I had the same issue on my 03 rancher, did the same as you. I also had to change out my fuel pet cock on the tank also due to the screen/filter being plugged full of rust.

i didnt buy a new one... my local dealer did a search and there were none available in the entire United States. i just cut the rest of the metal rods off of the old one and put it back in as a plug.
