    In this video, I take an 8th Generation Honda Accord for a drive and review.
    If you're looking at a mid-size that's 7+ years old, I'd definitely take a few of these for a spin.
    They're a very reliable car and there weren't many common issues with them either.
    Considering the market value on this specific model is only about $6300 (Canadian) you get a lot for your money!

    The only thing more annoying than the cabin noise inside my Accord is the background music that you chose for this video. All kidding aside, you do a good job with this. You nailed it. Keep up the good work.

    2010 Honda Accord Automatic 4 Cylinder here, with 210,000 miles. Oil changes every 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 synthetic oil with Mobil 1 filter. I use the cheapest gas and still get 25 mpg. Rotate tires regularly, change break pads every 50-60k, transmission fluid changed at same intervals as break pads. Everything under the hood is original from the factory aside from the starter, battery, and spark plugs. Nothing else has been touched aside from air filters changed new every 40-50k. Car still runs wonderfully, can barely hear the engine when idling, never had any issues with this ride. Needs suspension work which is to be expected after that many miles. Can't recommend the Honda Accord enough. Fantastic, reliable car all day every day. Japanese are #1.

      I have an 08 EX-L sedan with the 4 cylinder and also only replaced the starter, battery, and plugs under the hood, well except for the clip that holds the hood prop rod and the protective boot/cover for the battery positive terminal which broke off. For some stupid reason they made it so if the hood prop rod is flopping around, it's possible it can touch the battery positive terminal if the protective boot breaks off. I found an OEM piece online for less than $20 and it was easy to change. Minor stuff, all things considered.
      I have never done a full change on the trans fluid. I also have the automatic. I would love to change it but have heard conflicting stories on whether it's wise to do especially with close to 200k miles. I have added fluid to it from time to time. Also thought about draining a little, like 25%, and refilling. A master mechanic who I trust told me it's probably best to not drain and refill it at this point. I also saw a video of a guy doing it himself who said to change it 3x (yes, three times) on the same day, with short test drives in between, and this would alleviate any issues that could pop up from having missed the correct intervals. It drives and shifts perfectly fine, but the trans is just about the only major item on this car I worry about.

    • @DiamondScuff
      @DiamondScuff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dr.bunterhidenbrobruh5502 The biggest issue people dont think of with tranmission fluid. I had an old civic 03 160k miles. I had a trans line or cooler trans line leak which eventually drained my entire transmission of all the fluid to the point it wouldnt go in gear. got it fixed and thanked the heavens it worked. If that tranmission fluid was never changed/cleaned a simple tranmission leak would of destroyed the tranmission.

    This video was helpful because the opinions were objective, neutral and fair. I always believed Honda made good quality cars but I am now shopping for my 1st used Honda and it will likely be the Accord. I need something decent on gas and good with room for the family, don't really care about speed so much. I currently drive a BMW and so the other thing I look forward to with a Honda is CHEAPER repair costs! Thanks for making more videos, greatly appreciated!

      Thanks for your comment! More reviews will be coming this summer :) Just as a precautionary note, if you are looking forward to a lower repair bill, I would stay away from the Honda's that come turbocharged, such as some of the new Civic's, the CR-V and I believe some models of the Accord as well. These engines haven't stood the test of time yet and some are already running into issues as well. Although they are more fun, they can also come with a price. All the best in shopping for a new car!

    Wife has the 2009 accord (bought late 2008). Only major issue for me is oil consumption (been good lately, more of an issue on longer trips).
    Also yrs ago had to do the steering column replacement (not a recall). This is where the steering wheel “clicks” when u turn it.
    114,000 ish miles on it currently in 2023. Thing is still petty solid! Seats are an issue for me though (5’10 ish). Notice cramping on longer trips (& drivers side lumbar has been broken forever).

This is a great car I do all maintenance my self from day one and all the fluids has been replaced and the brakes and spark plugs and two front windshield nothing else. The car drives great and really a low maintenance for a great driving experience. I will pass this car to my daughter as her first car. It is very reliable and fun to drive,just some road noise but I fixed it with new tires and it was a big difference those Micheline tires were good but noise it. • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Umair! Really appreciate your comment and subscription!
      In regards to which engine, both of them should do very well for you. Both the K (2.4) and J (3.5) series engines are known to be very reliable. Honda also uses the J series engines in their Odyssey, Pilot and even the Ridgeline too so that will really help with being able to find parts.
      It will come down to what you're using the car for; if you can deal with the more thirsty V6, then I'd say go that route just because that engine is a blast, especially in the Accord - Relatively light car + big V6 engine = a ton of fun! They're faster than you'd expect for a family "economy car" haha.
      If you go with the 2.4 - the biggest things to look for are whether or not it burns oil and if you notice a rattle on cold starts. If you hear that rattle, the VTC actuator is on its way out and that's a hefty job + big labour costs. And the timing chain + tensioner should also be changed at the same time.
      The Euro Spec. Accord's had a different model of 2.4L engine that put out about 40hp more than the Accord's in North America, so I would imagine that this is either a case of the engine being tuned differently or having VTEC on both the intake and exhaust cams vs/ just the intake cam on the Accord's over here. So I'd just be more cautious when it comes to oil consumption/burning.
      I have heard that some people have run into transmission issues as well with these cars. The Accord in this video now has almost 300,000kms and the transmission is still fantastic, but I do know that it has regular maintenance done to it. The fluid is flushed and the filter is changed once a year, so that really helps.
      So when test driving the car, try and listen for any funny noises at idle or while it's shifting.
      That said, if you're looking at a manual transmission then just disregard what I've mentioned above lol. The manual's are basically bulletproof - but regular fluid changes are also very beneficial.
      I hope that helps and all the best on the purchase!

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@umayrjaved Absolutely - happy to help!
      In regards to comparing the Accord and the Civic, it would depend which Civic you went with - either base model or Si. I actually have a review on an 8th generation Civic Si coming out in a couple weeks funny enough lol. Overall maintenance should be relatively close between the Civic and Accord, but with the base model Civic's, they had much more efficient engines and also don't tend to burn oil which is really nice. The Si comes with a K series engine, much like the 2.4L Accord - so you're going to want to watch out for the same things on the Si such as oil consumption and that cold start rattle.
      Also, with specifically the Si model (not sure about Australia) but over here they only came with manual transmissions, and they were known to have issues with the synchro's especially when entering 3rd gear at high rpm. So take it for a good test drive and do a couple high rpm shifts to make sure the transmission is in good shape.
      Other than that, maintenance between the Accord and Civic will be relatively similar - the suspension is a little more complex on the Accord but overall, both cars are pretty easy and inexpensive to fix. Both are great options for a reliable car :)

    Awesome loved that you popped the sunroof. I have an 08 Accord coupe with the 4 cyl and I can agree with most of the points you brought up.
    1. The annoying rattles that don’t seem to settle sometimes when riding on city streets. I am a conscious driver and can see road imperfections a quarter of a mile away.. with that being said even when I’m avoiding the pot holes, dips etc it’s a constant annoyance.
    2. My car is the 4 cyl with the 190 horsepower and I have noticed in the summer the car burns oil wayyy faster than in the cooler months.
    Now with my own questions for you.
    Do you get an ungainly rattle when starting up in the cold? It’s like soooo noticeable especially when there’s low oil in the car. Now I have been doing well with keeping up with oil changes etc. so idk if I should add oil or if there’s something else going..
    Also idk how hot your area gets but even so in the warmer months I feel like the trans clicks from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd back to 1st gear have you come across this at all. I understand both coupe and sedan variants use the same suspension components.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! :)
      Regarding your questions - it's kind of tough to tell without actually hearing the rattle or being in the car as it could be so many different things..
      Anything from a loose heat shield to valve timing, etc. However, I can report with this specific vehicle that the heat shield has come a tad loose and does rattle a bit on cold starts.
      That's a very easy fix as you can literally just get underneath the car, find which shield is causing the issue and basically rip it off. You might have to remove a small bolt/nut or two but by the time those heat shields start to rattle, they can usually just be pulled off.
      The transmission noise I haven't come across. In the summer months here it will get up to +30 to 35 Celsius (80-95 Fahrenheit) Does it only make that noise when changing gear, or also when the car is just moving at a slower speed? If it only makes the noise when the transmission shifts, then it's very likely something to do with the transmission itself vs. any suspension components. But if you can replicate the noise without the car changing gears (maybe get to a low speed in a parking lot, and put the car in neutral to see?) then it's something unrelated to the tranny.
      I hope that helps and thanks again!

    Hi, my engine overheated 2 times, because of a faulty radiator. Now I have replaced the radiator and drove around 1000km+, with the car performing the same as before it had the radiator issue. It drives smoothly and perfectly. What I'm worried about is, was the car's engine damaged by that heat? Will it reduce the longevity of the car? I plan on using it for another 10 years or so. Until I can afford a new one. Will it be reliable enough for another 200,000 kms easily? Its odo is now at 90,000 kms.
    Thanks.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Jevin, thanks for your comment. I'm glad you fixed the problem!
      The issue with an engine that's overheated is that there is potential that the block surface, or the head may have slightly warped due to the excessive heat. This can also cause wear on the head gasket.
      If you plan on keeping the car for another 10 years, I would definitely recommend looking into changing the head gasket (probably not an immediate need), and getting the surface of the block/head professionally milled to ensure that the surfaces are perfectly flat.
      However, if your car is running well now, just keep an eye on oil/coolant consumption. If your vehicle isn't burning oil, and isn't consuming any coolant then you should be fine to leave it for now - and then just look into getting the gasket changed down the road.
      I hope that helps!!

    The 2008 Accord has had two class action suits associated with it. I think one for the bad piston rings requiring the constant addition of oil and one for excessive brake wear. Looking at various car "review" sites, the 2008 Accord is a model year to avoid. And the issues with the transmission span this whole (8th) generation of Accord.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good to know, thanks for the information! I can report that this specific Accord is a 2008 and currently has over 400,000kms, and no engine or transmission issues (I’m in touch with the owner). But this car was also very well maintained though too, early oil changes, annual transmission fluid changes, brake services were frequent, etc. So that could have definitely contributed to the reliability of the car too.
      Do you know specifically which engine had the piston ring issues? I’ve heard of that for the V6 but not for the 2.4. Those K24 engines are known to easily get to 500,000kms without any problems (apart from mild engine oil burning and also the timing chain tensioner and VTC Actuator would fail early).

      Hi Kamata, my apologies for the delay in my reply. I completely missed this comment. Sorry about that.
      The Euro spec. Accord's had slightly different engines than those produced in North America. They came with a 2.0L and 2.4L but the 2.4 put out around 40hp more than the 2.4 in North America. I would imagine the engine was just tuned differently, or it could have had VTEC on both the intake and exhaust cams, where as the North American engine had VTEC only on the Intake cam. In any case, the transmission was still a 5 speed Auto so I would assume that they would all be very similar across the globe.
      For the Euro, I'd be a tad more cautious about the engine burning oil as I tend to find that the more Honda tunes up their engines, the more theey seem to consume oil especially when in VTEC.
      That said, the transmission is still doing very well on the car reviewed in the video, and it has almost 300,000kms on it now.
      All the best on your purchase!!

    Hey Great Vid, Had question looking to purchase 2011 Honda V6 90,012m $12,999. Think is good idea to bargain price down and do they have any major issues nearing that 100k mark?

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much!
      I'd say in my opinion that the price sounds pretty high, take a look around at other V6 Accords in your area to see if what's being asked is reasonable, but it sounds quite high to me.
      No real major issues to look for apart from making sure that the timing belt and tensioner was done when it was supposed to be. Also look and see if the engine has VCM which is variable cylinder management. Not sure if the V6 Accords came with that, but some Honda V6's did and it could sometimes cause oil to be sucked into the combustion chamber, burn it off and also foul plugs at the same time. You can disable that with a control module called S-VCM (www.svcmcontroller.com/). Other than that, they were solid cars. Not many issues to really look out for and TONS of fun with that V6 in them.
      Hope that helps!

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @6373hTypical timing belt intervals are anywhere between around 60,000 and 100,000 miles (or 10 years). But with the J35 engines specifically it's usually the tensioner that starts to go first. You'll hear a rattling on the passenger side of the engine bay on cold starts and then it'll go away as the vehicle warms up. If it's bad enough the noise won't go away at all. Even if that noise doesn't happen, it's good to get the job done within 10 years or 100,000 miles, but if you hear the tensioner starting to go, then try and get it done ASAP.
      Hope that helps!

I have overcome this by reclining the seat and pushing the headrest up to maximum height. A really terrible design for a headrest. That’s incredibly low mileage!
      Might be good to get a mechanic to give it a look over. At that age having not driven much, you might want to take a look at the following:
      Brakes, make sure the calipers are functioning correctly
      Suspension components, that the bushings and shock seals are not worn
      Engine bay - sometimes rubber seals are more likely to dry up and crack if not used much. Good to check for any leaks.

Sure turbo’s are fun but there’s not much that can compare to an 8200+ factory redline and also the reliability of naturally aspirated engines.
      Those K20’s were bulletproof as long as you stayed on top of regular oil changes and kept the oil topped up (they almost always burned a bit as they got older).
      Hard to go wrong with an 8th!!

    I have heard that people have issues with the transmission failing. Is there any way I can prevent it?

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Best way to prevent that would be regular changing of the Transmission filter, and fluid using Honda ATF (a very good fluid). This car takes around 3 quarts. But buy 4 just in case you need that extra bit (and you'll have some left over for the next change).
      The filter is located behind the battery and further down in the engine bay, it's a little black cylinder with 2 hoses coming out of either end and quite easy to access on these cars.
      I change mine around every 50,000kms (31,000 miles) Or once a year. It may sound like a lot but it's really not all that much more complex than changing your oil, and it REALLY helps with transmission longevity. Took me about 30 mins my first time and is much faster on subsequent changes.
      This car is currently being daily driven now and it's at 290,000kms (180,000 miles) and no transmission issues at all. Shifting is smooth as butter.
      I hope that helps!

      The biggest thing to look for on the 2.4 would be to make sure that it doesn't burn oil. They are very solid engines and will go for a LONG time, but they do tend to burn oil in the higher RPM's and oil is critical for these engines to run for a long time as they used a timing chain with a tensioner that also used oil pressure to work. I have a 2010 EXL, 235,000kms, the only problem has been a window switch. I bring the car to the mechanic every year to inspect, he never has anything to fix.

    Had a bad experience with a 2009 Honda Accord. Purchased with 127,000 miles. It looked great, drive fine BUT after about 30 days, it failed and needed pistons and gasket replaced for a $5,000 repair. There had been a class action lawsuit but the time had expired. Just thought this would be helpful for someone.

      Thanks, unfortunately, after a good year, the car was totaled while parked in front of my duplex. An unfortunate accident caused when an 80 year old had a heart attack. I am now doing due diligence to determine if we should try for a 2012 Honda Accord. You and others are convincing me that I can trust the Honda, despite our previous experience. Thank you for the videos! It was a 2015 Nissan Altima or 2012 Honda Accord. Going for the Honda!

      @@kathydickson3604 wow that’s tough. Yeah the 2012 was the same generation as the 2008 in this video. Generally speaking they were very reliable cars. Sometimes they were known to consume oil as they got older, usually nothing major but if it’s happening then it is a good idea to top up between changes.
      Apart from that, they are usually great cars :)

    is it worth to pay 9,500 usd for 2012 honda accord LX with 90,000 miles on it ??? need honest answers

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It really depends on where you're living. I'm in Canada so I can't give you a 100% accurate answer. for a 2012, 90,000 miles is quite low so that's a good thing. The best way to compare prices is to look around in your area to see what those cars are going for, with that mileage. If I was to convert to Canadian prices with that mileage then yes I'd say that's a good deal. But again I really can't say for sure

    I just bought one, and I do notice a noise when driving it sounds like it is coming from up by the dashboard. It's like a tiny plastic rattle. Very minor.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good that you don't have many rattles/noises in your car!
      The Accord that I was driving for this video had quite a bit of road noise that was getting in, just from driving. And it also had a number of things that were rattling in the interior that I had to try and fix. I did find it to be a little bit loud overall compared to other cars of this generation/era but it makes up for that by being so reliable :)

      @@KingdomAuto I was suprised that mine rattles and has any noise at all. My wifes '09 with the exact same mileage sounds and drives like a brand new car (95,000 miles). I also noticed that mine rattles a bit when in drive or reverse while the ac is on while im at a stoplight. I'm not sure if thats just the rattling of the ac compressor or if an engine mount is loose and rattling the engine a little bit when it's under load.

    • @KingdomAuto
      @KingdomAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! Maybe it's just been the Honda's that I've owned/driven in but I've found that the older ones had a ton of interior noises/rattling. It was usually due to the trim somehow and it was very noticeable. This Accord was the same story.
      I find newer ones are generally better but good to hear that your vehicles don't have the same issue!

    • @KingdomAuto

      Hey there - I think the price of vehicles will largely depend on your specific location. The amount of miles is relatively high but these cars are known to run for a long time if maintained. The Accord in this video is above 376,000 kms (233,600 miles) and running like a dream but it's also been taken care of.
      The price sounds relatively fair but I would be sure to check into a few things before purchasing:
      Big things I would pay attention to are:
      - Timing components. Has the timing chain and tensioner (and VTC gear) ever been changed? Timing tensioners are known to fail on the K series engines so that's one to be wary of. Plus the VTC actuator was also a common failure point and can be swapped at the same time as the timing chain/tensioner.
      - Does it burn oil? If so, how much?
      - Check the acceleration. At that mileage the catalytic converters might have started to clog up and you'll notice sluggish acceleration.
      Other than that, just look into the standard things (no accidents, car proof, no funny noises, no huge issues, etc) and you should be good to go.
      Hope that helps!!

    Did you know that this year Accord had an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FACTORY RECALL. You need to check if the transmission has been repaired by Honda and if NOT then take it to the DEALERSHIP and tell them to do the repair (FREE TO YOU😁). I had a fuel line Recall on my 2001 Triumph motorcycle that i bought in 2016. The Triumph Dealer replaced my entire fuel line system. (a $2000 repair bill) for FREE! Lucky Me😆🤑. They MUST do the repair by LAW and NOT CHARGE the customer.

      Great to know, thanks for the information! I owned this specific car until it had close to 400,000 kms on it but thankfully it the transmission was great for the entire time I had it. Granted, I am not sure if it had been brought back to get fixed before I owned it.
      Either way, great consumer info, thanks for sharing!

    I once had a 2008 Accord EX-L V6. I honestly didn’t like it. The seats were so uncomfortable. My neck and back were always in pain. Road noise was terrible. Too many rattles from inside the car. VCM was noticeable too on the V6 model.
