💕The wooden pieces coming down from the ceiling is great for starting the fires in your log burner💕The ash from the burner is great to use in the garden on many plants💕
Renovating an old house, there are ups and downs, joy and disappointment, but the time will come that you will be proud of your work and your lovely home. When all the dirty work is over, that's when you'll be relieved and eager to move on to the next phase of work. Good luck and see you there.
Gotta love a lathe ceiling for making the finest, most exquisite dust ever. Trouble is, it's absolutely addictive and all the ceilings and walls will need to come off now that you've started because nothing, absolutely nothing will have a straight line in it until you put it there! Good luck! It'll be done sooner than you know.
What a surprise to see that floor sitting on dirt. Wow. Well, you will make it right and be rewarded with a house that shelters you for a lifetime. Keep up the morale and remember to have fun. Someday this will be a memory and having fun will make it so much the sweeter. Stick a wheel on that gate, let it carry the load. ❤
If you used some of those wood boards as vertical slats screwed to that gate-frame it would a lot “less unglamorous” (to coin a double negative!). Keep going, we’re all agog!! Les
Wow, your really getting to the bottom of things and doing a great job while your at it. The new gate looks perfect and shout out to ya dad for his stella lawnmowing!!❤
Get stuck in, that’s the way ! I did mention on my last comment about advice for your chimneys/fireplaces of course that’s free of charge advice. I also suspect you are getting loads of advice on how to do things, which can be annoying, but if I could suggest and it’s along way off after watching this latest episode as when you have the electrics done you might want to consider raising the plug/switches from the normal skirting board height to about 2 1/2’ to 3’ up, we did this because it saves you bending down plugging in vacuums etc and if your planning on staying into your senior years it makes a difference. Anyway well done both. Ray 👍
Well done again both. What a task you set yourself. Me, I love a length of 4x2 and how adaptable it can be to all sorts of tasks so when Gav ripped into the lathe and plaster with it, well, it made for an aggressive and impressive tear down. The fact that you both turn to a get on with it is so refreshing to see. Whilst I’ve just had a weekend with my wife decorating our living room, I thank god that our job raised a lot less dust than yours……. Great work and great story telling…… love it! All the best W
Glamorous gate or not you guys are stepping ahead. Well done on the front room. We had the same, beams on the solemn too. We lifted and replaced with insulation and concrete. Job done. Looking forward to next weeks update. Keep firing on.
@citytosmallholding LOL I should have been a bit more tactful 😳 It's just that your house is so beautiful and traditional but some things just don't belong in there 🙃
So pleased to see you both wearing masks, I use the same one for woodturning. Obviously you now understand the potential issues with welting the corner of the fire place. Good to let of steam thought. A nice woodburner will go well in there. Go careful with the timber from this room, woodworm, dry rot, wet rot etc.
Ah yeah we had to destroy the wood from this room as per the surveyors instructions but we will keep everything else! Yeah I learnt my lesson on the titles 😂
Those old ceiling laths are great as starting kindling for a fire 🙂 Also keep the floorboards…. Cost a few quid to buy original floorboards at a reclamation yard.
i used to live in a 400 year old cottage, i think the damp problem wouldnt of been noticable when it was lived in as their would be a fire going daily. in my old place if i went away for more than a week it would take 2 weeks to get all the stones warm again, well insulated when renovating and had central heating but if the fire hadnt been on in a week and it was cold outside you could feel it creeping through the floors and walls. stoves and ranges beat open fires, at present tho a open fire is all we have, during a few storms its been a godsend, having a fire provided heat and cooking when we had no power, the longest we had no electricity was 4 days but for some around us it was a week.
Well you have touched on a bit of a sore spot there Karen 😂 - I would love to but Gav is saying because we will have all the pipe work under there and if we want any insulation we will basically lose it!
Debbi from Cincinnati here. I LOVE your sense of humor! It just makes my day to start my day with many chuckles! The “Leaning on the talking wall” comment just broke me up! 😂 Keep up the good work, I am am totally intrigued with you project house. Also, this Granny thinks Gav has great legs too.
@@citytosmallholding my grandparents installed one at home which is a farmhouse nearby. My parents pulled it out in the 1980s. Horrible cement and mass produced tiles.
Do you guys have a plan for the floors on ground floor? Will you dig down and then pour a pad? Or are you going to do any reinforcing interior or exterior under the house? Really curious how this will play out!
Hey, we are going to dig down and put underfloor heating in and then all the bits and bobs that comes with that - screed etc etc - Gav is better at the details than me 😂
@@citytosmallholding I’ve got a set of old wrought iron drive gates and post you could have if they would fit your gap. Wouldn’t want anything for them, be nice to see them go to a good home. Obviously if they suit your taste too.
Sorry to be a bearer of bad tidings but you will not believe the muck and soot you will have when you remove the upstairs ceilings. You'll come away looking like Pandas. Ask me how I know. Regards Jim.
Ok, semi-serious question. I've watched Escape to the Country for years, and inevitably every house shown on the program had at least one room or hallway painted a virulent pink! You will find out that demolishing this property will cost less than renovating it. It is not worth the work and cost, but hey I'm just a strange from the internet why should you believe me anyway.

I bet that house is glad you two turned up, it's gonna be epic when you are done 🙌
I really hope so! Also Gav is happy to give you advice on your ridge tiles btw? Give us a shout if you want to chat?
A good video good luck with the renovation 😊😊
Thanks! 😊

Loving this series, please make longer videos
Oh man - these take me so long to do already! Once I get better at editing I'm sure they will get longer!
Since the Tally Ho project has pretty much finished, this is my new favourite builder series, commenting for the algorithm.
Awww that really means a lot, thankyou!
One day at a time was my motto 😊😊😊
Very wise!
A lot of work ahead, following along with interest.
Thanks!
Well done❤

Love the jaunty leaning on your talking wall!!!
Great to see you’ve got J working hard!!!😜
Not hard enough! 😂
I hope the slate hearth can be restored. That tile surround was hideous, I was cheering when the heavy hammer was taken to it. Great work guys 😊

Ahhh we can't unfortunately because of the fungal stuff in this room but we are keeping the wooden floors upstairs

Yeah we will definitely be having a couple of fires in the house, I imagine we might get some harsh winters!
Dads on lawnmowers are a happy lot.
There's no easy way to remove lath and plaster, but it does provide loads of kindling!! The nail removal goes on forever....
That it certainly does!
That is the cleanest lathe and plaster ceiling I've seen removed. It's usually filthy stuff.
Yeah it gets in all your nooks and crannies!
Well done!
If you lay a tarp on the floors you can grab the corners and drag the rubbish out to your skip rather than a bigger clean up
It was so heavy I'm not sure we would have been able to move it all in one go but that is a good idea for smaller areas
Doing amazing
It's great to find the cause of your rising damp in that room. 👏 Will you lay concrete with underfloor heating in it? 🤔 From sunny Australia.
Yep that is the plan for sure!
Love the old beams in the ceiling, do you plan to leave them open?
Well you have touched on a bit of a sore spot there Karen 😂 - I would love to but Gav is saying because we will have all the pipe work under there and if we want any insulation we will basically lose it!

Hahaha Gav loved that!
That’s crazy you need a gap so air can circulate so the wood stays dry and dosnt rot that’s a real shame
Yeah a massive shame as the floor was lovely!
Thought it was snowing 😂 Came down a lot quicker in the end.
Just a wee bit!
ooh lath and plaster... most likely with black mortar... lush
Got to love Welsh black mortar!
Not, it used to be the bain of my life, bloody horrible stuff.
There’s only one Colin D!
@@woodenfurniture 🤣🤣
Mass produced....i pulled out three from my village house in Ireland which dated ti to 1760s.
I was really worried everyone would be upset with us for pulling them out but I’m glad it’s not just us that thought it was horrible!

Great content.. such a shame there was no ancient fireplace under that really ugly one…. ❤❤❤❤❤

I imagine that brick 'hole' probably held a Victorian cast-iron fireplace in its day.
Yeah you are probably right!
The info on the heritage-house site might be of interest
Oooh nice ok, will check that out!

😂😂
Really enjoying the transformation, how wide is the gateway, would you know?

The ceiling
I like that!
For some of the demolition jobs get yourselves a cordless SDS drill with a chisel bit set.
Ah yes we have one don't worry!
You could paint that gate black.
That's very true!
like the husband.... no nonsense ..... and he get the job done
