It really is. An amazing piece of engineering. It blows my mind how light and small it is, especially for being one of the largest cubic inch V8s to be put in regular cars from that era.
What's amazing that the LS can fit in literally every single Porsche from the last 50 years without even modding passenger and luggage spaces, in fact with room to spare (even the 914 and Boxters). Also, like a lot of people, I'd assumed the LS would always be heavier, and even that isn't the case, so the 924/944 and 928 retain that fantastic front-mid engine, rear transaxle balance.
These types of cars have been around for a long time. Jag with 350... TR6 with 302... Miata with 3800 turbo v6. My dad built an Austin Healey 3000 with a Corvette 327. It's fantastic that this man and his crew has taken on doing these beasts for those willing. The possibilities are endless! Wish nothing but the very best for this business! 🙏
If I owned a Porsche this would be the one. The LS is such a good engine and Porsche is beautiful and well engineered. A match made in heaven that is more than the sum of its parts.
To be fair, if Porsche's were well engineered, it wouldn't have needed an engine swap. Yes I have one. They are pretty and handle great, but there are serious questions on build quality.
The pdk with a ls would be a lot more impressive from a design standpoint. That would be a really interesting car. Especially with forced induction to the ls
I'd be curious to hear it with an X pipe style crossover instead. X pipes normally create a higher pitch, European style V8 noise that might suit the car more. Regardless it sounds good for what it is!
@@RenegadeHybrids how much top speed did you lose ?....... And a wrecker 3.6-3.8 turbo motor would cost approx. What you spent on the mod... Same HP 502@ 8500rpm similar torque 386ft/lbs @3500rpm..... But revs to 9000rpm 100mph faster from the SAME gearbox/diff combo !
@Guise Any comparison to a 997 turbo motor is simply ridiculous as cost of the P-car turbo engine and installation in an NA body would exceed $70k and weigh over 210lbs MORE than this junkyard V8.
As a previous 997 ls swap owner... I can see some of the great options they offer and some of the things the other brand I used offered. RH has the better mount kit and adapter setup, it doesnt move the motor forward at all. Allowing the sway bar to be retained and not needing an oil filter relocation kit as with the other brand. RH also has the better throttle body/cold air setup as well. The other brand has the better can-bus harness solution thats plug & play while using a GM ecu, saving tons of money over a standalone as RH builds The one complaint I see with the RH kit is the exhaust, specifically the mufflers being under the oil pan and the heat that creates. Thats not ideal for oil temps at all, minus that it's a very well sorted kit by a company thats been doing V8 Porsches since forever.
Wow, that muffler setup is pretty ingenious and sounds pretty decent! I think the sound could benefit from an X pipe but seems that would be a difficult talk with how everything is setup. This guy truly loves what he does and was a joy hearing him talk about his creations.
Love their quality and attention to detail. Not something you see in most swap shops. Im sure its pricey BUT seeing the detail itd be worth every penny!
20 years ago i almost did this with my 914 that got wrecked. Instead I sold it for how much i bought it for. They had kits for small block Fords and Chevys in a 914 huge HP numbers. They have been masters of what they do for many many years!
As much as I can't stand Flowmaster's design principles and the choke they can put on exhaust flow, I love the outside-the-box thinking to use them to mirror one another and create a Helmholtz resonator. I think I'd still prefer to see some type of muffler like Borla that utilizes uninterrupted continous flowpath with varying internal materials to suppress sound to desired levels. Regardless, what an incredible build! I've always been a big domestic sports and muscle car guy, but Porsches have really grown on me. This is absolutely the best of both worlds with basically every positive attribute you can think of: more power and torque where you can use it, more durable, less weight, and more compact. Simply incredible that all of that can come together in a package like that. Renegade definitely gained a new subscriber just to see what else they do.
That exhaust sounds amazing. Now put a stock version VS you're car. Guy knows his stuff and he knows it well. The fabrication and the welds are good looking.
Honestly I think it sounds perfect. Not too stupidly loud but not quiet enough it’s weak. Amazing work from those guys! Probably now the most reliable car ya have lol. Epic!!
More power and torque but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. A flat 6 will always be the right choice when it comes to a Porsche. A v8 doesn't match the character of a 911 and will only make it sound worse. A flat 6 at high rpm is so much better sounding than a v8
If sound is your only criteria, and reliability, serviceability, torque, and affordability are not nearly as important, then I guess this is not the car for you.
Great.... another car I didn't know that I needed to own. Twin 6466's would be so much fun on that car, or a single 82mm. Amazing build y'all.... love it!!!
This is the type of car you crash because you always wanna press the loud pedal and hear it scream. The work is top class and the ls motor sounds amazing I think the only thing that could top the sound is adding a charger but there is no way it would fit.
Awesome! Definitely Cool! Luv it , reminds me of when I converted my 2 seat dune buggy from 1835cc to Cadillac Northstar 4.6 v8 , the power was incredible and smooth 😂
For all that trouble I couldn’t have helped heads cam rockers and pushrods. Possibly even a 12:1 441ci NA monster. Maybe Frankenstein or TSP 285 heads with a good tight LSA bump stick.
This would be Awesome to own I’d daily drive it!!! And the LS blacked out looks so good in it!!! I wish the car was black or red!! Such a great build they did!!!
Shout out to the team that pulled this off because this is exactly how a swap should be done unless you’re actually going for a restomod. This is extremely clean and looks like it was purchased off the factory floor just like it is. Willing to bet there won’t be a stock Porsche could touch it, if he added twin turbos and maybe a few engine upgrades and have nowhere near the money into the engine that you would have into a Porsche engine.
Wow there's more space in that engine bay than with the flat 6, I work on my 911's and I tell you busted fingers are a norm, no matter what you're doing back there.....great job!
The beauty of the 911 is its handling. The handling is great because the flat 6 engine lowers the center of gravity. Putting a tall V8 destroys the handling. He’s turned a gorgeous German masterpiece into a Frankenstein mess doomed to failure. (Yes I know he bought it that way). I bought my 911’s with flat 6’s and the drive was glorious.
So awesome. My coworker had a 1970 911 with turbo LS - it was crazy! It was very rudimentary - nothing as cool as this modern stuff. One last thing- there’s a misconception that German engineers are the best…..but in reality they make stuff way too complicated (imho). I prefer American Engineering- it makes more sense. The exhaust sounds great. The best solution is usually the simplest solution. I would swap my Porsche but it’s a 1967 912- it would need everything upgraded.
Dude this is sick! If you're planning on doing anything cosmetic with the car I suggest going with a dark green wrap and some bright silver wheels. Would compliment that interior and make it look so classy, but be a secret rocket ship!

Absolutely.
It really is. An amazing piece of engineering. It blows my mind how light and small it is, especially for being one of the largest cubic inch V8s to be put in regular cars from that era.

Good to see the Renegade guys are still at it. Been thinking about a kit for my 74' 914 for 10+ years now. Good to know they do Boxsters too.
Pretty nice fabrication on that exhaust system! Very clever!! Making good use of the materials as I like to say.
A symphony through the tailpipes. Love how it 'gets out of the hole' with no wheelspin, just rocket-like acceleration.
The SOUND is a home run, and how I’d want it! Interior is stock and then that sound and power doesn’t match the stockness of the car. Very cool guys.

That is a beautiful car and it sounds great. Don't change the exhaust, it is rumbly enough. Good choice to do the work in Vegas
What did it cost to do? If the video is for informational purposes the price list should be put in the description.
It looks controllable without crazy wheel spin. It won’t kill you. Well done. Fun car.
Remove the black hood stripes! Hmm detracting from the car’s beauty! Exhaust note is excellent!
Maybe I will find this out when I watch your other videos, but how much did the swap cost? And how much did you buy the car and LS for?
Really; some ballpark idea? A range?

i actually really like that sound. it sounds like minimal drone which is important
I love the way the detail on this car was done. Used oil pan to control oil starvation problems, but cats so car can pass state emission test.
