Why I REALLY Quit "Make Money" Marketing

  • Late last year I completely left and took down access to any "make money online" beginner course I was associated with and committed to only working with existing business owners and my SaaS business. There's a ton of reason why and I think sharing them will help so many people avoid the same mistakes.

    I'm not a business man and probably will never be a millionaire with what ambitions I have in life, but I gotta say I have watched every video you put out in the last 1.5 years, and I really appreciate the honesty from you, it really helped me grow mentally as a person to tackle my own ambitions with more clarity and focus. There is just so much bullshit and fake ass people out here trying to sell you some shit and rob your time/identity. Finding real wisdom is almost impossible for the average person nowadays.
    Just wanted to say thanks man. Your channel is a hidden gem.

    With the downtime forced by this quarantine, I have really been sitting down and thinking about my life and where I am. I'm currently 26, living in NYC, and can say I'm not happy with what I've been doing so far. I spent my early 20s getting a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, with some plan of continuing on to get a PhD because that seemed like the golden route (outlined by parents and other influences). However upon graduating I realized it felt like I just went along with this path and didnt feel happy - for the last year I've been working in brokerage operations because there's little work for a Chem Bachelors in my city and I had bills to pay. I'm now stuck with figuring out what to do for the rest of my life - a huge part of me wants to start a profitable business because in the end I simply want to do something I can be proud of and know that I as a person created something of value. Your content speaks to me Mr Becker, I hope to apply what you're teaching going forward

    Learning from other people's mistakes is so valuable, yet so hard. Watching all these successful people talk about how they failed and succeeded is inspiring, but sometimes it feels in vain, because I make the same mistakes in the end...

    • @danielandai982
      @danielandai982 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pain is what ingrains it in your mind, it’s why people learn from the painful mistakes, people when people first learn to love it’s the begginning of their understanding of Hardees people don’t understand they love something till they lose it, it’s all relative to the pain that experienced, sometimes the pain they experience is too much and breaks a person, whether it was their X or their family member, thier friend, their dreams and goals etc 😢.
      Essentially
      You aren’t going to learn if it isn’t hard that’s and you haven’t learned anything until the piece of knowloege you have in your head is applied/ changes your behaviour.😎

    16:00 It's amazing hearing this. I've felt like the Make Money Online niche is pretty toxic in a way, because there's so much crap being sold - and as you say, basically, people need the education to change their mindset if they want to become rich - but people don't want to work on their mindset and no one wants to sell mindset. Status quo. Thank you for your videos, Alex!

  • @brailpetkov684
    @brailpetkov684 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    It's like the niche is the 2nd Stage of Market Sophistication (which Eugene Schwartz explains in his book Breakthrough advertising), where the only way to stand out from the competition is to promise more (to the absolute edge of believability). From $100 a day with SEO or whatever to $10k a month in 6 weeks + Victoria's Secrets models blowing you off... Someone needs to take their 'make money online' business to the 3rd Stage. Where the mechanism of how the product works are more important. This is exactly what Alex is trying to explain i.e. "making your bed". Or maybe, someone needs invent something new... like delivering actual results for the people or giving them so much value for free that they can start making money online with just the free stuff, and then transition to the paid products 🤔

    What do you think the equivalent is on Facebook? TH-cam seems to have relaxed compliance on “make $ online” FORCING people to make outrageous claims to win, but Facebook is tougher (compliance). Ecom wise, Since everyone has access to the same suppliers do you think the value comes from brand building and almost the “alchemy” of building out an offer (upsells, subscription, etc.)

    great video Alex.. all I can say is that the "make money online" business niche is like the gold rush.. and when there is a gold rush (like a gold rush of people who wants to make money online) you sell the shovels (the training courses) then add the lambos, big houses, expensive lifestyle etc for maximum effect.. The training courses makes the training course provider rich not because of the method but because of the sales from the courses.. then up the "standard" more lambos, big houses etc.. like fueling the hype more.. (feedback loop)

    I would avoid charging in any way, however, for this advice just from a trust/honesty perspective. Your message is more trustworthy if you have zero reasons to upsell for a course/membership of any sort. I think by keeping your content free it will give you more value through your increased reach and validity as a personality than the money you would make through charging for it. Just a thought.

Its all quite sad. When it’s all said and done, no amount of money is going to fill that hole in their hearts for not having put energy into something that helped their fellow man. There’s a difference between cunning and intelligence. I get needing to make a living, but millions? You want to be a millionaire from deceiving your fellow man? That’s quite sad.

    Very interesting.
    1. "Only a few big swings from 20-45" --- totally agreed. Id personally say that from what I've seen of others, 45 is a bit lenient. Another number I've heard is from some billionaire investor type is that every entrepreneur has a 20year 'golden period'.
    2. "The biggest challenge in the MMO niche is changing the person, but its not what people want" --- yea. its annoying. tony robbins type stuff. Totally 100% agreed on the incongruency between marketing (flash) and product (changing the peoples mindsets).
    3. "...focused on growing a company through WOM" --- Totally agreed. This is obvious to me (now at least).
    A few questions:
    A. Have you considered becoming a fully transparent organization like Convertkit, and make all your financials public on baremetrics? What factored into your decision?
    B. Im assuming here that a number of your Hyros customers are in the bizopp niche; did they exert any pressure on you to get out of the bizopp niche? I recall a buddy of mine released a clicktracker (Voluum) focuses on affiliates, and there was lots of pressure from other affiliates for Rob to get out of his own affiliate business.
    C. What are your thoughts on working with investment advisory firms, that work with companies like ours to either be acquired, or to rollup other similar companies (M&A) in preparation for a sale? I ask because Im probably pulling the trigger on working with one of those right now.

    Alex why don't you make a video on that Cybernetics company you said you wanted to start in the future? Does it involve Elon Musks Neuralink? That'd be a really cool topic

    Been dealing with the exact issue today and am thankful for the timing of your message. I believe that the world is changing and that your ability to influence lives will bring you even greater fulfilment in times to come. Perhaps if it wasn't for your earlier 'money-making' methods you might not have had this huge following now ... it serves great purpose.

    if you're wondering why he says something along the lines of "if you don't watch this whole video, you're not really invested in your life" in the beginning of every video, it's because it hurts the algorithm if people click off the video before watching the whole thing. very clever strategy.

      @@oDannyMitchello Alex is a master at tricking his audience into believing he's doing things differently in terms of his online money making approaches. But, his content is still great, so more power to him. I respect the hustle. Feigning complete transparency has made him very popular. He's just a step ahead of the competition in this aspect.

    Hit the nail on the head. I had built a 20 person call center in an industry I had no passion for and it absolutely drained me mentally and financially. Walked away and am now focusing on something I like and am 1000xs happier.

    It’s like Chamillionaire saying he doesn’t want to be a rapper or The Rock saying he don’t wanna be a wrestler.
    You’d have to make a MUCH GREATER Impact in another area to pull that off. It’s very very hard to do. Especially if you’ve been extremely successful at what were you doing before.
    I still see Will Smith as a rapper and he’s a GREAT actor.

    I think one main issue you are forgetting is that you are still developing as an entrepreneur in the beginning stages. You’re not going into entrepreneurship and after a month you know, oh this is the business model I like the most. You first have to try out things and that takes time too. ;)

    26:50 I agree 100%. Honestly I just listen to the mindset stuff. I've learned so much about dopamine and habits with your videos. I can now wake up at 5am (without an alarm) pumped to get on my computer to code, for 5 to 8 hours a day. By the way that nightmare mode is hard AF bro. Thanks for the content man. Wilfried.

    • @jsean7456

      Hey how did you start out? Was it easy to cut out your smartphone at once or did you do it gradually? For me it is a struggle to stop watch youtube videos. I'm intrested to know if you have experienced big changes.

    • @mdndev2627
      @mdndev2627 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jsean7456 For the coding part, I started 4 months ago. As for the nightmare mode, I am on day 5 right now, I had deleted my social media accounts (Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook) last summer. That helps a lot because I don't want to try to create an account, so that's another reason for not being on my phone often. But obviously I still have a couple friends with whom I am used to exchange text messages so to go gradually I just respond 10 mins after waking up and never again ,so that they can't respond right away. After that I just put the phone away from where I work. After a couple days you will feel a little difference. As for the videos I just cleaned my TH-cam account of all the stuff I had been watching that was not relating to business/mindset/coding. I suggest you just unsubscribe from gaming channels, fitness channels etc... For example I am just subscribed to Alex, Sam Ovens, and a couple of serious coding channels. That way, if I feel like watching videos after a day of work, I can watch videos that will benefit me. The n°1 change is that I enjoy coding much more. Hope that helps.
