I hope you read this David. I have been struggling with major anxiety for all of my life. It has stopped me from going to high school and other events. I sometimes feel like I will end up killing myself (which I will never). I feel like my brain forces me to be unhappy. I can never think of something happy. It's always "what if your family dies today" or something else ridiculous. I lay in bed at night thinking about the worst things in the world because my brain doesn't want me to be happy. I then put myself in those silly thoughts as a reality and my brain makes believe it's actually happening. I haven't been happy for about 5 years. You have helped me so greatly that when I am anxious, I just think about your video and it calms me down drastically. Your exercises help a lot. Thank you for existing David.

I wish this video was longer because of how much better I feel but I will keep replaying. I had a nocturnal panic attack and I've been trying to recover for almost an hour. I read some Bible verses and then I think the Lord led me to your video. This just helped calm me down so much. I wish the video was longer, your voice helped soothe me along w/ the exercise. This is invaluable, thank you so much.

Best to practice it in a variety of situations and postures. You want to be able to switch to this whenever you feel the need. If you always practice in a chair, you might feel dependent on the chair. So - work it into a variety of ordinary activities.

I started doing this a few months ago and it changed my life. When I get stressed out at my job or school, I'll go into the bathroom stall and do a 2 minute deep breathing exercise. I'll come out of there feeling like a completely different person. Extremely relaxed! It's like shedding all that dead weight!. It calmed me down and I was able to not get stressed out. I always do it standing up against a wall. I end up feeling much happier. Awesome video!

David, I'd like to express my utmost gratitude for you taking the time to make this invaluable video. I've had prolonged panic attacks over the past couple months. I went to the doctors and they put me on an inhaler which did nothing. It was simply that I was breathing with my chest muscles instead of my diaphragm. My chest would get tight and even cramps from trying to breath properly. Tonight I laid down and focused on this for 20 minutes, and now my chest is no longer tense, I don't feel dizzy, and my mood is improved tenfold. I can't thank you enough!

You Sir, saved me in about 6 minutes. I'd be lucky to say sighing dyspnea started 5 days ago suddenly and lasted only that long. I've noticed I'm not experiencing it when I make myself busy, but then it started again, so I started to suspect it is psychical. It annoyed the hell out of me, because it happened in every 2-5 mins. But I didn't know what is going on, found this video and solved my problem instantly. After a good sleep I'm not even experiencing the symptoms and I'm not worried because I know the cause. Thank You!

Thank you David Carbonell, this breathing technique really helped me with my panic attack tonight. I've been having them going on 3 years now due to stress and anxiety and I almost always feel like I’m not getting enough air (and sometimes I feel like I'm dying) and thus I panic more, which makes it worse. It took me about 10-15 minutes through this breathing technique, but I feel much better. :)

One thing I noticed, having struggled with anxiety and panic, is that I often second guess my breathing. When I'm in the panic zone or even just feeling like I need a deep breath, I can tend to over think the natural and fulfilling breath and not allow it to happen. just something else to work on. I'm working on becoming a second nature breather. It's tough sometimes.

I have shared this video with numerous people on a FB group for quitting smoking, and I think it has helped them all.
Back in 2019, I took care of my elderly father as he was dying with lymphoma. This video helped him, even if only for giving him hope. I was overjoyed when he really followed your guidance.

Thank you for providing this video. I've been suffering what I can possibly now call panic attacks for 4+ years (I'm 17, also stress sensitive). It's always extremely uncomfortable and I usually have to suffer through it until I can breathe normally again. I now know what to do :D
Though, one thing that confuses me is that whenever I eat peppermint candy or smell a strong mint (such as extract) scent, it feels just like having a panic attack.

Thank you so much!!! I went to the dr last year and he prescribed me lexapro because i kept getting panic attacks, the whole cant catch my breathe situation. I quit taking them because i gaine 30lbs!!! So its been a year later and panic attacks started occuring again about a week ago. I told my self im not goig back to take anxiett pills and gain weight. The weight is extremely hard to burn off. Ive loat about 15 lbs of it and it took me nearly 6 months and thats because i hit the gym hard 5 days a week. Thanks to your information i stumbled upon on google and now saw your video . I tried it 5 hours ago and WOW! Its working. Its taking me practice because i kept getting light headed kind of if i was high like a kite. So i just slowed it down and now im not yawning, acid reflux is not affecting me and now i can leave my fingers alone because i kept strecthing them for no reason. Thanks again!!

Thank you so much for this technique, you've probably saved me from calling the ambulance like I just did.
This helped me calm down after being up for 3 days in a very stressful situation.
I was convinced I was dying, after the paramedics checked my heart and told me everything looked OK. After they left I was starting to get a panic attack again.
Then I found this video and it slowed my heart rate which was the main reason for my panic attack.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!

Hey David, I've been anxious all my life but it had never been as bad as it is now. In 2018, after my beloved sister passed, I started getting very anxious out of nowhere while I was driving. I felt as if I needed to stop the car because I felt butterflies in my stomach (like the ones you feel in a rollercoaster) and although some may like that feeling, I don't, especially while driving. After that, I quickly developed agoraphobia and some occasional panic attacks. Well, fast forward 3 years now and I have not made much progress, I still don't go out. Im home every single day and I hate it. I have an amazing gf and two Wonderful little dogs that I wish I could take on hikes, road trips, etc. But I can't, at least that's what my head tells me :( Thank god that I am able to work from home and am a full time online college student but I am losing my faith here. Some days I don't want to live because im tired of feeling that knot in my stomach and that worry feeling in my heart for no apparent reason. I purchased the Panic Workbook and it helped me understand how anxiety works but every time I get to the exposure part, I find a lame reason to not do it and eventually I stop reading the book and then start it all over again until I get to the exposure part. Its the same cycle! I want to be happy, not just for me but for my family as well. Please what should I do?

I'm not really sure why, but sometimes I get the feeling of not getting enough air without having a panic attack. There's just this feeling of pressure on my lungs/throat that hits me randomly. This causes me to become more aware of my breathing and it makes it difficult to breathe properly. I have anxiety disorder, so would this just be a symptom of it? Also, thanks for the video! I'm definitely going to try this.

If I well understand like I believe I do, it can also help sufferers of Chronic Fatigue because it all started with stress issues and if you breath by the top of your chest, then you are telling your body that there is an emergency because you can not breath well and the body understands that there is an emergency. My life was trauma based so I did not learn to breath well and now I do not have much of a choice otherwise my health will deteriorate even more.

Thanks for creating this video. I was always told to practice deep breathing but I didn't know how.
I have found anxietycoach.com very helpful. I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks since childhood. I am 22 now. I was always scared even after being told " If you need help than sing out, I don't bite" from almost everyone.

thank you, it helps when i can't take a full breath which is probably the worst part. I do not know how to get over this feeling in m head though. Like i'm about to faint, idk what that's about, it's so uncofortable, sometimes even worse than the breathing. Together though.. let's just say i spent 17 hours in an emergency room for it.

  • @Spamkromite
    @Spamkromite 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you, this helped me a lot to understand better what they meant by "deep breathing", and getting relaxed during my anxiety, but now I must find a solution about how to prevent my adrenaline to kick in and grip my heart (I read you said that this particular feeling is actually the muscles of the chest tensing themselves but I mean when the heart rate increases even when you haven't moved at all - the adrenaline is hard to kill when it is constantly pumping itself into the bloodstream). This exercise relaxed my body but I don't seem to be able to calm that "griping feeling" in my heart (the discomfort doesn't want to let go). I think I'll keep practicing the belly breathing and expose myself to what causes my fears (must add that sleep deprivation might be worsening my symptoms - kinda like my body got used to just sleep 2 or 3 hours straight and just call it quits, like if it was some sort of afternoon nap or something but doing it during the AM hours). I have poor sight and my eyes plays tricks on me with the shapes in the darkness to the point to totally recreate an hallucination from a poorly lit shadow... It's so shameful. Exposing myself to the "compromising" images to fight the fear just makes easier for my brain to recreate the shapes in the darkness; I believe I can't "float" like Claire Weekes says, it is a constant negative feedback I can't control. Should I instead just avoid any imaginery about my fears and just wait for my brain to forget the shapes with time? This comment almost looks like a medical appointment at this rate.
Yes, I also tried just closing my eyes and putting the room in full darkness, but the "prisoner cinema" effect thing (your eyes are still electrically excited from exposure during the daylight hours and electronics, namely the computer screen as I work with computers all day) is even able to make those shapes out from those weird "sparkles", like a bad CRT TV screen movie, so the darkness is only "apparent".
With all that being said, this anxiety destroyed my appetite and my sleeping cycle, and becoming weak worsens the symptoms. Words can't express how distressed I am about this state of affairs in my mind and body :( Maybe I needed to vent out my feelings with a long comment but it is a small relief to share data about my current condition, hoping for a solution to appear out of the blue from a random honest internet user. Communication is key in order to solve problems, right?
Sorry for my weird English as is not my natural language.

Breathing exercises never helped my anxiety or panic attacks before, but a few days ago I learned that I was breathing improperly. Once I started breathing the way medical professionals recommended (the way described in this video), I noticed the difference immediately.
The big game-changer for me was the few second pause in between inhale and exhale. I was breathing deeply and slowly in through my nose and out through my mouth before, but I was never pausing between inhale and exhale. Now that I do pause for about 3-4 seconds between inhaling and exhaling, the breathing exercises help me out a lot during panic attacks.
It was surprising to me that something so seemingly trivial and insignificant (the pause in between inhale and exhale) was what made all the difference and turned out to be so important.
    Thanks for this video, sir.

wow, i had to learn how to breathe when i got panic attacks i learned how to yawn. I panic more when i can't breathe normally & get scared and i get dizzy because of it. It's really scary, but this helped a lot for me!

How the heck do I do this? When I push my stomach I feel like I'm exhaling. So I'm I just suppose to push my stomach out and that's it and it does the breathing for me? Or do I have to push my belly and do something else?

Great help, may I ask what type of Doctor you are? I've been having severe panic attacks lately, insane bp and heart rates, good oxygen levels, usually above 96% or 98. I noticed when I did this my bp substantially dropped to perfect levels.
