BRO!!! Thank u for posting this video. Ive been going back & forth over a 120mm base bike & a big travel bike. This just made up my mind for sure. 120mm is plenty enough to have fun with
Muddy trails, slippery conditions, and pouring rain at the park, and you're on a 120mm trail bike with a huge smile on your face. I don't know how you do it. I wouldn't leave the car. 😅 Edit: or the bar! 🍻
@@MarkMatthewsMTB I'm really mind blow by my sq3 I just feel like I can hit everything. I did change the fork travel to 140 but that about it! Such a good hard tail!
Nice vid! I normally ride park on my 120mm fork hardtail because it’s really all I can afford and I try to save money by not renting bikes. I love it though and it still works great
YaBoiJJ awesome! Sometimes that’s the way to go too for getting better. Then you’ll get a downhill bike eventually and everything will be easy to ride fast
Mark Matthews yeah I really hope to try one someday, I’m 12 but my dad likes to make me pay for my own gear to prepare me for when I’m older. I hope I can get as good as you someday
Nice to see even the pros slip out once in a while! Do you know of any taller guys riding the Hawk Hill? I think its actually slightly bigger than the 27.5 hardtail I'm riding now, the Vitus Sentier +
@@MarkMatthewsMTB I also cannot wait till you post the build video. I'm super excited to see the fork you went with! I love the 36 on mine, but interested to see what you got bro!
Awesome videos...I pretty much decided to get a Hawk Hill 2 after I saw you ripping on yours and what that bike is capable of doing. I was planning on upgrading it over time so I was just wondering what mods you recommend for forks and brakes and anything else important ?
Dennis, that's awesome man! I would highly recommend going up to a 140mm fork, it makes the bike handle rough stuff much nicer. and 4 piston brakes like the new Shimano XT's for sure.
Hey Mark, what do you think? is 120mm enough? I am the same size as you and a beginner, looking at the RZ3 in black and silver as my first full suspension, as i want 27.5. But is it enough for a beginner to ride gnarly stuff? or should i go for something else in this price point with more travel?? 150mm? cheers, great video as always
Hey Matt, it really depends on your riding style and type but if you’re more beginner go for less travel. It will help you develop more skills than something with long travel and 29” wheels that smooths everything out.
@@MarkMatthewsMTB thanks Mark! Cheers for the reply! Its also not often i get to see riders on small frames like me! How do you find the 29ers such as the Alpine trail? Thats good advice. I ride stuff like this exact video. A mixture of reds with rock gardens. I want a do it all bike, and want that bike to be a Marin but cant help feel there is a little gap in their product portfolio from a 27.5 RZ to 29 AT. Wish they offered something a little in between like a certain other brand that begins with a T! 😉 👍🏻🤟🏻👍🏻🤟🏻
Equal in quality but serves a different function. A smaller bike will never have the stability or capability to smash through stuff as fast and smooth as something with more travel.... but it's fun and flickable!
i dont know why but your pov footage from this vid was kind of choppy(frame rate wise) for me the rest of the footage was fine imma try on my phone instead of my pc instead to get full experience
@@MarkMatthewsMTB thanks much man! yea its chill youtube kinda gets wonky there, hey still really enjoyed the vid tho! Nice to see u ride machine built trails every so often gotta love the park
Mark Matthews not anything specific, I just feel like you try to explain stuff too much. I understand why because I do the same thing but you kind of repeat yourself too much

Nice bike dude..is your fork really have 120mm travel? What fork is that?
Never been this early! Let’s go! This series is my favorite on TH-cam!
That's epic!! Thanks so much.

Totally! Just run your fork a little longer
Would love to see an episode of just riding different dirt jump spots around where you live
That's a killer idea!
This man can do any jump you literally throw at him
I actually just today rode a bike park with a 120mm hardtail😅 Its a pretty small one but it has lifts and some super gnarly trails!
ha that's sicks man!
same but on an 80mm hardtail

lol we did the bar part too.
@@MarkMatthewsMTB hahaha! Cheers!
Your channel grown so much!
ya it's awesome! thanks for the love
Awesome content, im building some of my own trails, but i dont have much land to work with. Maybe ill do a series on it who knows haha
nice, go for it!
Your POV videos are the best I've ever seen, keep up the good work!
thanks so much!!
You are an absolute beast at biking. I won't be surprised to see your channel blow up.
Thanks so much man.
You have been so fortunate with this build to have the wet weather we've been having.
no kidding!
Love it!!!! Next is mark at the MTB park with his san Quentin 2 !!!! Sickkk
I gotta do that!

thanks!
Lucky you got rain out there!! Sweet video!!
Maybe a little too much rain 😬 haha
what is the sound when ever you jump, is it something with wind? I love your videos
Must be the gopro mic
Unlucky crash bro 😢
Happenes to me all the time😂
Mark:" We got rain! should be fun, lets try the tech trails"
What an animal !
😎🤟🙏
Good job Mark, can't wait to see you ride the stump gap along with the rest of the line, stay safe out there m8
Thanks Darren! 👊
You should take your hawk hill to whistler and do a line
🤔😎
That was epic, the wooden sections made us nervous in the rain!
Me too 😬
I didn’t know that there could be bad weather where mark is from😂
haha its super rainy lately, unusual for this time of year.
Mark Matthews where I am from (England) it’s always raining
@@theogubb5737 Same here except for summer. It's been a wet summer so far.

10:58 the hammering matches the beat haha
lol I was stoked that worked out
It was definitely coming down hard at Washy yesterday, tough for my first day there in a couple years hahaha
Haha it was a wet one
You should use the old wooden lip sides to hold in the dirt
Luv ur vids bro❤️
Thanks so much Dylan!
Mark Matthews no problem
Love how he falls, slams his face on some rocks, and literally just laughs😂😂
lol good times.
Love this video aswell mark great content 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Awesome 😎

Nice very nice slowly slowly improving ok 😃😃😃😃😃😃
His whips are so nice its crazy
Thanks Zane!
Can’t wait to see you send the stump gap!
mega build for the landing is going down tomorrow!
👍🏼 🤙🏽
I'm glad even seasoned pros stack it not just amateurs like me!
hi Mark,
you use suntour auron 130 mm? did you bottom it out? what is your setting? compression? rebound? and the air pressure?
The Durolux 36
Super sick man!
Thanks!
2:35. Anybody else heard the phone notification
Lol yep
Finally!!
Nice to see even the pros slip out once in a while! Do you know of any taller guys riding the Hawk Hill? I think its actually slightly bigger than the 27.5 hardtail I'm riding now, the Vitus Sentier +
I don’t know anyone else on a Hawk hill actually But I’m 5’6” and a small fits perfect
How did you get that confident in the air? I can hit decent size jumps but I can’t do anything while airborne.
repetition... ride ride ride
2:35 I instandly looked at my phone :D
haha me too!
Did you had to put more air in your suspensions to avoid bottomed out?
Yes I run my suspension quite stiff
im going to get the hawk hill 3 im 5"5 what size do u think i would need
I was wondering how long you were going to go without crashing hahaha. Great video as per usual!
Lol thanks!
Lmfao, when the go pro mic got filled with water 😂😂
Just soaked haha
Nice ride Man... wich fork do you have?
Thanks! Suntour auron
I love these marins. I was close to buying the rifty, but I decided on the alpine and I love it! #maringang
Sick stuff! Can’t wait for mine

How to you make it so smooth
sorry guys for the question, but when Mark says 120mm travel, he meant for the back and front suspension ?
Back, 140mm front

he hammers the same time as the music!! 10:58
Lol
Did you ever feel the hawk hill bottom out any at the bike park or did it feel like it couldn’t handle it at all
No but I wasn’t riding as hard as I would on a dh bike
Mark Matthews that’s still riding hard lol but that’s probably harder than I would push it. loving the series btw. Keep it up🤟🏼.
Mark Matthews you should get Marin to
design a dh bike

@@MarkMatthewsMTB hey Mark! Went with the RZ 3 27.5!!
What day were you there?
Yesterday
what fork do you use for this set up?
Durolux 38
@@MarkMatthewsMTB nice, do you recommend that fork for agressive trail and big jumps? I am planning to buy that kind of Fork as well.
what gopro do you use? it gets really laggy
I tried shooting all with the GoPro max vs. hero for this episode and I’m noticing that issue too! Looked good on my end but not so much on TH-cam.
CAn you make it 60 FPS
How would you rate the quality of that smaller bike on those gnarly trails?
Equal in quality but serves a different function. A smaller bike will never have the stability or capability to smash through stuff as fast and smooth as something with more travel.... but it's fun and flickable!
do u have tokens in your suspension?
just on the dirt jump bike
How much fps is this?(not a tech guy) but i feel like the past 3 or so videos are like 10fps
30fps
I'm noticing the same thing. The video seems to stutter a little. Maybe some kind of rendering issue idk🤷🏻
@@brunnerjojo it's annoying, TH-cam compression does suck sometimes.
This is totally normal for me 😅 I ride downhill on my Marin Rift Zone 1
Haha amazing!
2:34 goes to show cellphone service is better the higher you go
The one time Telus actually had service
Nice my bike has 100 but I’m not a very good rider also I just learned how to do decent whips thanks to ur turorial
That’s so sick! Glad I could help.
Wow I saw the crash coming it looked so loose
that corner just fades away on you
Quality
🙏🤟
I can’t be the only one who noticed he swapped up the time lapse music haha
Lol it was time
Now u need a new name for this series.
Covid ain’t over 😋... but I will once the trail is done!
2:34 answer your phone.
Lol
i dont know why but your pov footage from this vid was kind of choppy(frame rate wise) for me the rest of the footage was fine imma try on my phone instead of my pc instead to get full experience
I normally shoot 30 but some clips are 24fps in this video. I think TH-cam has trouble encoding the lower frame
rate.
