Takeaways from mistakes you do in your 20s:
*Mistake 1:* Using your energy and limited actions to maximize money, instead of maximizing time. Thinking that time is unlimited, and money is scarce. Therefore spending time and money with a short-term vision to make short-term gains, or get short-term comfort. All actions should be weighed against at least a 10-year vision. Taking the actions that benefit the long term vision are always the correct actions. Ie. Gaining experience, building a resume and focusing on being cool among girls instead of focusing on a long term business.
*Mistake 2:* Getting too comfortable with your achievements so far. Not taking big risks because you want to protect what you achieved so far. Not deploying capital you can afford to lose, not sacrificing your existing comfort, or other irrelevant aspects of your life for a bigger goal or dream.
*Mistake 3:* Following others. Trying to replicate others, because you haven't defined yourself yet. Not identifying your own unique strengths and letting yourself be different, not doubling or tripling down on what makes you, you.

I have this huge dilemma. I have a gorgeous girl, who believe I can do anything if I want to. Problem is, I spend almost all my hours with her. I do read, I do work out, both I do with her though. Graduating from High School in two weeks and idk what happens next.
My problem is that I can't decide if I'm "wasting" time or not..

    • @kanisbdg
      @kanisbdg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@tingsborg9375 you're becoming way too dependant on her if you do everything together. First you need to learn how to be properly alone, meditation, reading, working out and all kinds of different stuff, with pure focus. Then after you've mastered your own alone time, I guess spending some more of your time like that with your girlfriend would make sense. But you need to prioritize what's really important to you. Different people have different goals. Just because I'm saying this doesn't mean I'm right though. I'm a different person. I wouldn't want to rely on other people too much, first I want to rely on myself, and then I want to be responsible for others, still not to rely on them. People come and go, who knows what will happen in a few years. Maybe you will have her as your wife and you will have kids and a beautiful home. But will your goals be fulfilled then? Maybe she or you will have an accident or something else will happen that will split your paths, you might become heartbroken if you rely on her too much I guess, then you might become regretful of why you haven't followed your ambitions most of all. Maybe then things would have worked out different, and you still would have had her as your wife, because you were strong enough to protect the relationship? Who knows.. life is small decisions unfortunately, but some things you know deep inside, you just need to search for it and open your mind to it. Good luck.

Nothing wrong financing cars. You can finance a 10k car. Or less. It's more like, being dumb and wasting too much money on cars.
The car is a box w wheels that gets you from point a to b.
I can bet you that the guy who has high social skills, lots of friends and decent things will get more than a clown who drives around in circles trying to show off an expensive car.
You know what's gonna happen? Hes gonna catch a case. And get sued for everything he has. Literally on the news all the time.

@The Metalhead great strategy if you want the nicest things you can use right now. Not the best strategy if you want to own it outright or grow your wealth long term. Delayed gratification. Nothing is wrong, everyone should do what they want. I really want a C7 Corvette now at 31, I could finance it right now, but that 35-40 grand now will cost me millions in the long term. If I wait 10 years, I could buy a ZR1 cash no problem saving for a few months. It's just a mindset. No answer is right or wrong. Everyone has different goals.

You really hit home because I’m 26 with a young family and I have spent my 20’s working my ass off, trying to work myself out and think where I want to be long term. I'm 29 now... I had/have an excess of stupidity but none of the confidence. That was crushed early in my childhood and teens (if it was ever really there to begin with), followed by chronic depression, a metric shit ton of anxiety, stress and self-esteem issues which caused longterm unemployment and multiple burn-outs. But I'm finally trying to turn it around despite being crippled by college debt, having no savings and being broke. Having no guidance or a mentor in your life really is a handicap that's difficult to overcome in a world that's so fast-paced. My one redeeming quality is that I'm decent at drawing... But that's about it. Devouring content on self-improvement in the hopes of regaining some semblance of confidence so I can do something without burning out again.

    - Make sure the future you in 2031 takes priority, not the current you

Hi there 3D artist here. Here's what I figured out when it comes to money and 3D. You can make tons of money on 3D by teaching it. Allan McKay, Ryan Kingsley literally make millions teaching. Working at a studio is a stepping stone really and if you stay working for studios you'll waste your time in the long run. I say this because I recently named myself a "financial prepper". These financial crashes happen about every 10 years on average. The real way I see I can protect myself and my family is to make real money. Being laid off and depending on a job and losing it, Recovery can take years and if this keeps happening in a 10 year cycle, you are in this constant hamster wheel. In summary, 3D is great, I love it, but you need to have a money strategy in place to survive these stupid crash cycles.

I just turned 20 2 weeks ago and ive been changing my life around because i wasnt doing anything and thought of that. On my birthday I thought I dont like where I am right now and I had to figure out a back up if I dont just get rich like a realistic goal and then research how to get rich which is why I'm here. But my back up was to become a nurse who after 4 years of school can make 50-60k and then do more training over years to get a more specialized job that can make over 100k. Its not a millionaire but thats more than both my parents make now so if thought its good to share it.

Most important point and a great reminder
    11:35 - 11:51
I understood the concept of making more money and not making more time early on, in my late teens. But what is even greater advice in my opinion is to look how you balance it as you spoke about in the part of the video mentioned above.
I went from money-scarecity (cause of upbringing) to time is scarce and money, well, not abundant yet in my account but i went from "if it already is worth my time. Then it definitely is worth my money. So the opposite it true too: if I'm not cool with spending money on it, then I mustn't spend time on it."
And that guided me for the past years in a major way in all that I'm doing.
But I find it hard to explain to others.
So I think the a very very good way to start is to ask how easily ready are you to invest time? Compared to your money?
If it's clear that you spend time more rapidly without thought, there's a lesson there.
Edit: I feel like I should clarify that the mindset shift to "you can always make more money and time is the scarce ressource" didn't led me to riches yet. But it definitely made me invest my time in reading, reflecting, investing, risking, trying, failing over and over. And basically just made it possible for me to hunt down my dreams. From doing so you get the confidence that it's more than possible to reach it. You don't let other people talk you out of it anymore. And you get to know more and more how to get there though the failures (experiences) and gained knowledge.
Edit 2: let me talk about why the video part is so important. So, KNOWING that time is more valuable is something a lot of us already know. If not most. But what now? Well, we need a way to IDENTIFY if we already apply this knowledge. A way of "tracking" or measurement if you will.
You do that by COMPARING how easily ready you are to spend time vs spending money. How much do you hesitate for one? And don't do it for the other? How easily are you convinced to spend one compared to the other? And how easily do you give away one compared to the other to people in need who are not even close to bankruptcy with time or money? Losing which of them created more angry moments in your past? And I'm not talking about losing time to the stupid relationship you had somewhen, pointing the problem on somebody else. I mean the moments when you spend your years gaming or hanging out in the clubs. Or doing other stuff that gave you like a 7-10 on the shortterm happiness ladder. But which compared to your dreams would be maybe only a 5-7. If even so.
The short videopart is the best way I have ever heard explain how to measure where you're at with this principle.
Only knowing is not merely enough. We gotta keep ourselves accountable through measurement

The part about time is so true and not a lot of people fully grasp the idea, for most of us your 20's comes with a plethora of time that can either be spent wisely, or poorly. Essentially most people in their 20's are throwing out the most powerful investment they will ever receive. Think about companies/extremely wealthy individuals that will pay millions to own/fly private jets, that's literally how much time is worth is to people. You're essentially already "rich" in your 20's if you can free up time and trade it for experience rather than money, but that's where everyone screws up.

Im so happy I got out of my degenerate state early. I had a year long relationship at 14 and figured relationships weren’t for me.
I was the stereotypical partying dr*g dealer for throughout high school until about 18.
Now I’m 19 and have realized all of that degenerocity never really gave me any satisfaction or anything to show for my time. I was as broke as I’d ever been, had no real goals or ambitions and was so lost in life.
Since then I’ve really sobered up and changed my life around and I think I have found my direction in life. No matter what position you are in you can change your life if you really WANT to ! 💪🏽 thank God

This is way to complex and iffy. Get an education, find a good paying job 75k/ yr, In your 20s put 2k per month in a mutual fund, in your 30s put 1k a month into your fund. No more money required in your 40s, buy at least one houses 15 year loan max. At 50-55 you will be a millionaire and your house and cars will be paid for and you never have to work another day again. It worked for me and it required very little risk. If you don't believe make a simple excel spreadsheet and see for your self compound interest is what will guarantee your wealth.
Wealthy people don't need to sell you anything or tell you how rich they can make you......
