  • Workington in Cumbria is the whitest place in England, with 98.5% of the population identifying as white British.
But that could change very soon.
Cumbria is getting more diverse and this people in Workington are exactly the sort of people that right-wing politicians are opening to exploit, by appealing to their worst instincts.
Ed Campbell went up to find out what they make of it all.

Why is that a shame? people in Africa quite rightly moaned about white people being there taking resources, so by the same token. I've always held the view that people should be allowed to develop their own resources in their countries without being bombed or displaced and firmly believe that the west is greedy and that only the poor pay the price. Why not view it that way rather than in terms of a melting pot or worse imagine skin colour makes some people saints, it doesn't. Culture stripping in Britain as much as anywhere is an agenda. Division by skin colour or genitalia and sexuality enables the handful to grab more without opposition as communities are broken down. Norman Fowler did not say on your bike for nothing. People who go on about this stuff most are the people who sit in ivory and do everything on paper but do now give up anything. Fight for your welfare state instead of your skin colour, it is superficial, patronising and racist.

1,417,000 net migration over the last 2 years is clearly not sustainable on any level whatsoever. It wouldn't even be sustainable if Britain was 5x the size that it actually is.
283,000 new homes have been built over the last 2 years, so in effect there have been 5x more immigrants than new houses built over the past 2 years. How long is that sustainable for? It isn't.
How do we assimilate this level of migration? How do we deal with this amount of people when it comes to teaching them the language, and the essential skills needed in order for them to get a job, and not rely on the tax-payer to sustain them.
In the UK, those identifying as 'Muslim' had the highest rate of living in social housing, at 26.6% - this is according to ONS government statistics. Had we integrated these people better into society, and at a slower rate, then would less of them be reliant on the UK tax payer? The answer is most likely a resounding yes.
In 2021, according again to ONS statistics, people who identified as "Muslim" had the lowest percentage of people aged 16 to 64 years in employment, at a meagre 51.4% - far below the national average of 70%. This is most likely down to a lack of skills, education, and a language barrier. Once again, had we accepted immigration at a sustainable level where we could have integrated people better into British society, then these figures would likely be less alarming.
I could go on and on, but clearly, to not only the UK but almost all European countries, we are reaching a point whereby some drastic changes will have to be made to ensure that immigration is kept at a level that is sustainable. Will we see the end of free movement across Europe, for example? Once thought totally out of the question but now a very real possibility. Will be see deportations at a scale unimaginable in years past? This is a very real prospect.
Who knows what the next 5-10 years has in store for Europe. It is certainly going to be something to behold.

Identify skill shortages now and expected in the next 5,10,15+ years. Adjust the curriculum to suit. Incentivise study in these fields with free tuition & grants. Encourage upskilling and retraining for existing population.
Allow fixed term working visas to cover the skills shortages experienced in the short-med term.
Reform foreign student visas. No dependents. No queue jumping enrollment for your payment.
Implement points system visas. You have an in demand skill and from a country with a similar culture, rule of law etc (Anglosphere, Commonwealth etc) your scores are weighted. @BambiTrout 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

But we're not being "ethnically cleansed". White British people aren't being killed. We're not being driven out. We're not even reducing in actual numbers. We simply represent a marginally smaller percentage of the total pie than we used to. If that's "ethnic cleansing", then people dying of old age is "genocide", and being gently stroked on the cheek by your wife is "domestic abuse".
"Ethnic cleansing" is when you are being driven from your homes and turned into refugees. "Ethnic cleansing" is when the bombs start falling. "Ethnic cleansing" is when you and every one of your people is under direct threat of becoming either dead, dying, in exile, or well on their way to one of them. The Holocaust was an ethnic cleansing. The Rwandan Genocide was an ethnic cleansing. What is happening in Gaza is an ethnic cleansing.
Meanwhile, we simply occasionally have to listen to someone speaking in Hindi on the bus and see a woman wearing a hijab on the street.... wow. The end times are surely here. I must lay down in the street and prepare myself to be cleansed... (if it isn't obvious, this last paragraph is dripping in sarcasm).

Net immigration was 700,000 people last year. It was 50,000 around like 10 years ago. Meanwhile we are building 150,000 new houses every year, which isn't enough to keep up with the current demand let alone an extra 700,000 people each year, and people wonder why house prices are going through the roof. 🤦‍♂️

    • @u.2b215

There are 700,000 empty homes just in England alone with 250,000 being vacant for more than 6 months already. Also with smaller household sizes we see larger existing houses being split in more than 1 dwellings so the actual amount of houses being added to the supply is close to 250,000. Let's also not pretend as if immigration is the only reason for increased house prices, there's also the problem that more are single and stay that way for longer. So people in the UK actually have more houses per person than they had in the past.

    • @Roberta80
      @Roberta80 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

House prices are going through the roof because there's a vast amount of money sloshing around in rich people's bank accounts looking for a home (literally). At the moment, interest rates mean it'll stay in the bank but when they fall, and they will, then on house prices you ain't seen nothing yet, the 'roof' is going to get much, much higher.

I live and work in Workington. I'm in healthcare and I'm an ethnic minority. I was born in a big city but lived most my childhood in Cumbria. I have to say that West Cumbrians as a whole are very tolerant and welcoming. I feel that with the nuclear power plant coupled with it being near the heart of the Lake District, the local population are used to and understand the benefits of outside influences/visitors. This could all purely be my own experience but any slight hostility I've experienced while being in Western Cumbria has mostly been from people that have moved there from elsewhere. I remember a patient "accidentally" admitting he'd relocated to Cumbria from London because "there aren't as many immigrants". He went rather red faced and looked somewhat embarrassed after that. I've had a few older people ask me what it's like being "coloured" in Workington but language like that is used due to a lack of experience with minorities rather than any malice. As I say, overall people are quite friendly.

      Thanks for your comment.
The problem is not the colour of one’s skin or race. It’s about having a common ground, culture, heritage. Respect for the country and celebrating their heritage and history. Many immigrants have come to England in large numbers and from many different countries. Some have integrated and that’s great though many have no interest in our culture or heritage. They have come here with their own culture and they will stay there and not mix it or respect our heritage etc
The separation is so noticeable and felt, that the local white British people have left. So many of these towns and cities are full of mainly immigrants and little population of white British people.
For example, Southall is less than 4% white British. Much of London is completely alien to English people. In fact even Ukrainian people who moved there felt completely out of place. They said it’s not England nor English at all
Basically, our government opened the UK borders to anyone and everyone ( Tony Blair)
They have not been picky on who they let in like they used to decades ago. The result is that integration had been little to none and the new arrivals have little to no idea what our culture is. So naturally they will stay with what they know. Also the immigration numbers are so high that many of our towns and cities have been culturally changed. No English culture there, it’s gone.
London, Luton, Birmingham, Leicester, Bradford and many other places. They are so diverse that English people don’t feel a connection to their own culture. Our government will protect the immigrants and not the British in the same way. There is a two tier police force. We are feeling that England is not our country anymore and it’s the only place we have - it’s our home and many immigrants want it like their home similar to their ancestral homeland - it’s crazy

@@EpicAelflaedimagine yourself moving to another country and think how long it would take to integrate with the culture I.e. learn the language and understand history, customs, behaviours etc. it’s a forever process and it takes a lot of work. I have first hand experience as a Brit who has moved to Germany. I’ve picked up some basic German but it is HARD and I know I will never be a ‘real’ German. I’m lucky I can work a UK job remotely because it would take me years to know business level German to find a local job. And it will likely never happen. It’s far easier and more comfortable for me to find English speaking people in Germany and befriend them. If I have kids here they will naturally become native but I will always be a foreigner. And consider this is a white European talking about moving to another white European country. The difficulty non-European / older people speaking completely different languages would have to integrate with British society must feel near impossible and a lot of them will move with families to look after and without the time to integrate. Besides, the UK has always had groups of people move here and bring their own culture which becomes part of ours. Example, If you went back 200 years to London you could walk around an area near Soho known as “little Paris” where French was the most common language. Or go back 1000 years where French was again spoken by the high society after the Norman invasion. Culture changes over time. It’s a non-issue.

@@matsui90 I understand your point and I’m not disagreeing with you. Though that’s just one perspective and mainly your own with moving to Germany
I have no issue with immigration it’s just the sheer numbers in such a short space of time. You know yourself the challenges when there is given time and support from the government for integration into another country.
Our government under Tony Blair was ‘mass immigration’ that has not been controlled or assimilated. This is experiences from Muslim and African people. They would agree with you wholeheartedly though thee was a British culture when they arrived. Now and the last 30 years, England and its government have changed this policy completely. They are fully committed to diversity and inclusion (for them) and we as British have felt this. Many of our towns and cities are simply not English anymore and little to no English culture. The best way for you to understand is to go there yourself and ask the locals. They will tell you that there are enclaves of different cultures and they do not mix well if at all. Look at social media as there is more evidence what is going on.
It’s a completely different time when you emigrated to what it’s like today. England and the UK has open borders and many don’t have passports or documentation when they come here ( on boats, lorries) or anyway they can. Some are genuine and some are not. Still they are breaking the law coming here illegally and the numbers coming are huge. They are looked after with free accommodation etc and yet they leave our homeless on the streets.
We haven’t the proper infrastructure or resources for the people already in Britain. The problem is much worse than you can imagine. Like I say. I see your point but it’s not the same as 200 years ago with a few immigrants here and there. It’s a huge unsustainable situation and it’s becoming increasingly unsafe too

From an Eastern European point of you (no, no Borat's village and no cabbage and turnips for lunch, but a normal country 😅), this report and the current state of the British society clearly shows the UK is gripped by an ideology (just like we were 40 years ago). Ours was communism, yours is diversity. Research has shown time and again that people strongly prefer to live in homogenous societies. That's no racism (read the definition of racism before you accuse me of it). It's our human nature, we're wired this way, we feel comfortable and thrive in such conditions. Nations living in their respective countries are like families living in their own homes - they can be the best of friends and help each other in all ways possible, but that doesn't mean they have to live in each other's homes. Why would they? Yes of course, a certain degree of diversity is welcome - it brings new ideas, new inputs, new perspectives. But to create a hodge-podge of widely different cultures with opposing outlook on life that can never find common ground in crucial questions...well, that's recipe for a troubled future. Or at least a not happy one - you'll be living in your closed communities, side by side, but not with each other (because that's human nature, remember😊, it's already clear now). It's been also proven that the most prosperous societies are those where just one culture is dominant. With the current state of events going on, there won't any dominant culture in the UK in a rather short amount of time. And how do you want to govern the country then? Or do you think you'll live in a happy utopia? If so, let me remind you of the Indian-Pakistani conflict on the British soil. And that's just one example.

And there's no ongoing cultural conflict such as you suggest.
There's a lot wrong with your comment but those would be the primary points.

      2. Multiculturalism is tearing Britain apartal by Rakib Ehsan.
I'll also try to find a video where the link between prosperity and homogeneity was discussed - of course, that doesn't mean all homogenous countries are prosperous and that prosperity solely depends on homogenity. Certainly not! That would be too simplistic. But people in countries that are very diverse with no unifying principle tend to be caught in various conflicts (social, racial, religious). Can you build up prosperity (wealth, safety, social justice) in a society where people are caught in various conflicts? Those conflicts ARE present in Western Europe nowadays. You're just unaware of it. Judging by your style of writing you might be a young person with not much life experience living in a protected environment and full of lofty ideas. Likely intellectually-minded. Probably a (university) educated female or an unsporty guy. If only people behaved like those lofty people wish them to behave! But they don't. Most people are still tribal in their thinking and tend to seek out company of their of own kin. Not only that. They tend to distrust the other groups. Why then do you have Chinese, Indian or Pakistani boroughs in Britain, or London specifically? If people weren't tribal, they'd live all mixed up, regardless of their ethnic and religious background. Haven't that crossed your mind? Yes, there's mixing going on in the UK, but it will take ages and by the time it can bring something new and positive, one of the newly arrived cultures will gain dominance. That's how things work. It's like a natural law that a new hierarchy will be established. It will take some time, but it will come and the new order will last for the next several centuries. One of the new cultures will gain the upper hand either by violence or by the other cultures willingly accepting it. Those intellectuals imagining some timeless coexistence of cultures with opposing principles are simply wrong. You'll realize it yourself one day. But by then the UK and Western Europe will be gone (that would be ok, if something better was created instead but so far, it doesn't look like that - just have a look at the crime rates - why do you think countries like Czechia, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary or Romania have lower crime rates and are safer now than France, Sweden, Germany, Italy or the UK. Check it out. Even though the latter countries are more wealthy. You can guess twice why.).

Is immigration increasing in Cumbria because there are so many job opportunities that are attracting immigrants, or is it just cheaper for the government to house asylum seekers and refugees there than it is in London and the South East?
I just looked, and it seems that's exactly what happens. The vast majority of migrants to the UK live in London and the South East, but when it comes to asylum seekers and settled refugees, the South East take just 0.3 per thousand of the population. London do a bit better with 0.8 (but I bet they're not being housed in the nice bits of London). Meanwhile the North West takes 1.7 per thousand and the North East 2.3 per thousand. So the North East, an already deprived area, are taking over 7 times as many as the richest part of the country. And because the Tories have been so awful at actually processing asylum applications, the number of asylum seekers is much higher than the number of settled refugees. In the North East, 1.6 of the 2.3 are asylum seekers, meaning they can't work or contribute to the local economy. These people could be an asset, but they're not allowed to be because the government are dragging their feet too much.

I can understand someone older wanted somewhere a bit quieter and smaller and quicker to get around for day to day things but you can't expect younger folk to be able to live there all their lives into old age and actually do something significant really.

When most people move somewhere else to settle they want to feel a sense of community & unity, thats simply not possible in a mass immigration nation with people coming from all over the world, it just ends in alienation & balkanization.

@@chimpana I met many mostly asian taxi drivers during the whole Brexit period who were complaining about all the foreigners coming over here. I'd say a good 60% of them were first generation immigrants and the rest 2nd or 3rd. It really took me aback. It was always interesting when I had a white driver who expected me to agree with their racist views, then see them squirm when I disagree (politely). They just assumed because I was a white guy I'd also think like they did.

I don‘t think anyone is saying stop immigration - the issue is that there are currently too many coming. The influx must be sufficiently slow/small that the immigrants will become integrated. This just isn‘t happening - and we can all see the issues that are arising due to this! If the net immigration is currently of the order of 700000 per year it needs to be reduced to about 20% of that. Yes, there will be issues in areas like hospitality but we have enough unemployed who could take up much of this slack - employers must make the work more attractive with higher salaries. The people on the left who say only the immigrants will take the lower payed week are willing to have these immigrants treated like 2nd class citizens.

@@shaunpatrick8345 I'm sure you have iron clad evidence to back this up, all well sourced and vetted.
GDP is up because of the massive gulf in wealth. The rich have gotten much, MUCH richerover the last few years and aren't spending it, just putting it into a bank somewhere (probably off shore). That pushed up the average.

    • @shaunpatrick8345
      @shaunpatrick8345 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@TalesOfWar GDP is a measure of spending, not of savings. If rich people have more cash, which they don't - rich people buy assets - then GDP would be lower. When the government spends on benefits for newcomers, that makes GDP go up. But GDP/Capita falls, and we can't afford to repair potholes.
Do you know the proportion of housing benefit paid to people born elsewhere? The data is available, and it blows out of the water the claims that new people are a benefit to the economy. Some are, but giving them a vote and access to welfare does not make them productive. We have no need to do that, it neither benefits the economy nor society. Yet it is done.
