  • In 2009, Marc "Marco" Fiorini played Cardinal Baggia in Ron Howard's Angels & Demons along side Tom Hanks. In this scene, Cardinal Baggia is dumped in the Fountain of the Four Rivers - Piazza Navona and is rescued by Robert Langdon, giving him the answer to the final riddle.
Fiorini did all the underwater work, five nights of work in cold water, with his stunt man, Gary Morgan, standing by.

This is the most impressive scene from the movie I can't forget.
I still remember how glad I felt after seeing people came to help Langdon and also feel it again after rewatched it. Intention of the hero, situation he met, goodness of people and music are definitely perfect together!

Although in the book Langdon was alone and Baggia died. And Langdon figured Castle of The Angels by looking at that dove on the top of the Obelisk.....But this scene is EPIC!

I love this scene. It really shows that there is still good in humanity.
For those of you who don't know, this scene is very different in the book. But, I'm sure fans of the book don't have a problem with this particular change. Fans of the book, if you're upset that this scene was changed from the book, you might need to see a therapist. I mean, I could understand you being upset about the omission of Maximilian Kohler and Vittoria's father, but this?

This scene brings me more than joy. There's no way to describe how I feel. Not even "emotionally orgasmic" comes so much as close to describing it.

It must have been freaky for the strangers at a cafe drinking tea, then you see a cardinal secured to a sophisticated gurney designed to drown a person.

  • @eagleone08

For the entire movie Langdon and the Vatican police struggle to find the cardinals and save them, in a race against time.
    They fail every single time.
And when the last cardinal is about to die and everything seems to be lost, the audience can finally experience a moment of relife for the first time, when random people arrives and help the protagonist, succeding to save at least ONE cardinal.
Also the violin music at 1:52 is very powerful and emotional.
THIS is called good writing and excellent film direction.

You have to be a hero And never a demon this is the point of the movie Its about a heroic Man that tried to save the cardinals but he only managed to save 1

I know most people don't agree, so I'm just anticipating backlash here, but I personally think scenes like this that don't try too hard to build suspense with too much shaky camera and stupidly over-the-top music are much more effective and suspenseful than those that do. Music and camerawork that goes too crazy trying to build up suspense just distracts. Captain Phillips proves this point by having shaky camera for the whole movie and really over-the-top music (except for the ending, the ending's brilliant, but it's not a suspenseful scene, of course). Sure, I thought it was very suspenseful, but it wouldn't be as suspenseful after the millionth viewing like the Da Vinci Code movies are. The Da Vinci Code movies are way better overall and more effective to me because they only have shaky camera when necessary and the music strikes a balance of being calm enough to not distract but tension-filled enough to make you tense up and be on the edge of your seat equally after the billionth viewing. Also, Da Vinci Code movies have a great mystery plot behind the brilliant suspense scenes, while Captain Phillips is all just suspense, but there's not much of a meaning. Hanks is brilliant in both, though, as he is in all of his films.
