Well thank you very much. This really means a lot to hear this. It does feel good to know that you like this video. This is the main reason I make this videos.
When reinstalling....you really shound make sure that the tool shaft is centered...you misaligned and bent the outer ring...which will cause premature failure...the socket u used helps to keep it centered...but an oversized cut of bolt head works alot better to keep it centered. Great video....but careful once is better than installing twice
Good vid. I use the same technique. Snap-On 1/2" cordless impact gets'er done as well. Note to viewers, If you don't have one or want to spend the money on a ball joint press, you can rent one at most Auto parts stores. Advance actually gives you a complete refund when you return it. I have to do lowers on a Silverado tomorrow. Can you come and do a tutorial on how to remove caliper bracket, wheel hub, knuckle, strut and lower control arm?? You may have to show me twice. Good thing there's 2 sides. 😂 Thanks for the vid. Wrench on.
Why are you taking all that apart to do the lowers ? Just pull the 2 lower strut bolts, tierod, caliper, axle nut and inner axle bolts, unplug the abs sensor, balljoint nuts and yank the knuckle. Replace your bushings and reassemble. No need to pull the hub and caliper bracket at all.
dont forget those with pressed steelarms.the gap just past flange place a wrench or piece of scrap to avoid warping/bending of them other wise new bushing will have trouble aligning
Pretty good tutorial. Unfortunately my lower control arm is a bit more tricky than this one. I've got an old Nissan Primera P11 / Infiniti G20 . One bushing is similar to this, but the other one is quite different. It looks like the alignment is critical as well. The ball joint is a bit tricky too. I think I might just have to replace the whole arm, kind of annoying, but I don't have the special tools needed to replace the components on the arm individually.
Which approach would you use if bushing has a lip which covers the arm completely, so you cannot push against the arm with a wider cup? Talking about Honda specifically, and not the compliance bushing but the other one, the narrow one with a lip? How to get it out?
Are the control arms kit that are purchased on ebay any good? You get a kit with like 17pcs for $145. I need to know before tossing out the original arm controls and replacing them, other wise I can just change the bushings.
Great instruction, straight to the point it is all about the visuals 👌🏾👍🏾💪🏾👏🏾😱🙏🏿🇯🇲🇨🇦. A great friend to give you this tool had to purchase mine 🤷🏾♂️🍻😯but in the long run money well down for an at-home mechanic, these are very versatile toll👨🏾🔧.
We don't have an air gun. Just a battery powered impact drill that can change heads. Will that be enough? Or are there ball joint presses that can be turned by hand?
@@OzMechanics it can't even take our lugs off when we need to do the seasonal tire change. I have to crack it with the breaker bar first. I found another video that showed someone use a socket + breaker bar with a ball joint press on the bushing. Is it standard practice to take the whole control arm out to get the bushing out? We have a 2005 Sienna that needs the LF control arm bushing changed to pass inspection.
You can try, unbolt the control arm from the body, and try to pry it off and just maneuver it around with the ball joint on. But you will have a “fun” time doing that so you might as well pull The Whole thing off Comment is from a year ago, but if you need the info still, here you go
It is a hefty job. Plus this doesn’t include the ball joint. I normally change out the whole bar. But this video was just there to show how to replace the bushing on a budget
That's because they only pay 10 minutes per bushing and sometimes they are seized in there like crazy. Not to mention, if the bushings are shot, good change it's time for balljoints soon anyways. I'm doing a suburban right now actually with new moog bushings and this video came up as I'm playing on my break. It's scary how AI does that crap now. I ordered bushings this morning and then TH-cam is suggesting videos about them 😂
I tried this method today on my upper rear control arm today to remove the bushing so I could put in a adjustable camber bushing and it pushed the middle of the bushing out leaving the sleeve in the control arm. No clue how to get it out.
@@OzMechanics bushing is not that bad. I just hear a squeezing noise sometimes when I break. And a clunking noise the odd time. But the steering isn't affected much tho.....
All it took was hundreds of dollars in specialized tools. LOL Ok no seriously, if you have the impact wrench and can borrow a bushing press, you too can save a lot of money on your car repair. I would say if you need one or more bushings replaced, this is a good time to invest in a lithium battery powered impact gun from Makita or DeWalt.
@@OzMechanics I do it too man. Ain't worth walking to to the toolbox when I have a nice shiny 19mm right on my cart 😂 they get beat up a little, but its whatever.
How not to replace a bushing! Shouldve used an adapter when pressing the new bushing in instead of just going raw with the bushings shaft, easy way to mess up you brand new bushing.
Just put bushings in my front lower and it seated every time I attempted it, problem is, every time I reinstall the coil spring the back bushing unseats about 1/4 in. What do you think the problem is.

What's the best way to fix a lower control arm if you forgot to put support and pinch the control arm

I wish I could buy a whole new lower control arm. Mine has been discontinued for a 97 Tahoe 4x4. So I have to do this procedure
Think after market prothane or urethane

what if you have to re-use the metal sleeve with your new bushing, it seems like pressing the bushing out of the sleeve would damage it?
It should have come out in the first attempt, you could have used the press the other way where the pin pushes the bushing out

Only thing he forgot was to lub the bushing before pressing but great job still
Lube kills the rubber
You can use a little dish soap
@@destinyachieved4599 Use synthetic grease.
Cool Rosary bracelet ⛪
if the bushing is removed will it be damaged? or is it possible to remove it and grease it then put it back on?

The bushing was completely worn out. Have to use something large enough to push on the outer sleeve
This should be titled how not to press control arm bushing. Do not push on the rubber.
Cool. Just make a video and show the proper procedure
Where else are you supposed to press on?
On my doesn't let me put the ring on the out side, what should I do?
Passenger side on a Ford. Great caster adjustment!!! Finally they did something good.😂😂
Unless the head of the bolt turns and threads don't like what happened to mine 😠

What abouto6 lower control bushing thats on mounting plate
Good job! Showing some support!
Thank you for the info
Forze 77 no problem. Glad you enjoyed the video
Waooo Im lost all day today trying install those bushings In same parts you think is a lot better doing with air gun than doing by hand
What is the worst that can happen if you have a bad control arm bushing and you just keep driving without getting it fixed?
If the busing is really bad. Won’t have too much control of the vehicle and have premature wear on other suspension components
@@OzMechanics bushing is not that bad. I just hear a squeezing noise sometimes when I break. And a clunking noise the odd time. But the steering isn't affected much tho.....
There's clunking and creaking then likely throwing your alignment off which eats your front tires...get it replaced
this has been very helpful ...genius thankyou
