Langdon (Tom Hanks) receives the "Diagramma Veritatis" and the church ordains a new Pope.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Angels and Demons re-teams director Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks for the sequel to their international blockbuster adaptation of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code. Although the book Angels and Demons was written before the novel The Da Vinci Code, the movie transpires after the events of the earlier movie. Hanks stars as professor Robert Langdon, the most respected symbologist in the United States, who uses his knowledge in order to decode a symbol on the skin of a murder victim. The clues put him on the trail of an international conspiracy involving the Catholic Church. Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer also star in the Sony Pictures production.

That's my issue with religion it would be easy to dismiss religion as nothing but evil but that's the problem it isn't.
Yes some of the most evil acts in history and prob future and now are committed in the name of various many religions not one religion can claim to be clean.
Yet some of our biggest acts of compassion are carried out by those who believe or by religious orders the monk orders in England for example back in the dark ages were often the closest thing to social and community care.
It's why religion is a mixed bag for me I want it to be dismissed but it also helps provide a lot of moral courage to many

      Matthew 16:18
"Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means 'rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it."
The popes are the apostolic successors of Peter, the rock upon which Christ built His Church. The word "pope" simply comes from a word meaning "father", and it's not even the actual title of the position. The Pope's official title is "Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles (i.e. Peter), Supreme Pontiff (meaning "priest" or "builder of bridges") of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, Servant of the servants of God".

Patrick Miguel M. Andrade The gnostic sects denied the importance of a clerical hierarchy. The Catholic Church certainly did not evolve from the motley Gnostic groups, in fact the Church decried them. Additionally, it should be noted that the lifespan of people in The first century could not have been over 60 and the majority of people were uneducated and could not write. The entire New Testament was originally written in Koine Greek but the apostles and Jews spoke a different language called Aramaic. It is extraordinarily unlikely that the poor illiterate fisherman that make up the apostles could have had the funds required to learn how to write fluent Greek as well as it was done in the NT. The earliest texts are the undisputed Pauline Epistles which would be Thessalonians and corinthians and some others. But the majority of the NT was not written by the name we have ascribed to them or that found on them. For instance, the Gospel of John was not written by the apostle John who was the youngest apostle at year 33 CE, Christ’s death year, because the Gospel was written in the 90s CE. People did not live that long no matter how young he was. The history of the assembling of the Bible, especially the New Testament, is very important in its interpretation.

Although driven by academically knowledge and rationality, you can see it in his eyes that he almost let his own faith to step aside and absorb the words that was told to him by the Camerlengo.

Yet life has afforded me small fleeting moments like the one Robert has above. The moment where you question it all. Only to know it's better left alone.

This was one change that I liked. In the book, all 4 _preferiti_ die, and some other cardinal (mentioned over and over in the book) becomes pope. Which makes sense, but only if you read the book. But in the movie, that would be tricky to do, i think. I like how they saved one of them.

How appropriate that the new Pope, who was a doctor in his life before cardinal, takes the name of Luke. As you are well aware, Luke was a doctor in the early Christian community in Jerusalem and accompanied the apostle Paul on many of his missionary journeys to Asia Minor and Greece. He obviously wrote the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, describing the rapid expansion of Christianity via the hand of Paul through the Roman Empire.
As one historian put it this way: "When Paul and Luke ventured out from Jerusalem, the gospel they were taking with them would travel first by sea and then by roads. For the seas of the Mediterranean lead to the roads of Asia Minor, the roads of Asia Minor led to Greece, the roads of Greece lead to Rome, and the roads of Rome led to the whole world."
