  • This is a TBS Discovery & NAZA Lite build using the Turnigy 9XR. I'm doing this configuration for Solider53Flyer. He wanted to use the Turnigy 9XR 3 position switch so I've been figuring out how to do it. From what I understand the 9XR uses a derivative of the er9x firmware. I wanted to get familiar with er9x because I'm about to mod my 9X with the SmartieParts board and an er9x firmware load. So far I've been impressed with how robust the firmware is....after I've learned how to use it. If you have any suggestions for improving this configuration then I'm all ears. Thanks for watching!

    I have 9X with ER software so I done it not exactly the same but your manual was clear enought to do it right.
    So thank you for your manual.

    The 3 position switch setting on the 9XR PRO must be the worst, unnecessarily complicated way to do it ever! Thank you for showing us how its done because i was about to start pulling my hair out ;D

    Nice configuration vid Dennis! I'm thinking these concepts should translate well to the Taranis config for Naza. I'm just now beginning to get a feel for Opentx and this vid was essential to getting a basic config to work for my Taranis. Thx again!

    great stuff Dennis! Thank you very much for all you do for the RC community. Super helpful videos. have you had any experience with upgrading the firmware on 9xr radios? Also, any experience with the Naz. light to V2 firmware upgrade?

      +Peter Schultze Thank you for the feedback. I have not done any 9XR firmware upgrade. I originally upgraded my 9X to er9x, but nothing other than that. I haven't done the Naza v2 light upgrade but have seen this going around: naza-upgrade.com/ Let us know what you come up with.

      Love my 9xr. Just took time to learn and your videos! GPS attitude really very nice! light to v2 upgrade painful but result is amazing. Did it on Windows 10 with firewall and antiviral stuff off. Run as administrator. X2. Had to research drivers to even get machine to see Naza light.

      NAZA Enhanced Failsafe RTL After Signal Loss With FrSky Module
      I realize it's for a 9X, but the real magic is with the FrSky receiver. I remember my original 9X receiver couldn't do this, but perhaps the 9XR receiver can.

    Yeah Dennis Baldwin the 9XR has the derivative software turnigy9X, but the er9X software is much much better, I flashed mine the Day I got it, that and coupled to FrSky Module and Df8R + RX and you have an awesome system with a Failsafe that actually works perfect too :-)

    I just got my Turnigy 9XR (stock firmware) and the D8R-II Plus, thanks to your fantastic and easy to follow tutorial I have my Naza V2 setup properly. Whoever, in case that you need to do the "Naza dance" how can you achieve that?
    Is there a way to configure a switch to get from Atti to GPS? It was easy for me to setup on a DXi6 but I'm lost with the 9Xr.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know. The 9XR is a bit challenging but since runs a version of OpenTX it's not too crazy to do. Have you tried going through the steps in the video but using different offset values? It should be pretty easy to modify so you can get in NAZA dance mode :) If you continue to have problems please check out www.garagepilots.com and post over there. Thanks!

    • @regzgz
      @regzgz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dennis, actually setting up the RX9 the way you did it, you can get the "Naza Dance" by switching 3 to 4 times from GPS to Atti mode, found that by playing around with the RX9 :)

    Hey Dennis, thank you so much for this video, I've learnt more from this than all the other I saw. However, I do have some questions:
    1, How does it come that you select the mode with changing the weight?
    2, Is there an option to set the IOC to one of the other swithes? As I see, those are 2position swithes, so how to set three to them? (home lock, course lock and the normal)
    4, when you switched to failsafe mode, it did not do anything. Is it because RTH was not yet set, or because you did not have a home set?
    Thanks again, and if anybody can reply that is certainly cool too :)

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      paland4 Thanks so much for the feedback. Here are some quick responses. If you want to get more help I recommend checking out www.garagepilots.com. 1. Changing the weight essentially changes the signal value coming out of the transmitter. I've done the same using offsets before. 2. I'm not entirely sure. I have the Taranis now and it's easy to do but what I'd recommend is checking out the OpenTX documentation and seeing if there's a solution for the 9XR. 3. When I switched to failsafe I was demonstrating that the NAZA recognized failsafe mode with the quick flashing orange LED. It won't actually do anything when it's sitting on the bench, unarmed, without a GPS fix. Hope this helps.

    Hi, great video.
    Can I ask a question on a completely diff issue?
    my f550 set up is flying for less than 1 min??? I don't know why nor can I figure this out as the same equip worked perfectly well on the original phantom that 4 of the motors, esc came from (now using a brand new naza v2 and gps) added two new motors and phantom 1 esc.
    Its set up my f550 on 3cell and am using the phantom motors and ph2 props which are the same as those used on the f550 kit.
    It fly's and with plenty of power for about 20 sec then it will not maintain hover, the craft is constantly trying to yaw to the right (spin right) all be it quite slowly and any input control corrections are overlie responsive?
    I've used the phantom 2 controller on 2.4ghz on this craft as well as the now 9XR on 433mhz and the craft behaves the same.
    Basically I've taken my v3 phantom 1 and converted it to work on the Hex f550 adding 2motors ans ESCs and a new v2 nasa as the ph1 v2 naza's gps failed. last set up point, I have not added the combined compass GPS on the umbrella stand yet, but surely without these the craft should still behave as in atti mode???
    A shorter side question, what is manual mode and what does it do? I cant find info on this.
    All and any ideas, thoughts and suggestions are very welcome.
    Regards
    Chris.

      Armstrong Skyview I would do a NAZA reset to see if you can start from scratch. Also, make sure your quad is level when you power up and arm. The default gains shouldn't be too responsive for a F550 setup. To answer your question about flying without GPS yes you should definitely be able to do this. I flew my first NAZA for about a year before I purchased a GPS/compass. It flies incredibly well in atti mode. If you continue to have problems check out www.garagepilots.com and post in the forums. Hopefully we can help you out. Good luck!

    Hi and Thank you very much for this video. Helped me a lot!
    I am wondering about this IOC unit. I can't figure this. I can see that it is on the X2 (7th channel) but how do i make it a part of the 3 switch mode? Please help :)

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem. I don't know how to get this to work with the Turnigy 9X but can probably get it working with the Taranis. I realize that doesn't help much but I'll look into a way to do this on the T9X. Thanks for the comment.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I wasn't aware of the difference but perhaps it's a firmware version issue? Or maybe it's something to do with what flight mode you're in.

      I wish I still had my 9XR so I can help you out. It really sounds like your endpoints haven't been configured on your switch or perhaps you have linked the switch to the right channel (U port) on NAZA. If that doesn't work perhaps someone on the channel can chime in and help out. Thanks for the question.

    Could you do a video of how to setup the 9xr with apm 2.6 please ?

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Hilton Thanks for asking. Unfortunately I don't have the 9XR anymore so I can't do a setup video. My buddy has one so the next time I see him I'll see if he can let me borrow it for a few hours. It would be fairly similar to the setup of the NAZA except your flight modes will happen on another channel and your PWM values will be different to trigger the modes. But other than that it should be fairly similar. Good luck with your setup.

    How do u setup the channels for the Torrent Blade 110 quad? Prop doesn’t turn when I move throttle. Then if I move switch to ID2, it starts spinning. Help!! I’m a newbie.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with that quad model but check your channel configuration as that's likely the culprit. I think the default Taranis is TAER so but check your slider screen that shows all the outputs of the channels as you move your sticks. Then make sure those match up with your Blade 110 channel config. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

    dose this tx have heli or airplane mode to choose from, which one are you using for your setup.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      New Sky RC Drones It has a simple template which is like a airplane mode on the 9X. It also has a Heli template, which I haven't used. You can see all the templates here:
      www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/1058418382X192693X3.pdf (see the table of contents to find what page the templates are on).
      I just started from scratch, which I believe will default to the simple template. Don't quote me on that, but that's what I recall. Hope this helps and good luck.

      Lawrence G Sorry to hear that. I no longer have my 9XR handy so unfortunately I can't help out. The difference in the config program may be that it's been updated since I posted this video. The general parameters/settings should be the same, but they'll be in a different location within the app.

      Dennis Baldwin I actually have both because the first time I tried to buy the Taranis it was on backorder so I went for the 9XR. Eventually the Taranis came, so I'm using that now along with a D8R-II+ receiver. Haven't really used the 9XR much so I can't compare.
