As someone from India - one of the oldest eastern civilizations - I can assure you that when we refer to the "third gender" it is exclusively about the small percentage of people who are intersex or who cross-dress. No one in their right mind believes that a male can be a woman or vice-versa. In fact, man and woman are physically and socially clearly distinct in all Indian cultures. A lot of our ancient traditions and mythology are about the complementary strengths of a man and a women and the sacredness of their relationship. Don't appropriate my culture and claim we believe in infinite genders! Oh, and btw - we have Goddesses who are warriors and Gods who dance and sing without being fragile and confused about their gender.

I'd say it's a much more affective tactic to get your point across in every circumstance because showing your opponent respect will allow them to be more open to hear what you believe in. However when you do have discussions like this you run the risk of being drowned out by a crowd pleaser who thinks speaking louder means they're more right, and relies on public opinion to back them up, as we see in this video.

This man was giving people the opportunity to explain their side of this controversial topic.
