Oh, when she said “She’s 11….” and her face crumpled slightly.
It’s soooo hard to think of them nearing the end.
Anyone who adopts older dogs is so strong and commendable. I wish I was that strong of a person, I really really do. I always choose rescues, but try and find a dog that is 5 and under. My last sweet pup who passed a year and a half ago was around the age of 3-4 when I adopted her after she was rescued from a horrific and traumatic situation, and I had ten incredible years with her. It never seems like enough. She was an extension of me. I felt, and still feel, that our souls are entwined together. My soulmate in dog form. I can’t imagine having her for even less time. It would absolutely shatter me even more than her loss already has.

Not a small dog person either….but somehow ended up with a 5# Chi rescue with many health issues, as a result of backyard breeders 🤬 He’s now the light of my life and makes me smile every day with his antics. So much personality in one small package!
speaking as a small dog person, i feel like everyone who says they don't like small dogs is one small dog away from a change of heart. i love dogs of every size, but there's something so especially hilarious and wonderful about having a tiny critter run your whole life. i had a 5 lb yorkiepoo for 15 and a half years and she was the most special little dog i've ever met.
@@sillyd0g 😂 I am one of those people. I drove 25 miles to visit a rescue only to be disappointed by a small MinChi. Luckily, the rescue talked me into taking him home 'just for the weekend" and he never went back 😂 He loved my first dog (and vice versa) and that sealed the deal. He's a bundle of weirdness and joy ❤
This reminds me of my chihuahua that passed a few years ago. It’s amazing how much I still miss her every day. Chihuahuas are often so mistreated and misunderstood.

Chihuahuas have a reputation of being one owner dogs. She picked you to be her human. As tiny and sickly as she has been, you don’t have to explain anything to anybody. Just tell them they can’t pet her. That little High5 with the finger made me smile inside and out. Thank you for giving little Gizzie the big life she deserves.
Also, since they're travelling. Mine will bark at anyone until she gets used to them then she relaxes.
Knew a chihuahua that begged to differ. Original owner died, latched onto my brother but still had freak outs when either my mother or father would come home. Then my brother moved to his wifes grandmas place where she then latched onto her.

Gizzie is a gem. I can understand how people want to give her a pet but just tell them how it is - it makes her nervous. I wish you both the very best in your travels.
I had a 4 lb chihuahua for the best 13 years of my life. The littlest dog was the biggest part of my life. Enjoy her for as long and as much as possible.

My tiny baby girl is 4.5 lbs. I'm fortunate to have found her early, at 2 months. A bit too early but the mother had a large litter and nursing problems so we had to get her early...on Valentines Day! She's 12 now. She's hairless so I had to make clothing for her out of toddlers socks. She is so much a part of me I can't imagine living without her. God help us, I hope its a lobg time until we have to face this horror. Until then, she goes where I go and if I can't take her I don't go. I've invested in lots of roomy comfy purses and hairless cat clothing...and teeth cleaning....and good food. And prayer. So far, so good.
I understand! I have a 1.5 year old mini Schnauzer and she is my world. The only place I go without her is work. And I hate that. On the rare occasion I go somewhere she isn’t “welcome” I’m always eager to get back home to her.
So special, my Chi is my life also. If I can't take her, its a absolute no.
What I love about this is that she is not treated like an accessory to be carried around and kept in a handbag, but is allowed to be a dog and run around and have fun, without being forced into silly dresses, jewelry and nail polish.

When I was young I thought Chihuahuas were little angry rats and I couldn't understand why anyone would want one. Now I have 3 Chihuahua daughters. They are the most hysterical, loyal, loving breed.

My grandmother had a chihuahua named Pepi. Pepi loved my grandmother, only. He liked my granfather, and would follow him when my grandmother was unavailable to follow, while she was bathing, etc. But most of the day, he followed my grandmother from room to room, all day long. Pepi was devoted to her. The five grandchildren, myself included, wanted so much to play with Pepi, but he would have none of it. He would only allow my grandparents to pet him, or to pick him up and hold him. This must be a trait of chihuahua's, total devotion to one or two people, exclusively.

They used to be guard dogs once upon a time for some civilizations! They’re very smart and bond only to their people (usually one person)
A smart animal wouldn’t run in front of speeding cars or bite everyone it sees - especially dogs that are 10x their size then start yelping and crying like a concussed rodent when that dog defends itself

She reminds me so much of Mia, my chihuahua, she was 11 when I adopted her from the animal shelter and we had a wonderful time together. She was very loving and very friendly and I still miss her.

My mom's chihuahua knew bedtime was 9PM. If my mother wasn't ready for bed, Jojo tucked herself in under the covers and pulled the quilt up under her chin, so sweet.

I’m so glad seizure medication works for Gizzie. Our little chihuahua, Petunia, had epilepsy. Meds helped for awhile, and then she started having seizures every few weeks. Then one week last fall they came on with a vengeance. We had to send her to the rainbow bridge because we just couldn’t watch our baby suffer anymore.

My bf’s mother had a dog that died to seizures as well..he was a big boy though, I’ve seen pictures of him but sadly didn’t get the chance to meet him 😢

Each and every dog has their own life experience, their own personality, their own fears.
There are dogs that can happily visit care homes & hospitals & let everyone pet them, to bring the patients/residents comfort, & that's amazing.
But most dogs are one-family (pack) dogs, and are not comfortable with random strangers putting their hands on them...and it's perfectly ok.
If you wouldn't let random strangers pet your child, you shouldn't let random strangers pet your dog.

Gizzie is a wonderful character who converted her loving human, who formerly specialized in big dogs only but rescued a special needs pet! Kudos to the happy pair.
That reminds me of my beloved in-laws, who had a Doberman, then a yellow lab, and finally... a miniature poodle.
They met my dog, a very calm and sweet miniature poodle, and he persuaded them that small dogs could be great. They and their "Rey of sunshine" made each other's lives a joy.
The four of us later went on a canal boat trip together with the two dogs, and it's one of my happiest memories.
What a great video! I rescued a teacup Chihuahua from a puppy mill, she was laden with tapeworms and very malnourished. Today she is 11 years old weighs 5 lb, she is in great health and just like your baby she acts like a puppy with a lot of energy. Animals are truly a blessing. ❤

The easiest thing to say to aggressive people trying to pet her is the truth. She's very protective and trusting of you so she will bite anyone who isn't you.

I have a one person dog 12 pound 15 years old and when people come near, I tell them he bites. Doesn't have too many teeth left, but it still works. Enjoy every minute you have with her!!!
Similarly, I tell people that he isn't always nice.... They usually get the message.

Adorable! It is just the nature of their breed to be an extremely one person dog. Just tell people to not try to pet her because she is very protective of you and you don't want them to get bit. Be polite but firm. If any has had experience with chihuahuas they should know that's how they are.

My brother has a 4 pound chihuahua called Tinker Bell.... She also was having seizures, which is terrifying! I was dog sitting her for a few months, and once I changed her diet and got her doggy cbd the seizures stopped...... And she loved the food..... I think the brand is "just food for dogs"...... That high five action is the cutest thing ever!!! And yes there is something about the smallest ones...... I had an 8 pound one myself, not chihuahua, but small dog.... He was fearless though.... Which was also terrifying.... Miss him so very much.....
I'm with you. My recently deceased Chi was in the beginnings of kidney failure and I tried the "Just Food For Dogs kidney prescription. He atevit at 1st but that didn't last long. I'm glad it's working out for your friends' Chi. It really is good food.

It's incredibly hard, I lost one of my guys, my lil dude Cody, in October of 21....and it's something I won't get over for a really long time if ever.... I hope you are doing well despite the loss...... I liked all the different ways the just food for dogs was willing to work with a customer to get them and their dog exactly the diet they needed. And they truly had great customer service.... I just haven't ordered from them in a few years....

Yep! I have a 11 year old chihuahua that was having seizures too. Give her 2-4mg of CBD in her dinner everyday since 2018 and she hasn’t had a seizure since.
I will never understand why so many people hate on chihuahuas. They have so much spunk and are the most adorable things ever.
I've never seen a Chihuahua this energetic, I've met 3 different Chihuahuas from 2 family members who used to own one and a family friend having one. They were all super calm, so it's adorable just seeing how energetic she is

I am not a dog person, I've always been a cat person. I like dogs but cats have always been my pets. Gizzie seems to have some cat-like traits (the way she sleeps near and on you, that she dislikes being touched by strangers), plus, that high five is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. She's one-of-a-kind! ❤️ 🥰
Chihuahuas are the the most cattish of all the dog breeds, IMO. It's part of why I love them so much.

Once you have a chihuahua you can’t go back. It’s a lifetime and lifestyle change. Before my chihuahuas I only had pitties, now it’s chi’s and pitties. I never imagined in my life I’d ever have a chihuahua. But they are special, especially when you socialize them, man they are just the best.
I've had chihuahuas all my life, they are the best! Currently have 2 and a pitty, they are a hysterical little pack... The chihuahuas definitely rule the house, my poor pitty always gets ganged up on 🤣
