- Hi there! I've passed one year of making collages! Today I wanted to share every collage I've made in the past year and we can see if I've improved or if my style has changed. Such a busy year of art!

Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!

I am SO inspired by your work! Extremely fun and surprising. For some of your earlier works where the paper is wavy... I have found that if you turn it over on an ironing board, spritz it with water and iron it, presto-chango, the waves disappear.

Cool pieces. Love them all. =) One of my favourites is the one with the Dinosaurs with buttercup flowers around their necks.

Loved this video and your collages. I do have a comment about framing collages. I think you should use a mat like you would do if framing art so that the collage does not touch the glass. Temperature changes could make your collage stick to the glass and make it impossible to remove without damaging it should you want to take it out or put it in a different frame.

Wow, I love these. This popped up randomly but love the idea of getting books at Goodwill/thrifting.
Love your work - very inspiring. You mentioned several times that you used the “wrong” kind of paper as the backing for your collage. What do you use now/recommend? And do you just use glue stick for everything? Thanks!

Animal reconsructions. All the trios. You call them silly. I call then absolutely sublime. Your mind has just the right amount of twist. You make it look easy but it's not. It takes an imagination like yours. Bravo!

Do you fussy cut all the individual pieces such as all the "individual bees" with the rocket? Or the "tree" with the blue whale? Just wondering how much of the collages are fussy cut. Thanks.
I know this is from a year ago, but I just found you!! I have been fussy cutting images for YEARS and I’ve made a few collages, but I really need to use the stash I have!! I was watching this and I thought that I would start again but this time Digital too!! I decided that it would be easier as I can make choices and still have the originals to make something else with too!! Too cool!! And your work was extremely inspirational!!!

I've seen most of these. I'll have to look for your other videos. What art were you doing before this year.
I am a graphic designer during the day so I have an art background and a really good understanding of composition. I could make digital collages but I much prefer to work with scissors and glue!

I was watching video's about trash picking and dumpster diving. So I've got no idea how this video came up in my list of video's to watch. But I am so glad it did! I giggled with you during the video (I'm intrigued to watch how your mind works) and it gave me so much inspiration. I've never made my collages in this surreal style and I love it! Esepcially the one with the dinosaurus with the blue flower necklace and the yellow collars. 😍😍
