Why do I still swim and run as a cyclist?

  • This is what a typical rest day for me looks like as a cyclist. I really like the freedom feeling you get from running so that’s something I definitely will bring with me from triathlon!

    Could you explain how it is for you spending so much time in the saddle now compared to tri?
    How does your body and especially your butt deals with this much load on the bike? Do you have any tips or hacks?

      I struggled a bit with it in the beginning, but then I found some tricks:
      - Right saddle high is maybe the most important… Do not sit to high!
      - Using different bibs so the pressure not is the same every day
      - A saddle that you feel comfortable in is important
      - Using chamois crème
      - If I’m getting a period where it’s worse than normal I usually use baby powder 24/7

    Keep doing your runs and swims, it maintains your upper body strength and bone density plus it's good for your mindset as you mentioned. A good all round fitness is better in the long run no matter what conservative cyclists tell you.

    A question, wouldn't it be beneficial to use "stiff" fins when swimming to train calves for cycling? Maybe the cycling helps the swimming more than the other way around though, not sure :).

      Maybe! Haven’t been swimming since February, but it’s for sure good for the recovery!
