  • If my video helped you or saved you money, please consider donating to my channel using the Super THANKS button found just below this video. Each donation goes towards tools, project supplies, parts, and production value. Big or small, every bit helps!!! In Part 1 of this series, I show you the steps required to remove the front control arms on a 2001 - 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. In the part 2, I will show you how to install the new A-arms along with follow up videos on how to replace the sway bar end links and mount bushings as well as a full replacement of the power steering rack and pinion. ✔ • ✅( PART 2 ) DETAILED I...
    After all repairs are performed, a full 4 wheel alignment must be performed to prevent premature tire wear and unsafe wheel and tire alignment. Normally, the alignment will include shifting the cradle as well as repositioning front end components to achieve a proper alignment and steering geometry. Remember, it is up to the mechanic to ensure all components are installed correctly and all fasteners are tightened to specifications. Inspect your work before driving the vehicle!

    I have a 30 gallon husky compressor with high flow fittings. My aircat regular and stubby scream. I can't do more than a 5 second squeeze without the compressor turning on, but every fastener comes off like it is finger tight. Have not met a fastener that won't say uncle. Will be doing a full suspension change on my 2006 T&C. Struts, sway bar links, tie rods and control arms. Just did all four bearings, brakes and load leveler shocks.

    Brace does not need to be removed. I just replaced both control arms by removing only brace bolts on the side you are working on. Brace will flex so you can remove and install new control arm with ease. Using 18mm open end wrench was a big help without removing the axle. However, I noticed that was the only size I didn’t have in my tool cabinet and most tool sets at stores don’t include 18mm for some reason. Thanks for the video.

    I love the DETAIL. So many video's cut off the most important steps and that is the details. I couldn't figure out how to remove the front bolts on this *^*##!! control arm. Now I do. The biggest drawback that I have is my van has lived in Maine for all it's life and not many bolts just slide free. I should probably have stock in lubricating sprays.

    Why take the entire brace down? Loosen the bolts that will allow a crow bar to open up the space to allow the bushing to fit through.

      Have you done it that way before? That's the same thing I thought at first, but I was unsuccessful because the bushings are so stiff & compressed in there.
      If you've done it that way, how exactly did you do it & what tools did you use?

      At 8:04 you can see approximate mount points I used. I felt it was safer to double up stands and have a floor jack under the front motor mount. That way if the main support failed I had 2 backups in place.

    The gas recirculation is the fuel vapor canister full of charcoal pieces that absorb gas fumes when refueling and the other piece is the purge valve also part of evap system

    • @BOSSC351sProductions

      Its the EVAP system. Charcoal cannister, leak detection pump, liquid separator and lines. The purge valve is directly in front of the air cleaner assembly. Some have the LDP system and some do not. This 2002 van does not have an EGR but the 2005 I did this on did.

    Nice Texas rust free van but most of us dont have that luxury. If your in the midwest, even with a 3/4" impact gun you will not get those two body frame cradle bolts to move and be careful you dont break the bolt. All the lubricating spray in the world won't help, the nut cage sits above and you cant see it unless you torch a hole to get at it.

    Can you not just jack up the front of the transmission a little, to get that long bolt out of the front of the Lower control arm, instead of taking out the cradle bolt like you did? Or is jacking the tranny up something that is just not recommended? Getting ready to do both sides of my 03 Grand Caravan soon. Thanks for the info and the upload!

    • @AGuyandHisProjects
      @AGuyandHisProjects 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can and it works for many people if yout transmission mounts are worn...which if your a arm is worn your transmission mounts likely are worn as well. This guy in his video did it the way the service manual recommends though. There is much less risk of damage this way.

    • @BOSSC351sProductions
      @BOSSC351sProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was easier for me to just take the cradle loose. I really do not like jacking on components or pans plus you must take the mounts loose and also chance pinching or bending something. It really is pretty easy. If the cradle is not lined back up then the alignment shop will align it in order to align the front end.

    • @MattJonesYT
      @MattJonesYT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The factory service manual for my 2004 says that the control arm ball joint can't be replaced like on most vehicles and when it goes bad the entire control arm has to be replaced. The after market control arms may or may not be made so that the ball joint can be replaced by itself.

    • @BOSSC351sProductions
      @BOSSC351sProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is normally more cost effective to just buy the whole assembly already with the parts installed rather than try to repop a used arm with new bushings and ball joint. You then would be out of more time and labor to press them out and new ones back in as well as $$$ to pay someone to do it if you do not have the proper tools.
