In practical terms, the extreme toe bias of traditional MB blade iron designs from the 1950s would cause the momentum of the swing to try to twist the shaft and the club in the hands. The force was enough to twist the old hickory shafts that golfers would compensate with hand-eye coordination to get the club face back to square as ball released to target. With metal and carbon fiber shafts which twist less the torque created by the mass distribution is still felt in the hands when directly comparing and older blade design with the more modern cavity back. The ideal situation is when the MOI of the club head keeps the face of the club more or less square to the swing arc. That’s what Karsten Solheim tried to do with his Anser putters and PING EYE irons and that quality also makes the face deviate from square less if the ball is not struck ideally.
So why to advanced golfers prefer playing with MB blade designs? The twisting action causes by the toe bias is what provides feedback though the hands about how to the toe and face are aligned at key points in the swing. Once a golfer becomes accustomed to the feedback felt in a perfectly executed shot via the feedback in the hands they can tell during the takeaway and downswing when it isn’t ideal and know how to use hand-eye coordination to “save” the shot. Arnold Palmer wrote in one of his books that he could tell if a swing was going as planned in the first 18 inches of the takeaway.

Very interesting video as all Ralph's videos are. MPF gets a lot of talk on some clubmaking forums and obviously much of it is mis-understanding of the MPF and what you would use it for.

Riddle me this one though: Why do vintage MB irons (like the WilsonStaff Tour Blade) feel so wonderful on good hits but the "maximum correction" clubs feel dead? I never switched and probably never will. I like feel too much, and know I'll miss one here or there.

I would like to ask you something please. I was thinking about building a set of your STI2 irons and wanted to see reviews on TH-cam and there is only one person in the entire world on TH-cam that has reviewed these clubs and that is some guy named fit 2yougolf. He is either family, employee or a paid spokesman for your company

That has changed. There are a few guys doing reviews of the Maltby clubs after popular demand. I've never seen a bad review of Maltby clubs yet. Did you build the STI2's?? I've seen the Fit2you guy too. LOL

Search for MPF chart. There's a long list of irons throughout the years. Most if not all Maltby irons are game improvement or higher, based on MPF
