  • @poego6045
    @poego6045 2 ปีที่แล้ว +818

    Literally the first I'm hearing of these and they feel like they're like, a plot point made up for a movie meant to parody how the art world can often be stuck up it's own butt a lot of the time. These aren't bad figures per say, but they look very dime a dozen like most other Disney deconstruction type figures. Sure, it came out in 1999, but it's not as if there wasn't Disney criticism back then.
    The large art installations are defintely the more interesting aspect of it, as I'm very much a fan of gigantic installations. But when it definitely feels like the hype is due in part to it just being a status symbol, and it also is guilty of the same kind of consumerism as what's being criticized, it rings hollow and feels like a rich person's version of a beanie baby. Or it feels like it's Disney for people who are too self conscious to own Disney merch because it's not "mature" enough and they'd be embarrassed by it.
    TL;DR: These would make nice 20$ Funco type pops for shelfs but its ludicrous that they're as expensive as they are for how uninspired they feel.

      @@skreebim9612 I feel like it would be a little less scummy if, say, Kaws handcrafted these individually, or added some sort of unique touch to each; something to make each figure feel like an individual work of art that's part of a series. Instead, what's happened is they're mass produced in artificially limited quantities. No different than piece of mass-produced art from Ikea. I feel like most of the people buying these things are either rich, or think they can become rich buy buying one at a low price and selling it to some other sucker for high (hm, kind of sound like those non-fuggable toucans actually), so... If people want to waste their money on this type of thing, I guess there's really no stopping them

An artist stealing another artists work with minor changes, and then getting millions out of it, even if the change wasn't a good one, just that they had better connections or advertisement. I hate when artists take the working classes good outfits or art, commidying it so that it's only affordable by the rich, and driving the working class to worse fashion or having to work harder for more novel art to stand out (or worse, having the art that was representative of their life and culture ripped from them by fatcats)

    I remember seeing these in the Fort Worth museum, as a special display. I didn’t exactly understand it before, (because I was probably 10 and didn’t understand things like this, I just enjoyed the art) but now I definitely get what it’s portraying.
