lectures by you are immensely condusive, there was fear on writing tast 2 especially problem - solution led, hope you provide on others as soon as possible. thanks.
Hello! 'Just a Solution' type of essay - what is the structure for it? Should we write about the causes/problems and solutions like you describe or only develop two solutions in two separate main body paragraphs? :)
Hi. I am confused about the sample essay written. The prompt says " what are the causes...?" and the essay gives only one cause of the traffic congestion. How is this? Should the essay discuss 2 causes or 1 cause is enough just like the sample essay? Thank you.
Hi Rosenni, This is a question I’m often asked. I have been told by an ex-examiner that, being such a short essay, it is better to fully develop one problem/cause and solution than trying to fit in two and ending up with one idea missing an explanation or an example because you run out of time. If you are aiming for a score of 8 or 9, I would two include two causes and solutions. Anyone at this level should be able to manage this. Otherwise, one should be fine. I hope this clarifies my view on this issue. Best regards, Jacky
can I use immigration of people to large cities as a possible cause. and as a solution the development of rural areas? and as well thank you very much for your lessons :)
You are welcome. I do teach online but I'm afraid that my classes are fully booked at the moment. The reason I've developed the website and create video lessons is so that I can help more people than I am able to offer individual tutoring to. I hope you find a good teacher to help you and that you find all my other material useful. All the best, Jacky
Thanks so much for your videos , they are really key and explanatory. however, for someone like me aiming for a band 7.5. is this a recommended tutorial to watch to meet my target?
Generally, you’ll be asked to write about both the problem, or cause, and the solution to a specific issue. Sometimes, you will only be required to write about possible solutions. The 3 essay types: • Problem and solution • Cause and solution • Just the solution In each type of essay, you will be giving your opinion about the issue outlined in the question. So, the answer to your question is, yes. I hope this helps. Best regards, Jacky
@@IELTSJacky Does that mean in these 3 types of essays, we don't need to give direct opinion such as 'In my opinion' or 'I believe that' and our opinion will be covered indirectly within the outline statement of an introduction paragraph by providing the cause and solution of the given question(problem)? Is that understanding Correct?
It depends on what the question asks you to do, but generally, yes. Here are two of the questions I use as examples in the lesson: 1. One problem faced by almost every large city is traffic congestion. What do you think the causes are? What solutions can you suggest? 2. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the number of endangered species has increased significantly and we have witnessed more mass extinctions in this period than in any other period of time. State some reasons for this and provide possible solutions. The most important thing is to give a balanced answer. So, if there are two causes, give the same number of solutions for each. In other words, don't give one solution for the first cause and three solutions for the second cause. I hope this helps, Ajay
