’m so glad you agree!!!
💀🦇 I absolutely love Grady Hendrix. I think his horror is perfectly blended with comedy and heart, that I’m just not able to find elsewhere. His writing is also easily accessible and great for those who want to try out the horror genre and need to dip their toes in to test it out.
This is the best way to describe Hendrix's writing that I've ever read.
Oooo yes couldn’t agree more!
“Monsters don’t scare me. People scare me.” Exactly!
That’s why I loved I’m Thinking of Ending Things. It’s like you’re dreaming and you hear a loud noise and it wakes you up and you’re not sure if the noise was in your dream or in reality, and it’s super unsettling. Plus it was super existential with the conversation she and her partner were having on the way to his house. And I agree with you that horror that’s left up more to the imagination is peak horror and chefs kiss.
Unsettling is such a great way to describe it!
I definitely recommend taking I'm Thinking of Ending Things advice from the book and "re-read" it back to front to see all of the things your missed because the book is littered with clues. I think the quote was something like "it was obvious at the beginning, so start from the end." I read this with my book club and we completely dissected the book page by page to psychological review each clue left. It ends up being an incredibly sad book about life long mental illness and being a victim of abuse. I don't want to give any spoilers in comments but there is tons of details that are so easy to gloss over because of the overt deceptions and super highly recommend going the book again with a highlighter and sticky notes to catch all those details.
Yes!!! Brandon Sanderson is amazing. This book made me fall in love with fantasy.
I agree with you about what you find scary in horror books. I find Gothic, atmospheric, unsettling books much scarier than those that go into vivid, graphic descriptions of the horror.
I felt unsettled and scared just from you describing I’m thinking of ending things because I agree the concept itself personally is a very big fear
I’ve heard people talk about the Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires but never described the way you did it. I’m now “interested” in reading it. Thank you for your reviews!
when ever I'm in a reading slump your vlogs always make me want to read again !!!!! 🤍
Thank you for vlogging your summerween! i feel super similar about horror (i.e. monsters don't scare me, but the unknown & horrible people terrify me, and when something's TOO scary, i don't enjoy it at all) & it's really nice to hear ur POV. I feel like most horror vloggers really enjoy being as scared as possible & find the "mundane" horror blasé, so it's super refreshing to watch you
Okay Lexie you did a recommendations/favorites video a while back, really enjoyed it-I think you need to do another with your skincare/makeup routine bc you are always GLOWING.
Love the vlogs/come book shopping with me style videos 🙌
I agree with you on liking the subtleties of things in romance novels more than being certain details written in depth 🙂
I'm so glad you mentioned the possible triggers in The Southern Book Club...I've been listening to it, but now I don't think I'll be able to finish. I'm thankful for the warning!
Oh good I’m glad I helped then!
The reorganization of the The Little Free Library was a total vibe! So Satisfying, thank you!
I don’t read many spooky books but I just love hearing you chat about books because you can tell how happy they make you. Just good vibes exuding from your channel! 🥰
Okay, I am 100% with you on the fact that things are way more scary the less details they give. Keep me in that intense unknown for as long as possible and I will scare myself filling in the blanks!! Lol 🔪
Can I just say how much I enjoy your videos?!! Just the pure joy you get out of not just the books you’re reading but the atmosphere around them and the food/drinks you pair them with! I’m so glad I came across your channel when I did!
Totally agree with you that it’s the uncomfortable scenarios that make you double guess the things you take for granted that can really creep you out. To this day I hate anything to do with mirrors in horror for that exact reason! 💁🪞💁
The house across the lake scared the shit out of me too lmao. I was not prepared, my heart dropped and I was just like not ready.
Hey, I really love your vlogs, they are my favourite! You are really beautiful and fun to watch ❤️ and this corner that you have created here is so warm and friendly.
Lots of love 💕
I am new here but I am in awe of how well you give commentary about not just the outcome of the plots but what was driving the plot. Hard to explain but I get what you were saying. And love your bookshelves so much!
The audiobook for I'm Thinking of Ending Things was so well narrated 😱
Oh my GOSH the house with a clock in its walls!!! This book was my favourite as a kid, and I’ve never heard anyone else talk about it! I’ve read it so many times, and maybe it’s my nostalgia speaking but I love it every time. I really hope you like it! :):)
I've read all of these books and was so disappointed in all of them ): also, if you want a short PHENOMENAL vampire novella... A Dowry of Blood. truuusttt meee 😍😍
Hi! Thanks so much for doing these vlogs/reviews! I know it takes a lot of work, so thank you!
I’ve noticed I read thrillers/horror really quickly! So satisfying to finish a book! I also like Grady Hendrix. Horrorstor is good, though I couldn’t read it at night lol! 👻💀🎃
I love when you vlog and recommend books all in one video! ☠
I loved “A House with a Clock in its Walls” as a kid! I enjoyed the movie as well 😍
i watched the house with a clock in its walls when it first came out in theatres and really enjoyed it and i had planned to read it but haven't gotten around to it yet. love jack black, if he's on the cover that book should sell at a premium XD
Just came across your channel and omg I’m obsessed already. A bookworm who is this excited for Halloween szn?! Sign me tf up! 😎😅
Love your videos! Also, my favorite line "Put me in Patritia" AHAHAHA, loved it. 🧟♂️
Lol ❤️❤️
🕸 I've recently discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying your videos! Quite a lot of your recs are books I've enjoyed so far. Thanks for another good one!
Love a good deal on books! Haha love how you warn about the grossness of a book, stretching of the prompts definitely count 🦇🎃
I feel the same way about scary books! Whenever everything is over explained, it loses the spook.
So happy to see another video from you ! Love you and Gabby for summerween. Lexi I will pick up Thinking of Ending Things and several more you mentioned , you have inspired me with your insightful reviews, you are awesome. . Btw The Clackity is awesome middle grade ☠️
Oh my gosh, I, Coriander was one of my favourite books as a kid! There's this weird, creepy nursery rhyme in it which still lives in my head rent free 😅 As always loved the vlog and all your thoughts on the spooky books 🐈⬛🎃
Omg YOU LOVED IT TOO?! It’s so creepy but I love it so much hahahaha
Let's take a shot every time Alexandra says "really really" 🤣
Have waited so long for this. Lexi’s videos are so calming!
👻Thanks for the summerween recommendations! However, I don't think I can handle any of those reads. Lol.
The movie for The house with a clock in its wall is a great movie IMO and it's absolutely perfect for Halloween 🦇 it's the right amounts of spooky, touching, intriguing and magical. It should be a Halloween classic
Great video! I totally agree with all you said about the Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires.🔪🎃
I was kind of curious about The Southern Book Club but I think I'll pass after your forewarning cuz I don't like to read about that kinda thing so thank you! I do kinda wanna pick up I'm Thinking About Ending Things cuz that sounds intriguing as well as The House Across The Lake! 🎃👻
I’ve been debating picking up “The House Across The Lake”. Still think I’ll pick it up just to see if I can figure out the ending 😂
Loved this from start to finish
Aw thank you Dolly!
Per this vlog, I read 'I'm thinking of ending things'. And all I can say is WOW. It genuinely scared me and I couldn't give it a rating. 😂 I wanted to rate it low because it was so scary BUT I wanted to rate it high because the writing was so good and it did exactly what it was supposed to do which to scare me. Honestly I loved it! 😍. Love getting recs from your vlogs!! 🥰🥰
The middle grade books you picked up sound so freaking good! I'll have to check them out.
🔪 That lovely red bargain price sticker on the cover of your McKay’s book is from a Scholastic Book Fair. Gotta love a good bargain!
I love that!!
I just love your channel! I’m fairly new here and hope to go back and watch all of your vlogs
I really enjoyed this vlog a lot and I'm glad that you got to read 4,5 books🦇🎃
Great video! I loved that tiny library visit, love tiny libraries. Enjoyed listening to your book reviews. 👍😊
I got way too excited when I saw I, Coriander!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE the movie adaptation of A House with a Clock in its Walls!!!
Omg ok. You are my favorite 🥺 thank you! And i dont connect with IT Ends with Us book either
Yay I love your long videos!! You’re not missing out by donating Woven in Moonlight, that book got so violent and I wasn’t expecting it and I wish I hadn’t read it. It’s so sweet of you to go donate all those really nice copies!💕
Ordered the book bag! Put some more books on my TBR and am very happy 😃 Thanks Lexi!
You can never say no to buying books and whenever I'm in Waterstones, I never leave without buying a book and it would me sad if I do so I leave the bookshop happy that I brought a book 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I missed your videos so much! ❤️ Kept checking back, but hearing you talk about burnout made me feel a bit guilty for doing so haha Your Grady Hendrix marathon reminded me of my own. I read his books in the same order, plus “Horrorstör” (which isn’t bad, but the other two are greater).
I hope to see your autumn videos soon! The spooky intro is already very nostalgic 🔪👻
Absolutely love I, Coriander! I'm the same that I read it so long ago I don't remember anything that happened except that I think the love interest is a captured prince called Tycho.
I hope you are feeling better. 🧡🧡
The warnings are much appreciated. 👍🖤
The daily vologs....hey, the attempt counts, and do what's easier for you. Love your videos! 💚
💚🧡🖤🕸🔪🍪🍦🏖☀️🎃
I read I'm thinking of ending things, I enjoyed it; however I read somewhere that reading it backwards is suggested. Haven't done that yet buts it's on my list of things to do
Brandon Sanderson!!!! The Way of Kings is amazing!
🧛⛓🧛♂️Lexie, thank you for giving a CONTENT WARNING for the Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. I always avoid books with this type of content. Yet, I’ve seen at least 8 to 12 BookTubers reviewed the book and not one of them mentioned such a warning. I’ve been going back and forth about reading this story. Thank you for helping me know it is to be completely avoided.
On the happy side, I may give My Best Friend’s Exorcism a try.
Right, I was shocked to hear that warning! I’ve heard lots of discussion around the way women are portrayed in the book but never what Lexi mentioned here. Wild
Ditto. I'm going to unhaul it and check out the other from my library.
Hated this book for that reason and others. You’re not missing anything in my opinion. This was the first Grady Hendrix book I read and I didn’t want to read anything else by him after it. But I did read My Best Friend’s Exorcism and it’s fantastic!

I’m glad to help friend! ❤️
I despise when stores put stickers on the front of a book! Sometimes they won’t come off. It’s maddening
🪳🔪💉👻 always the best videos! Thanks Lexi for the content warning! ⚠️
A quick heads up for The Way of Kings: the first book that you have moves SUPER slow so you have to push through it. Sanderson does a lot of world building in this book & that's why it moves so slowly. HOWEVER once it gets toward the end it really picks up & then the other books in the series move at a good pace & you are invested! So if you're able to push through the first book it's totally worth it :D
Sunday best = Lexi‘s videos ❤
Hooray! Halfway through Way of Kings myself! :)
I love your videos! I just read “Crumbs”, the graphic novel you pulled out of the shelves at B&N. It’s cute! I would have liked more world building but still enjoyed it.
"Put me in Patricia!" 😂 Love it! I felt the same way haha. I loved that book so much, but some parts were definitely hard to get through like you mentioned. I also loved My Best Friend's Exorcism. I want to reread that one for the spooky season! Plus it will help fill that Stranger Things void. 😆 Great vlog! Loved watching all of your Summerween videos. 🎃
Oooo I might reread it too I loved that book so much!!
I know which Mckays you are at! Love that store. My sister and I were there doing construction and someone had to tell us how to get in. Didn't deter any bookshoppers
🎃🩸💀🦇 Loved your SummerWeen Videos! You always give great book recommendations. I totally read my best friends exorcism and loved it, then lent it to my sister-in-law. Looking forward to whatever you are getting into next! You Rock!
🕸️🎃🕸️Such a good review & warning of Southern Book Club...it's on my TBR😳😬, along with Horrorstor (haven't heard a review of the 2nd one🤷♀️.) I'm Thinking of....the movie adaptation is unsettling too, but haven't read the book. Haven't tried Riley Sager yet, but need to. Glad to hear you are feeling better...stress is real 🫤Thx again for another great vlog❣️📚❣️
Lexi: I like horror now
Me: YESSS!
i always look forward to the summerween vlogs! 🎃🧡
McKays seems like they are ALWAYS busy. I always manage to go when it’s slammed. 😫
I'm so glad you're enjoying horror now! If you're someone who enjoys some atmospheric music while you read, I *highly* recommend checking out some horror movie soundtracks. Even if you don't watch the movies themselves, the scores for horror movies can be absolutely amazing for setting the scene while reading. Plus, there are some amazing vinyl releases out there with stunning colorways that would be great additions to your collections. My personal favorites are A Quiet Place by Marco Beltrami and Bird Box by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. (And check out Mondo and Waxwork for beautiful sountrack vinyl releases!) 🎃
Also, I wish the little libraries in Germany would hold such great books 🥺😩
The audio version of the Ex Hex is great.
TSBCGTSV was sooooo good but yes totally scary for sure! Also the way these women were treated was heartbreaking. I loved it so much but it hurt so bad.
Both the Bone Garden and the John Bellairs books are great! If you enjoy the Bellairs, there are a lot more about Lewis.
I’m not a fan of horror so I won’t be reading any of these but I just have to say how much I love your recommendations. In the last month I’ve read the vanishing half, spinning silver & piranesi. All of them were fantastic and I just have to thank you
The book Asylum is the first in a three part series
I had so much fun reading My Best Friend's Exorcism. I was surprised how gross it was in parts but it was such a fun read. 🎃
🐈⬛🎃🦇
I immediately thought of you when Sabine made that bag, Lexi. I'm so glad that you got it ❤
In terms of those books...the 2 Grady Hendrix books sound SO interesting. I find I'm like you when it comes to reading thrillers. The little things make it scary. I just finished There's Someone In Your House...and there are a lot of those little things...like the furniture is moved around or something that was closed a second ago is open, now. That kind of stuff. For romance, though, I can't stand it when things are "hinted". I live for the steam. LOL.
LOL love that for you!! And hey! I mostly like things hinted at but Neon Gods is the MOST steamy book I’ve ever read and it’s my favorite romance so I totally get it lol
I know this is late for comments, but I just found you this week (and I’m kinda bing watching 😅) Anyway fun fact the house with a clock on the wall was filmed in Newnan GA IN MY ABSOLUTE DREAM HOUSE!!! I drive by it every chance I get 😂
I love bubbles and waffles! You’ll have to let me know where those little libraries are I can’t find them on the map of our town
Thank you for your disclaimers on the Southern bookclubs guide to slaying vampires. I had it in my basket but removed it. Sounds like a great book but I can't handle anything with kids. Verity almost made me throw up so don't think I could handle this one. 😅
🌞 🎃 🔪 as always love your videos! So excited to hear your view on Southern Book Clubs GTSV!
I love McKay's. I keep forgetting y'all have one in Chattanooga too. I'm due for a McKay's run soon.
I'm glad that you ended up really liking Grady Hendrix, unfortunately I really haven't enjoyed any of the books I've read by him (including both books that you read for summerween) but I can tell why so many people like his writing
I literally live at mckays I'm there so often and idk how I've never seen you but id love to meet you! You inspire me to maybe read the southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires but I usually like ghost stories 🤷♀️ but ill try
I need to tell you that you need to read Small Angels. Haha! It's certainly spooky. Great autumn vibes for sure. I will admit that I'm 50% through and so far the suspense feels good. There's a few "ooh... is this going to be too scary?" moments, but so far... nothing that has made me regret reading, especially at night. Haha! It was in this months BOTM selection and I think it's worth it. Loving it so far.
Completely agree on all points about the Grady Hendrix vampire book. The writing was outstanding. There wasn't a chance that I would dnf it. I still felt a complete loathing towards the vampire. I went into the book blind so all the triggers took me off guard. It's a book I would have never read otherwise. When finished I held it up to my husband and said how much I hate it and also how incredible it is at the same time.
THAT IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL
Reading my best friends exorcism and loving it 🎃
I just finished My best friends exorcism and loved it so much! 🎃
I finished My Best Friend’s Exorcism about 2 weeks ago. I really enjoyed it. Except for the exorcism part. But I loved its main theme of friendship conquering all. I’m in the middle of eight different books and I’m having a hard time finishing any of them:(. I think I want to pick up I’m thinking of ending things b/c my favorite book of all time is The Shining, followed by Dune. So I like things with a psychological/introspective bend. So we’ll see. Loved the video. Thanks for the recommendations.
Thank you for the warning on The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying vampires because I have been considering picking it up 🎃🔪
