Little known factoid: one of the Katamari Damacy composers did the music for Community Pom. Just in case anyone was wondering why Pom's soundtrack is such a bop.
F-Zero and WipEout: the future will have flying cars Extreme G: nah, I think it’ll have some Akira style motorcycles Kinecta: nah man they’ll just put wheels on peoples arms and legs Running High: no no no no no! *EXERCISE*
The polygonal cats in Mainichi look really cute. I wish more developers made more pet owning sims. And wow, Community Pom seems like a great game that should be re-released on Steam. What a gem. Thanks for the video!
The whole BeyBlade segment is just pure gold! "Blades would be flying, kids would be crying." 😂 Also, holy crap, why did Community Pom never get a Western localization?! That would 100% have scratched the Secret of Mana itch that Legends of Mana just didn't quite measure up to. Well, Secret of Mana or Terranigma, maybe. Either way, I am all over that, and really hope there will be a fanslation patch at some point. Running High also looks like something I would totally play, especially '90s nostalgia me! Thanks, Larry Kawaska! Speaking of, I noticed King's Field in the viewer selection wheel and was confused, because I know Ascii released a game called King's Field in Western markets - I had no idea that they skipped the actual first game in the series! I also REALLY want to know what Lord of Monsters on the regular wheel is - I noticed it aaaalmost happened this time around, so maybe soon! Anyway, this has been long-winded, but thank you for this, and keep up the great videos! You are awesome!
Ah thank man, always appreciate you tuning in. I'm really excited to play any of the Kings Field games, I'm a huge souls fan but have yet to try the OG. There's a translation of first Kings Field thankfully, but even with that I know it's going to be a rooouugghh time . Although it is the game where that famous picture of the "mind boggling skeletons" comes from, so it's forever iconic.
@@SeanSeanson Oh yeah, it's definitely going to be a rough time. Even Shadow Tower, which was the last of those games for the PS1 is hard to go back to - I tried a couple of years ago, and... ooof. Still, it's kind of worth it to experience the origins of one of modern gaming's biggest phenomena, right?
My experience with bayblade games was the one for gba and honestly i enjoyed it a good deal. i cant say it was anything special but it at least had a little more input than the ps1 games, as you have control over attacking and blocking. main flaw with it was that battles could last way too long, especially at the end of the game when you were forced into a tourney with tons of back to back battles.
An attempt at translating the contest page: Orange text: "YOUR CAT IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE CONTEST" White text: "- Cats can join the contest from 1 year old - Unwell cats cannot participate - Contest happens once a year. If your cat does not pass the 1st examination in April, it cannot participate in the 2nd examination in July. Same with the 3rd examination in October. If your cat passed the 1st exam, but you forget to join the 2nd, your cat cannot participate in the 3rd." So probably either your cat is not old enough, not healthy enough, or you missed one of the exams. One of my favorite gaming series on TH-cam and a hidden gem for sure! Thanks Sean for your effort, and hope the above helps!
Beyblade: Let it Rip! was released in the 5th of December 2002, while Bakuten Shoot Beyblade 2002: Beybattle Tournament 2 was released at the 1st of August 2002.
I really think you should at least start a playlist where you collect the great and obscure tunes you have found! It would be so dope to chill to that! And it would be neat if you were to mention cool cheats if there are any. Like the baby racer here, they can add some fun. Didn’t expect there to be a pet sim on the PSX. Great find. Community Pom looks amazing. I only ever watched the intro and thought it was a side scroller. Running wild reminds me of hover racing, where you can unlock the developer’s avatar to race the against the Cars. Quality episode.
Thanks man! Ive been noting some of the good music tracks in the background for an idea like that. I was actually working on a little mix, just featuring some PS1 music, but I would like to get something out just featuing music from the games in this series. We'll see... Watch this space 👀
Hell yeah!! I didn't expect to be chosen so early by the wheel tbh. I couldn't agree more with what you said about the music, in fact it was one of the reasons i pick this game. Great content as always man. Community Pom looks really cool too.
Thank you Sean for reminding me of a time when I downloaded Wonderswan Digimon games around the time Tamers was airing and a Beyblade rom from I think GBA. That was definitely the time for me to like crappy games as long as they were based on anime I liked, however I think even during middle school I knew the Beyblade game was trash lol. Also reminding me of my crush on Kai. also cannot wait to hear you talk about Super Robot Wars! I love Gundam and haven't gotten around to playing any SRW entries so what better way to experience it than vicariously through one of my favorite TH-camrs! :D
Yesterday, if you asked me if I'd be interested in a running videogame, I would have said no. What a terrible mistake! And in addition its OST is really dope!
I must say I am so glad you popped on Kim's stream that night I have slowly worked through your stuff and the attention to detail and your love for ps1 soundtracks (I am equally as impressed by your choices) and the amount of work you do deserves more exposure. I also own 2 cats and 1 dog and being woken by any of them at 5 is fine as long as I get a cuddle and my first car knows this and abuses 😂
From my limited understanding of Japanese, "-youbi" is what you say for days of the week (Nichiyoubi, Getsuyoubi, Kayoubi= Sunday, Monday, Tuesday), so 'Mainichi Nekoyoubi' would be a pun that means "Every day is Caturday." What a blissful world that is.
Hey, just fyi, I think Community POM has a full english patch. Not sure if you knew that. This series is really great btw, can see a lot of effort goes into it.

Community pom looks like a blast then i went to see the price on ebay, ermm damn i won't be picking that up unless i budget for it damn it's pricy lol.
So my secret is that I'm actually very bad at graphic design and editing, so I try to make the best looking stuff I can while keeping it VERY simple. So, those intro animations are actually all still images that flow one after another. Almost all my animation are just stills. I find them really handy since you can quickly re-edit them for future videos and its a simple cut and paste job, only takes about 5-10 mins. The best type of program for making them would be photoshop or something similar, but I've personally been using Canva since it's browser based and really really easy to use.
@@SeanSeanson Thanks for the reply, I'm pretty meh at Graphic Design too so reckon I might give that a try. For some reason I expected it to be much more complicated but it seems like a nice workflow you've got there. Also haven't heard of Canva before so that'll be interesting to check out too. :D

The first game is absolutely awful, but the other games make more than up for it. I also thought Running High would end up in the "Must Play" tier, so that surprised me.
Running High is really fun, but if you take away the running gimmick and the great music it would just be a solid mid tier arcade racer. Little more polish and some extra content and it would well on its way to must play. Although that being said if you play games just for the music it is a must must must play.
I had a bad time with Beyblade as a kid. I only discovered it by winning a couple of the DVDs from a kids magazine, and I couldn't tell you anything that happened unlike others that stuck with me. But I was given the PS1 game anyway, and lord, it is absolute trash. Great selection here (except Beyblade) and excellent analysis as always!
I actually used to love Beyblade Metal Fusion (might be showing my age here lol) and I ended up making my own Beyblades out of legos. Good times. Then my dad told me Beyblade we stupid and I haven’t touched it since :/ Also I’m comment #69 LETS GOOOOO
The first PAL Beyblade is a horrible and shameful game and by far one of the worst games I've never played in the PS1. I remember all the marketing done for this game when it was released, there was advertising on TV all the time, clearly they spend all the budget on marketing and none on developing. I was a Beyblade fan at the time, so I finished buying and playing it, I was shocked by the extremly poor gameplay and shitty graphics ! Absolutly zero gameplay, just luck, what a crap game.
