I’ve been watching these videos ever since I found out my 85 year old mother was a victim of a tech scam. They scammed her for $1,200 ! This is the first time I’ve seen the same company that scammed her ... SRI solutions. They had her write a check also ! Thank you for posting these videos, and all that you do to expose them. I share all this I formation with her (and all her elderly friends) so they are aware of how the scammers operate.
Same story here. It happened to my 80 year old mother as well. Fortunately she's too cheap to write anyone a check for anything, so she didn't lose any money. Now she calls me whenever someone call her from "Microsoft" and tells her that her IP address is corrupting their servers. She's still not sure if it's real of fake sometimes, but she's smart enough to call me now just to make sure. I've gotten so sick of hearing these stories I decided to go back to college and get a cyber degree just to see if I can humbly follow in the footsteps of people like Jim Browning and help stop these bastard scammers. I wish someone made an app you can use to melt down the computer of these tools.

I lived in Gurgaon for 6 months a few years ago (I'm british but the company I worked for back then was indian so they had me work at their HQ for a few months) and the amount of ads for these kinds of jobs was insane on the local facebook boards. I did a bit of research posing as a work colleague by altering his name (With permission) and essentially the "call centre" is a company who has paid for leads from the company who own the scam error website, The employees are paid commission based on how many services they can sell and how much they can sell them for. There is no fixed price list, just how much they think they can scam from you. I reported 2 companies running these centers to the police (Surprisingly the police in Gurgaon are very co-operative considering people like Microsoft and IBM have huge development campuses there and want to keep them happy) and one quite famously got shut down. If i can find the news story i'll try and share it :)
Well the police themselves make dirt. It would be beyond easy to bribe them and I guarantee it happens. To tell me otherwise is to say a cop that's not being paid by Microsoft directly would not take a bribe from a call center and I don't believe that would ever be the case. That's not to say there aren't those protecting the interests of big tech but I'd bet it's heavily in the corrupt area.

Fun fact : Yesterday I was uninstalling Windows from my computer to replace it with a Linux distro. During the Windows wiping process a "Microsoft Support Employee" named Tom Wilson called me that my Windows is in a critical state. Damn, he wasn't wrong for once
Lol. I just did the same. Windows is such garbage. You don't own the software you've paid for, because you cannot change Group Policy as a Windows 10 Home user. I'm sure it's worse on Windows 11. Using Linux I've been able to do every single thing I could do on Windows. Hopefully more people will transition to Linux. I've never heard of Linux scammers. Maybe they exist
On the other hand, scams can be all about timing. Once, I was having trouble with Windows (a random error I'd never seen before, something to do with my Microsoft licence), and the day I was trying to fix it, I got a call from an Indian scammer, pretending to be from Microsoft, asking me about my Windows licence problem. I believed it, but, I had a friend over when she called, and she was so pushy that I hung up. That's how they get lots of people I imagine. Throw enough mud and some will stick basically.
So I got a call from this dude named “Brian”, he said I had “problems” with my computer. Couldn’t have called at a more convenient time after my computer just broke
That happened to me 3 years ago. My Windows computer had gone under in a flood so I didn't have it anymore. I had an old laptop that was running Linux and when I told him this, he tried to say he was Mac tech support too. I kept telling him I had Linux but he seemed to think Linux was Mac. I got bored and hung up on him.
Ryan Rice so I had it in my book bag and somehow I tripped with a crack in the ground and with my own stupidity, forgetting that my backpack was slightly unzipped, the laptop fell forward. The bottom has a lot of little dents and scratches. I tried turning it on, plugging it in for a while, no luck.
even more amazing due to the zero attempts made to emulate the MICR characters (They're the funky "1960's sci-fi" numbers at the bottom of the check, for you youngsters) - anyone familiar with taking checks should have spotted that immediately :)
“We have not taken any payment from you, you are lying” I was REALLLLY hoping Jim would have said something like, “Actually you’re right, it was a fake cheque I gave you and you idiots fell for it.”
You’re a genuine sweetheart. Thanks for looking out for the vulnerable in such an advanced and entertaining way. Never change. I will be looking you up on patreon.
When I get those kind of calls I act really slow, I get them to talk super slow and repeat themselves while my phone sits next to my keyboard on speaker while I work (which I do remotely, always did). I usually bait them a bit, agree to buy their product or whatever it may be and then insist I pay in cash, that I dont have a bank account or debit card or checks but I have a lot of cash and will gladly send it via post ... and it ranges from there from them trying to give their own home address and fuck over their "company" or outright hanging up after I insist its the only way I can pay, but Ive gotten some weird addresses from them, and even had one call back when I hadnt sent the cash a couple weeks later.
Oh lord I can't tell you how many times I get the whole, "Your credit card is expiring!" yeah..I don't have a credit card you dip shits. Or the, "You brother is in jail and needs to be bailed out!" Keep up the good work Jim, I love your videos. Scammers, when backed into a corner, are very quick to point the finger and accuse the scambaiter of the very things that they have been doing. For example, the scammer was very quick to call you a liar when he himself had perpetrated many lies himself. Others call the scambaiters scammers. They spend their whole life telling lies that the truth gets very blurry. I have seen many times the scammer either putting a syskey on a computer or wiping the files in front of the scambaiter and they will outright deny doing it.
Did you hear that the new update of windows 10 will be without syskey. I wonder what they will turn to now to ransom of computers? Maybe turn to simple ransomware?
I cringe when I see scambaiters give away their secrets to scammers. A year ago, scammers had no idea what a VM was, now the better companies teach the "technicians" how to spot a VM (hence the need to make a stealthy VM). They are definitely changing their tactics to combat the influx of scambaiters recently. Those who give the scammers their secrets to scambaiting are only making it harder for themselves and the community.
I love how calm and collected Jim is! No matter how much the scammers swear/ yell, he's always chill and has nothing but the facts! Love the vids, thank you for all you do, Jim :)

Reminds me of a telephone sales/spammer call I had years ago. I didn't go the porn route, but took control by telling them I had puppies for sale...every time they tried to go into the spiel. 'I got puppies for sale. You want a puppy? Come-on surely you want a puppy, every one loves puppies. Help me out here, I need to sell these puppies...etc' Over and over...then suddenly no more phone call. LOL But I really like the porn approach...you can go the fetish route, or make it a personal proposition...LOL.

They are British pretending to be Indian pretending to be British pretending to be Indian pretending to be British. (I can't remember where I heard that gag from)
icydec Most tech support scammers are paid on commission and it's a decently paying job compared to the per capita of India. It's mainly how a few people make good money and avoid a life like the impoverished north. India, particularly the south, are also becoming more well versed in software. Therefore it is easier to learn how to run technology scams. Demoralized, poor, desperate citizen is given a job to scam that pays well. They'll most likely take it.
India is has been undergoing a major boom in administrative business / information technology over the last decade or two. Many international companies have increased the outsourcing of IT jobs to developing countries, no doubt so they can profit a lot more. Great for India for it's development, obviously not so great if you used to work in admin for a company that has decided to reduce staff numbers and move them abroad. I have noted some of the scam calls have distinct south african voices, although the majority may be where IT is growing the most. Some scams could even be within legit businesses if there is a lack of supervision, regardless of country
The fake check was less janky than their attempt at computer security. At least change the desktop image to a padlock so it feels like something was done.

Some how I don't believe you
Awww poor baby. It makes me so sad that this happens non stop to such innocent people.
That's so sad. I get so furious when they do this to the elderly. Take good care of your mom.
my sis was scammed back in 2012. they told her won a house and a big sum of money (i dont remember how much) on Avião do Faustão (it's brazilian TV show) and wanted her to buy some random stuff on market and send them the bar code and the bill code.
they never gave her anything

Can any Indian explain that? Why so aggressive?
It's a consistent behaviour that as a Westerner I would be surprised at.
@@oldmanc2 It's a bullies tactic. If they can bully you through force to agree with them, they can continue their scam. It's like robbing someone at gun point or with aggression, but over the phone. It works on people who avoid conflict and try to be nice. They feel bad for making the scammer angry and try to rectify the situation. That's why they do it.

I'm quite interested in this story. If you manage to find an article about it, can you send it to me?
that just screams mlm to me for some reason.
Good work sir.

Keep up the good work Jim, I love your videos.

Most tech support scammers are paid on commission and it's a decently paying job compared to the per capita of India.
