    • @Freshbrood
      @Freshbrood 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was excited but it's freaking impossibly difficult. I cannot beat the very first starter cars to save my life and my already shitty car just keeps losing more parts. I gave up after a week.

    • @frds_skce
      @frds_skce 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Freshbrood Wha- how is it difficult? My guy, i finished the game in a week, collected the top notch engines and parts and got my cars to go as high as 1200hp while having the body of only 750+ KG- that's super light like the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak.
      You should play it again and try to familiarize yourself with the racing maps. And also, there's an option to buy accessories from the Spencer's shop that could boost up your car.
      Just play it, mf

    Translation of Echo Night II had largely stalled/was in hiatus after/when Devil Hacker's Nest was attacked by fAtlus and gone under. When that happened, Tom and Gemini largely lost any means of communication and...I had to contact Tom directly to inform him of Gemini's whereabouts, before they managed to get back together to finish this project/release. So...I take great relief in the fact that I was personally the one who essentially forced the Echo Night II translation project to be completed and released to the public in it's final form, because I just couldn't stand there and do nothing when I knew that the translation was almost-complete (but never released) by the time DHN died. I just can only hope that someday this might also be the case with Marl Oukoku 2 Little Princess+1, as that one was nearly complete as well back in the days, but was never released due to a game-freezing bug in just one mini-game.

    • @brookhaven86

      Then I must thank you. I loved Echo Night when I was a teen and never thought I'd play the sequel. Turns out it's just as good as the original if not better! 😊

    A thing you missed about Tales of Phantasia PSX translation is that there are actually two versions made by two different groups, and they are quite different, since one feels like a translation faithful to the original script and the other feels like a full adaptation work. Quite interesting to be honest

    • @SeanSeanson
      @SeanSeanson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah there's a few games with multiple patches like Tales and Mizzurna Falls, I hadnt really planned to go into the differences of mutli patch games in this video since it was just to highlight what games could be played in English, but I'll likely cover the differences of each patch in a future video, so all the bases are covered :)

    I've been making a Finnish translation of Tail Concerto for the PS1 AND fully dubbed as well.
    The game had quite amount of voice acting, so it actually took me longer to dub it, then to translate the game itself.
    When it's finally done, I could also make a English subtitled version of it for those that want to play it.

    Unbelievably happy that you mentioned Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden here. If you ever want to sink your teeth into ones that are probably easier for you to follow (since Alpha Gaiden is a sidestory/sequel to Alpha 1), you could try SRW J for the GBA (full translation patch is available), Super Robot Wars OGs for the PS2 (Original story using only SRW-original characters, aka no knowledge of mecha anime needed, English patch released this year), or you could try out Super Robot Wars V, Super Robot Wars X, or Super Robot Wars T, all of which are available on PS4 and the Switch, with V and X being available on Steam as well. (These three games are officially released in English, but only in Southeast Asian, so you'd have to either import the PS4/Switch releases or pirate the Steam ones).
    And of course, if the series appeals to you, Super Robot Wars 30 is releasing this October globally on Steam for the first time in the franchise's history.

    • @SeanSeanson
      @SeanSeanson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah thank you for this! It's a series thats always been on my radar but it is VERY difficult to know what's a good jumping-on point for the series.
      I love my portable strategy games so I think I may give some of the Switch games a look. I try to collect physical games if I can anyway, so at least it's no hassle to import the Asia releases :)

    As a huge fan of the PSX, fan translations and obscure and not so obscure Japanese games I have to say I absolutely love your channel. Extremely high quality and enjoyable content.
    For my money, I would absolutely love a completed Front Mission 2 translation. I just recently played through the fan translation and while it was certainly playable it did suck the wind out of my sails a bit to have to hop back on my phone every time I completed a battle to figure out what was going on. Excellent game, though. Wish it had gotten an official localization back in the day.
    And since I love Front Mission in general, a Front Mission Alternative fan translation would be wonderful, too.

    This was a fun overview of the PlayStation's fan translations library! As someone who follows the scene pretty closely, it was nice to see all these projects highlighted in one spot. So thanks for making this. As for your final question: my answer changes all the time but I would love to play a fan translation of the PS1 version of Kamaitachi no Yoru. The game was translated for the iPhone in 2014 as "Banshee's Last Cry" but it is no longer available and its script was heavily altered from the original (changing the setting from 90s Japan to modern day Canada). I missed my chance to play the iPhone version since I didn't have an iOS device at the time and I've heard that the PS1 version is considered the definitive release of the game so it would be awesome if someone made a fan translation with a more faithful script.

    The criticism of Dracula's lines always baffled me. To be fair I'm not a native English speaker but I learnt it as a child and never noticed anything grammarly wrong with it nor it ever sounded nonsensical to me, I always assumed it meant to represent a poetical and philosophical side of the new deeper villain of the PS1 era, but also "what's a man but a miserable pile of secrets" always felt like a great and deep line to me that belonged in some classical poem. Not sure I ever saw "have at you" ever again though.

      Have at you was also used in first Metal Gear Solid by one of the bosses. I think it's the English equivalent of En Guarde.

    To answer your question: Moonlight Syndrome. I believe this was Goichi Suda's last game before he formed Grasshopper Manufacture. From what little I was able to understand through visuals, this seems like a typical Suda 51 trip: strange, but more in-depth that one might think.

      @SeanSeanson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to watch some footage immediately since Suda 51 is involved. Looks really cool, especially liked the game's opening. Has some great music.
      Definitely a good candidate for a future translation.

    Hey, I'm actually playing through FFVII in both Classic and Remakes form as of this typing, and for Classic, I'm playing with the Reunion mod, which not only features QOL fixes and new FFVIII-inspired models, but also comes with a similar fan retranslation to the one featured!

    Still patiently waiting for a fan translation of Yuuyami Doori Tankentai and Kamaitachi no Yoru...
    Yuuyami Doori Tankentai is a 2D semi open-world horror adventure game with the characters represented by digitized actors. It's sort of like the Twilight Syndrome games, and was developed by some of the staff that worked on said games. You play a group of junior high school students who explore their city in order to solve various supernatural mysteries.
    Kamaitachi no Yoru is a cool murder mystery visual novel that takes place at a winter resort, which gradually devolves into increasingly mysterious occurrences depending on what decisions you make.
    1. I think the main problem hampering Yuuyami Doori Tankentai is that it uses handwritten text which is drawn pretty clumsily (since the main characters are still children) and so the text is barely legible to non-native Japanese speakers.
    2. Kamaitachi no Yoru DID get an official translation, but because the literal translation of the title "Night of the Sickle Weasel" might sound silly to western ears, and because a "sickle weasel" might not sound as creepy as it would in Japan, the title was changed to "Banshee's Last Cry." Not only was the title changed, but the setting and the names of the characters were also changed. The resort was moved to either North America or Canada, and because the original game included a lot of photographs of a Japanese ski resort serving as the background images, those photographs were thrown out and replaced with photographs of a US/Canadian ski resort. The names of the characters were also westernized, and the music was reworked. So the actual localized version of the game is pretty much a full on westernized remake that you would expect from a Hollywood studio bringing a Japanese horror franchise to the west and trying to make it apply to western values and storytelling tropes. We still don't have a true translation of the game.

    Great video! Lots to digest here for fans of japanese games.
    One of my picks for new translations would be the Fuuraiki (風雨来記) series, which is basically a virtual travel through Japan on a motorcycle, with visual novel elements. They have real photos and descriptions of the places they go. The latest, Furaiki 4 for PS4/Switch, even has 360 degree video footage where you can manually look around in every direction. It completely wowed me when i saw some footage. It's also Japanese-only.
    But it all started on the PS1 with Hokkaido, then Okinawa for Fuuraiki 2, Fuuraiki 3 (PSVita) goes back to Hokkaido, and Furaiki 4 plays in the rural Gifu prefecture.
    Note: The spelling of the game differs according to source, usually Fuuraiki (vndb) or Furaiki in English, while the literal Japanese transcription should actually have three "u"s in a row! Fuuuraiki, or ふううらいき. (風雨 = fuuu = wind and rain)
    Thankfully, i've been learning Japanese for a while, so i'll definitely try the originals at some point, but it would be much easier and faster in English ^^ though it must be hard to translate, i guess.

      @@SeanSeanson You're welcome, glad to contribute something back ^^
      It should be noted though that the Fuuraiki games are probably not very fun if you don't know Japanese, because it's basically visual novels (with management elements i believe), and descriptions of the places visited in Japanese, so, a lot of text. That's why a translation would be great (=
      (though Furaiki 4 may be fun to try even without Japanese knowledge, just for the 360 degrees video footage through Japan)

      @@SeanSeanson The cool thing is, if you wanted to cheat and do a semi speed/playthrough (because it's massive) the prototype also has some debug cheats left in. Press Select in the inventory screen for $50,000 gold (saves grinding, beat bosses the first time) press Select on Spellbooks to instantly fill them all with recommended spells, hold an item from your inventory and press Circle, Square, L1 or R1 to change it to anything else.
