I imported Gamera 2000 on a whim this year after watching some dumb long TH-cam documentary on the kaiju. Epic buried gem of a game. Really happy to see someone else enjoy it as much as I did.
Trivia for Motor Toon Grandprix: the artist Susumu Matsushita also designed the Famitsu mascot Necky the Fox. (who also appeared in Mario Maker as a mystery mushroom costume). the look of the title screen+box art really gave off that vibe of his design style.
Wow, the wheel has provided BIG time this episode. IS looks amazing and speaks to me as, like you, I'm a huge Rez fan. If I ever get my arse around emulation that might be my first pick. And Gamera 2000 looks special in a Resident Evil voice acting way. Plus who doesnt love a Panzer Dragoon clone? Fantastic episode Sean, look forward to seeing what you're cooking next.
Gamera 2000 was one of the first games I ever emulated. I’ve always loved Gamera since I was very little. When I saw screenshots of this game on tumblr years ago I knew I had to play it. You hit on all the points of why I utterly love this game. The graphics, OST and controls are peak and it was everything I wanted it to be. The OST in particular is in my top game OSTs ever and I revisit it frequently. It’s by a group called Zuntata and I need to seek out their other stuff
ZUNTATA!? Well no wonder it sounds like Darius!😅 But I thought that Zuntata only made music for Taito since they're Taito's in-house band. Any other non-Taito games they've worked on?
Between this series and the obscure ps1 games, I have been inspired to dive down the rabbit hole of legally purchasing all the games and totally not resorting to piracy and emulation.......
iS: Internal Section is a game I'm surprised never came out on PAL Regions; its design, music, aesthetic and gameplay all blend in with Europe's techno and rave scenes, the demoscene, the legacy of Tempest and its ilk... Quite strange, really, even for the late release date it shipped in. It also reminds me a bit of Rez.
Going to order a copy of I.S. now, don't know how I missed this. I have a decent music CD collection so being able to play the game with those is also a big deal to me. Thanks for doing this series, found several games worth playing so far from these.
iS just needs a remaster with some VR and it's good to go. The untextured polygons are such a good look. I wish more PSX games had tried it. I love Zuntata's Gamera soundtrack. Such great composers. Kinda funny it ended up being a Panzer Dragoon clone, considering that Omega Boost was made by the PD designer.
Rez Infinite sold me on VR and its probably still my fav VR title. iS would be a perfect fit. I'm looking forward to inevitably covering Omega Boost at some point, gonna spend way to long talking about the opening 😅
Gamera 2000 is no joke probably my most replayed PS1 games ever (the runtime helps ofcourse), there are actually some slight differences playing the different difficulty modes eg more obstacles, bosses will do attacks you won't see on easy mode etc and family mode is a mode is a 2 players mode, one controls gamera and the other controls the ship if I recall correctly. Also thanks to you I discovered one of my favourite Kaiju films basically has a techno dub, many thanks!
Praise the wheel! Awesome work Sean! 20:10 That... that's really Patrick Harlan. I don't watch much tv, but I remember catching him occasionally doing commentary on news bits over here. And mentioning Omega Boost, damn, that game had such an awesome intro. The cutting edge FMV with live action, the music! PD making Feeder part of my teenage years, gaddamn, the nostalgia washes over me (●'◡'●)
I wasn't prepared for anything that happens from 18:20 onward - I had to put down my coffee mug or else I'd hurt myself with it while laughing at the escalation of crazyness
The Omega Boost hype though. Seriously a FANTASTIC game! Sean Seanson hybrid video, Forgotten Gems but only Polyphony games lol(counting Tourist Trophy)
Praise the wheel \o/ loving the wheel videos, i really enjoy seeing the weirder and obscure side of video game libraries and these are some of the best videos on youtube about it!
GIANT KAIJU PANZER DRAGOON! How am I only learning about Gamera 2000 now?! There is nothing in that description that is not 100% in my wheelhouse! I need to play this as soon as I can... Also, because iS looks so much like Rez, I decided to try finding out more about Positron, the devs... and there is next to nothing out there. People acknowledge its existence, but I cannot find any mention of anyone who worked there, or any games that they made that weren't iS. Also also, Omega Boost appears as more than just a name on the wheel! (the glorious, glorious wheel...)
I had the same thoughts, how could I have possibly missed out on Kaiju Panzer Dragoon this whole time?! Omega Boost is just patiently waiting for its time. It'll happen... wheel or not.
I was worried with the runtime being shorter than your usual video but what a banger of a video. Every game here I’m downloading. Gamera looks freaking wild. I feel like Motor Toon Gran Prix might have made it into must play in an episode with a more dire selection but was bumped out by comparison of the selection lol
Oh man, where has Gamera 2000 been ALL MY LIFE. I knew about the title, always thought it's a shmup and when people told me it isn't, I suddenly wasn't interested anymore. What a wasted opportunity. :O
Man, I love that Killer 7-esque voice modulation on when that dude said "Internal Section" on the title screen. Do they use voice clips modified in that same way whenever you reach a new stage, or phase of a stage as well?
Hope you cover Remote Control Dandy, which recently has an English patch! Also recommend Crisis City, a manic PS1 3rd person shooter with pre-rendered background.
I actually just got the patched version, hoping to try it soon. Might be worth bypassing the wheel and just doing a stand alone on it, seems really cool! I'll check out Crisis City too, looks right up my alley!
@@SeanSeanson Regarding Remote Control Dandy; It's a rather long game, about(50 levels), has a lot of cutscenes and you'll need some time to adapt to the awkward unique control scheme.
iS looks absolutely fantastic and in its basic concept and geometry based visual design reminds me of 15 years old free to play tunnel shooter on PC called Torus Trooper by a Japanese one man developer "studio" who also made a bunch of other free to play games with minimalist visuals.
Tough question! Gamera is an excellent rail shooter, but iS: internal section really is this perfect combination of aesthetic and gameplay, I really think it 's one of the consoles most impressive games. Both are excellent though, two games I'll definately revist in the future.
FYI in case nobody pointed it out, the blonde guy at 18:33 looks a lot like Reuben Langdon, Dante and Ken's VA from dmc and street fighter. I was NOT expecting to see him in this series.
i will never be able to get over how u pronounce anything with a “th” sound. as american it breaks my brain. when u say “third” but it sounds like “turd” i lose it i’m sorry

I have never agreed with a concept as much as Gamera 2000. Praise The Wheel and its faithful acolyte Sean Seanson.
That Manga Entertainment logo on the Gamera movie. Love all their insane 90s anime dubs.
I imported Gamera 2000 on a whim this year after watching some dumb long TH-cam documentary on the kaiju. Epic buried gem of a game. Really happy to see someone else enjoy it as much as I did.
Gamera 2000 seems like an instant classic. Our lives have been lacking till this point. Thank you.
Gamera 2000, I love that game. Owned it back when I owned and ran my own video game retail store. Ah, memories.
Trivia for Motor Toon Grandprix: the artist Susumu Matsushita also designed the Famitsu mascot Necky the Fox. (who also appeared in Mario Maker as a mystery mushroom costume). the look of the title screen+box art really gave off that vibe of his design style.
Years ago when I had to ride the train for hours every day, the Gamera 2000 soundtrack was among the game soundtracks I've listened to dozens of times
Never been a rail shooter guy, but as a Kaiju guy Gamera looks 10/10
Holy crap, Internal Section looks amazing - it's like Tempest 2000 mixed with Rez.
Praise the Wheel for unleashing Gamera 2000 into the world again.
Wow, the wheel has provided BIG time this episode.

Figured you might dig a few the games this episode, we got lucky this time!
Thanks for wathcing man :)
Woah Gamera 2000 looks rad! So many forgotten games out there. Thanks for creating a series that brings more attention to lesser known games.

Gasping at Gamera 2000. Odin's ravens.
1010% confirmed Gamera2000 fan now. Praise the wheel
Been waiting on this one, can't wait to watch. You have been on point with the uploads.
Every time I finish a video, I feel the urge to go straight back in 😅

@@SeanSeanson Well you have me hooked on the series man. Love the aesthetic/music and your review style.
yet again we have a amazing video thanks to you im going to check out all theses games

I love these videos

I just love to watch you youtube channel
Always good to see you pop by! Hope you enjoy :)
Hope to see Ore No Ryouri on the next
Me too! I've only tried a demo of it but I'm looking forward to cutting more vegetables in the future :)
I wonder if Internal Section was an inspiration to REZ tbh.
in your opinion which game did you enjoy more Gamera 2000 or iS: internal section

Gamera is an excellent rail shooter, but iS: internal section really is this perfect combination of aesthetic and gameplay, I really think it 's one of the consoles most impressive games.

hey if it makes people laugh then at least something positive is coming from it :)
A little less intro and little more about the actual games would be cool
