What I like most is that your candor is generally very respectful and geared towards finding common ground instead of geared towards polarizing intentionally.

      Love you Steven, but I think you were too hasty with Syd. I am a biologist and I would have loved to ask her what she defines as abortion. Based on your conversation with her, I actually don't think she understands it. She stated that abortion is when you take the baby out of the womb which is a really broad statement. You started to touch on it at the end with the wood chipper comment, but I would have loved to see you pin her down on that and explore it more. I think the conversation would have been more fruitful for those gathered and really exposed the nonsensical stance of late term abortions. Otherwise, excellent job! The other conversations were very fruitful. Keep up the good work!

      @@domg0714 Fetuses don't have a right to life. You want them to have a right to life. Why are you giving rights to something that isn't even born yet. Every other mother of every other species will kill an offspring if it becomes a threat to its own welfare, that is just natural to do. Yes it's cruel, but nature is cruel. At least with us, we are killing the fetus pre-birth, before it is even sentient enough to feel emotion, or in some stages, can't even feel pain yet.
      Also, you should realise that just 1% of abortions are in the third stage. The majority of mothers will not have it in them to abort a baby when it is in the third stage, and many that do are usually doing it due to potential birth complications that can threaten the life of the mother. Nevertheless, third stage abortions are still very rare, and you shouldn't be using the 1% to argue why the other 99% shouldn't take place.

      @daisylavenderlove ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@TomboyBabe At the very moment of conception every zygote has a unique genetic code that renders them an individual life. Although this zygote is a human it takes time for it to fully form. This is the natural development process & just because it is a process doesn't mean the fetus is any less of a human at 1 week than it is at 30 weeks. If someone was going to be on life support for a 100% predictable amount of time, we wouldn't pull the plug on them. A baby has a due date which makes it very different than someone on life support. There's no question that the baby is coming out. The baby just takes time to optimally grow & develop, just like a toddler grows into a child, adolescent, teenager, & adult. Parasites and babies are much different. comparing them is like apples to oranges. A parasite if inside the host too long will start eating the hosts organs, making nests in their lungs, turning their blood to poison, to list a couple.
      Parasites are also of a different species. If a human contracts a parasite, it's most often from uncooked food. I once got a mild case of intestinal parasites from eating rare deer meat. When you get parasites the parasite literally turns your body into it's home. it carves the inside of your body out, some parasites inject poison into your blood stream, some even make nests inside your body. parasites if left untreated Will kill you if it wants to.
      Like someone else mentioned, women's bodies are made to carry babies. women have a literal super power of reproduction while a parasite will simply kill you.

This causes immense pain for their family and freinds, otherwise known as their social network. They created this network by making bonds and emotional connections with people and the world around them. A fetus has NOT done this. Therefore, how can anyone be sad that someone they have had no connection with, were gone. Yes, we may feel bad that there was a possibility of connection, which would be ended with abortion. However, this feeling is far less than a loved one dieing...... I believe what a makes human is our interactions with others and that people care about us. But a fetus does not have this YET.

I watched on ultrasound as my baby kicked and jerked her arm, trying to free herself. She was delivered a few days later by csection with a red, painful scratch on her arm. There is only one thing positive from a fetus, which is stem cell research. Sounds cold, but shit at least my “baby” in this example might be the cure to diseases in the future. Personally, I’d raise my child and wouldn’t feel good about having an abortion, but this is my stance. People have their own stance. If I’m told my baby will suffer for years etc and never be ok, I will have an abortion because at the end, I will suffer for my child. For me to have my child, I’d be selfish. To have the abortion, I’d be torn, but my child would at least not have to suffer and have their soul move on and maybe take another form

    I do not entirely agree with Steven's definition of being alive. For me, being alive means to have or have had some form of consciousness, or, in the absence of that, the ability to perceive. In foetuses, hearing kicks in at around 18 weeks (feeling pain comes later) - that would be a logical limit for me. As doctors can only determine the age of a foetus within a 2-week window, it makes sense to therefore push this limit forward by 2 weeks, to about 16 weeks.
    There might exist other definitions for the start of life. In Dutch law, it is the age at which a foetus can survive outside the womb without its mother (24 weeks, though in practice doctors draw the limit at 22 weeks for aforementioned reasons). Some say life starts at conception, others when the foetus has a heartbeat (5 weeks). However, calling such a small clump of cells a human life when that clump is as conscious as a culture of human tissue cells in a Petri dish seems a bit strange to me. The only difference is the potential of that clump of cells to grow into a human being. However, it is not and in my opinion should not be punishable by law to kill potential.
    Another thing to consider: this video keeps talking about ending life. Not human life; life. We kill around 72 billion land-dwelling animals each year that are more conscious than a 5-week old foetus with a heartbeat. If the former is legal and acceptable, then surely the latter must be too.
    As a woman who has been trying for almost a year to have a baby with her husband, I would not dream of having an abortion, but I find it incredibly important that other women are given this choice. A 30-year-old friend of mine has been offered an incredible research position in the USA, but has refused it because of anti-abortion laws. She is afraid that, if she were to get pregnant there, she would be forced to carry the foetus to term. This, to me, is a great example of how anti-abortion laws hurt women and limit their opportunities.
    So should there be limits to when abortion is permissible? Absolutely. But is it always wrong to have one? In my opinion, absolutely not.

    Lets be honest. In our modern society sex is viewed as selfish satisfaction as opposed to a meaningful connection. Abortion is a way for people to discard their mistake. If you are going to have sex, understand that childbirth is always a possibility and be ready to take care of that child if pregnancy occurs. Also understand that adoption is always an option.

    • @captainhiltz73

      smithfan22 Sex isn't viewed that way by the vast majority of the population. It is only a narrative being perpetuated by a small percentage that are ashamed and hate themselves so much, the only way they can rationalize their actions is to do everything they can to demonize the moral majority. It comes down to : how to enforce it, how to deal with extreme cases like rape, incest, risk to mother, a child being born in such a way to be infinitely suffering, how to stop them from killing themselves or doing shit like tossing themselves down stairs. The issue is case by case with a lot of naunce and issues in how one would enforce anti aboration short of tying women to a bed and forcing them to be subjected to life altering pregnacy. As well as moral and philisophical debate as to our future when we kill our next generations. Might be aborting the next Einstine. In a way if it werent invented life would be much much easier. But since it exist and the knowledge exist I doubt theres turning it off. So dont go painting it as such an easy thing. @aimee7083 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I have always said I’m pro choice until I watched this video. I think the option of abortion should still be on the table but only for extreme cases. Rape isn’t the only example tho. Personally, the only time I would consider abortion is if my baby had osteogenesis imperfecta. OI is a bone disorder that causes soft bones which leads to the baby easily breaking their bones. The babies with this disorder usually don’t live very long after they are born (at most, a few weeks). They can feel the pain of their bones breaking inside the womb and that is the main reason why I would consider aborting my child. Rape and medical reasons are the only things keeping me tied to pro choice, but for the most part I am pro life
    Edit: even if I had a baby with OI, I would opt to be induced and deliver my baby so I could hold them while I could. It’s more humane to have them go naturally than to kill them in the name of mercy.

    • @scarnoir6566
      @scarnoir6566 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know someone born with OI who just turned 42. Please tell him how you'd have killed him :) He is a professor at a university by the way, so... His life turned out to be quite good. He has to be careful, yes. But his life is wonderful aside from that. Killing him would have been euthanasia and I don't think you'd support that.
      Medical reasons that kill the mother guaranteed, yes, I'd understand that. But why eliminate a chance ( now matter how low) of a life, by killing it ? Deliver it and at least have it have the chance. You eliminate its chances beforehand and i think thats inconsistent in your otherwise logical argument.

It’s simply murder. Even the cases of rape and incest I no longer agree with, because it’s such a small percentage and it doesn’t justify murder. 2 wrongs don’t make a right, murder doesn’t undo rape. I'm prochoice only because it is not societies burden to care for a child that the parents themselves won't care for. Why should our tax paying dollars fund a child that the parents never wanted to begin with? Statistically speaking what happens to orphans or children that are neglected? Do they more often than not become productive members of society? I don't believe they do... overwhelmingly speaking... so that is why I leave it to the parent's judgement if they are going to care for the child or not. It is not any concern of mine to dictate if someone can or can't have an abortion. I personally would never want my spouse to have one because I would care for any child, I helped create.... but I wouldn't ask society to care for my child if I chose not to. Especially since we see how well society cares for these children after they are born. Right wingers love feeling high and mighty saving fetus' but don't give a shit after they are born because then it's too late to undo it. LOL If the neglected and orphan children start getting more help from society so they become productive members of society I'll change my mind. How about when our country is no longer the world leader in incarcerations per capita then I'll start listening to prolife speakers. Sometimes you have to fix other problems before other problems will self-correct themselves. :) This problem will self-correct itself when poverty and crime diminishes, and education improves. Is it morally wrong? of course it is.... but everyone on this planet outside of our Savior does morally wrong things. In the Bible it says thou shall not lie, steal, cheat or kill.... I don't remember it saying abortions... but it does say thou shall not kill.... but war is okay to kill? Their are grey areas that even the bible doesn't have answers for so as a society we need to find what the true answers are. To really understand the opposite side of a discussion... ask yourself instead.... why would anyone want to have an abortion? Then you might find some understanding even if you don't agree with it. One more point.... didn't god test Abraham to kill his son but at the last second intervened and told him he was just testing his faith or some nonsense? What if Abraham didn't stop in time? Why did god contradict himself saying thou shall not kill then tell Abraham to kill? Why did god kill all the first born children of Egypt (those children were innocent themselves weren't they?) This is probably blasphemy but god seems to be a good killer for someone so Benevolent...? Mic drop...If god can kill the first born children of Egypt... I believe the parents can decide if they want to have an abortion or not. I commit sins so I can't bestow my beliefs on anyone else via a religious channel.:)

      thing is about white privelege is it purely depends on where you are and where you live. The way the "priveledge" card works out, is it largely depends on what area has the most of which race, if an area is dominately black than you will struggle as a white person, this was eminems story, he was very open about how hard it was. It really just depends on which race has the higher population, the bigger numbers gets the favortism.

    • @Sneshie
      @Sneshie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I mean, I've done more research into the topic, and I do agree that white privilege does exist, but not necessarily in the liberal sense, because I also think that other races have privileges that white people do not. That's the thing about race, as much as people want to believe it, were not all the same

    • @andrewfurusawa4609
      @andrewfurusawa4609 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tommydashed4205 I agree. I think she's trying to say is that she defines abortion as "removal of child from mother" not necessarily killing it. But if it so happens that the child didn't survive the removal from the womb, so be it (which is what the conversation should have been centered around). So according to her, you can "abort" a baby without necessarily killing it, and you can still keep the baby even if you "abort" it if it is "autonomous" enough. It sounds like she was trying to argue that for the mother's health, she wants women to have the choice to remove the baby a.k.a. "abort" it.

    • @TIMedWork
      @TIMedWork 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, I have had conversation with a man who justified killing people who were 65 years of age. He did so. He claimed to have more rights to that person's property than the old man and his wife did. It was then I realized it has nothing to do with right or wrong, but legal and illegal. Selfishness vs. responsibility, and strength of character. Presently it is illegal for unauthorized people to take someone else's property. Not that taking their property is innately wrong, just if it is unauthorized to do so. So the person (owner) has no inherent right to their own property; just a legal standing to defend it, until that legal standing is nullified by someone else...some lawmaker. The 'autonomy 'argument puts in jeopardy anyone who is in a nursing home, hospice, or any other care facility, as one who needs the help of others to survive.
      The government believes, in certain instances, that it has more right to a person's property than the person does (think taxes.. we don't vote democratically on the rate or dollar amount). And they will come with threat of force, including lethal (IRS agents are armed) to take it from you if you disagree. In the premeditated act of ending an innocent human life (Planned Parenthood), the argument is entirely legalistic. The act of ending an innocent human life is (should be) repugnant to anyone who would also respect the life of a dog, a cat, a tree, a whale or a coral reef.
      If the mother made the choice to end her own life ...shot herself...even though it is "her own body", it would be illegal in many states in the Union. But if she ends another life... her unborn daughter's... then it is OK. If the mother paid a team of trained professionals to kill her by tearing off her arms, then her legs, then crushing her skull and putting her mangled parts in a body bag, and properly disposing of the remains, it would be illegal. But if that same woman does the same thing to another human ...pay Planned Parenthood to kill her unborn child... then it is OK, just as long as that other human is her own offspring. Clearly, this has nothing to do with the principles of right or wrong; it is entirely about legal or illegal. and the two are not mutually inclusive. Hillary Clinton said as much: "Sure it is a human being, but one who has no legal standing to defend their life". And, over the years, we have seen them change. What was Constitutionally prohibited, became legal. Think Prohibition.
      If we fail to defend life in all its stages, it is just one law away from when, that which we each think is our own, becomes suddenly forfeit because it became legal to remove it from us, not because it was inherently right to do so. (You won $1.2B in a lottery. Sorry., says Bernie or Elizabeth. That's just too much money for one person. Because 'we said so'. It is forfeit to the state.) There is no such concept any longer of that which is "is yours" if you, ultimately, depend on others to keep it) This is the principle behind Logan's Run, the movie. Your right to Life is removed from the Constitution and subjected to arbitrary law which defines what you keep, and what you lose. So, though our Constitution guarantees to protect (but does not grant that right) the *unalienable* right to Life, it can be nullified by others who decide to whom that right applies. And being human seems not be the necessary qualifier, in our current state.
