Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!
Want to try creating your own? Just grab a magazine, scissors, and a glue stick!

Hi Rosie! I've only recently discovered your channel and I just wanted to share that I love how you share your process, and how open you are with sharing work that you are proud of AND work that you think could be improved. It's a difficult thing for many artists to do and it's so refreshing to see someone embrace all parts of their art and creative process ❤️

Thank you so so much for the kind words! I love sharing my process and my creations and every piece is a learning opportunity for the next one. As long as you're having fun I would call that a success :)

My fav is #14. I love the complexity. I remember as a little kid staring at my sister’s Sargent Pepper Beatles album forever and being fascinated by all the nuances, or as a kid, the many different images meshing together. Also love, love, love the dolls, so creepy cool.

I must say all of your collages make me smile. I guess with the ones down on the list you could put them on a really big canvas. Make a collage of collages. Looking forward to more of your super fun art. Thanks for giving us so many smiles.

    Hi Rosie!
I love your art-your style, enthusiasm, self critic, fostering of growth, single mindedness & staying true to your ‘kind of art’...
I have a few ideas to consider. 1.Options in size and color of your substrate [tall black, tan or grey rectangle for the giraffe bride which allows you to use the neck & for other subjects that get rejected because they are too big]. The nature of magazines and books used as your medium calls for larger substrates
2.Use of colored mediums (markers, colored pencils, paints, oil pastels, rub ‘n buff or similar products, adult crayons, inks, etc.) in a post-completion phase [to strengthen the pieces that need more color or better definition of the subject],
    3. Use of images with a matte surface or colored copies or matte medium to remove the glossy finish.
Consider changing the way you describe your less successful pieces the ones that ‘make no sense’. The point and fun of all your work is the absurdity of it., so in a sense none of your pieces make sense, ie giraffe in a wedding dress. All your work has a clear point or idea. The less successful pieces have no focus or clear point.
Your work is amazing. It makes you and all those who view it laugh and happy. Quite a mission statement!
I hope these comments come across as my honest opinion and viewed in a positive sense as that is my intention. I’m not intending to be cruel or pass judgements in any way. (I’m not a troll.) I love your work and look forward to each new video!! It’s a dose of happiness and laughter to help combat the blues.
    Fondly,
    🐝 🤗

Since my son always wears Van shoes, I liked your #24 just as a play on words (whether it's on one's wedding day or not). I might have to "borrow" (steal) your idea for my next homemade birthday card for him (with the words: "Thought I'd get you a new pair of Vans for your birthday!") Love your channel and your enthusiasm.

I actually loved some of the ones that you thought were too simple or "off a little bit" in scale, such as #37! Numbers 33, 26, 19, 17, 13, 9, 8 and 3 are also among my personal favorites. Thanks for the wrap-up video, as it was really fun to catch up on the pieces that I missed during the year!! Best wishes for an art-filled 2023.

Love that you made a recap video for 2022. Also love that you made it a point to say that certain pieces simply make you happy to look at! That’s the entire reason for making art. Doesn’t matter if anyone else loves it! However I enjoy seeing every one of your collages especially as they are being created. My number one may be the house with the yellow flowers with the porch people-simple yet elegant!!!

  • @raisavaz

    Hey!
For number 45 you could put a picture of a bottle opener or a spanner in the claws of the other dinosaur as if to show that one dino opened it but the other caught the flying lid. It could then be made to look like a 'fight for the last bottle' or 'teamwork for a bottle'. Also, instead froth coming out of the bottle clouds could be added.
For number 35 maybe if you had added the girafffe's neck and head to the dress it would have looked more 'propotionate' - considering the circumstances. And in that case what has held you back is the size of the paper/page you had to work within.

You should enjoy what you are creating and have fun, you always seem to do that... Here's to 2023 hope it's a good one for you Happy New Year Rosie 🥂🎊🎉💖
