Great review as usual! I have had a couple of these for about 3 months and have been very pleased. The video quality is good and the motion sensitivity is reliable. The app is good once you get used to it. The one disappointment, that you touched on, is that to save the videos locally you must download them manually and individually. The S40 does not support the Eufy base station (which is fine), but I would like a convenient automatic (or single click) method of downloading everything on the camera to local storage. Maybe there sill be a future firmware update...

IIRC, Eufy typically has a tamper resistant setting whereby the camera will sound an alarm if someone tries to walk off with it.

On the eufy Solocam S40 you can adjust the light’s color temperature (warm/cool) and brightness intensity to minimize overexposure as seen in your demo. With the proper light exposure and color temperature in place, you can clearly see people’s faces in the dark night vs using IR.

Outstanding review - you covered all features perfectly. I have 4 Eufy cameras.. they supplement my regular 24/7 IP cameras (BlueIris). The solar is not something I would want, as the location I have placed my battery only Eufy do not get direct sun (Front Porch/Back Fence under tree). The battery Eufy claims 365 days before charging, but that is a wild estimate. I get a LOT of motion alerts. That said, I can go easily two months on a charge. It only takes a few hours then to bring the camera in to quickly charge it. I got the Base and two cameras for $199 when they first came out (now it's $100 more). The IPhone app is flawless and much more responsive than Ring. The video/image quality is excellent. Also, these intergrate well with my Eufy doorbell and two ($42) inside Eufycams. Last, that solar camera is HUGE. I prefer more "standard" and inconspicuous sized for security. Great review!!!!!

    Thank you, excellent review .
question: can I turn on/off wifi to use it as a standalone camera without connection to the network? (of course i know the app wont work without connectivity)
Is there a user interface in the camera menu or is it only configurable via the app?
how do I download the hours long recording to my laptop? Only via wifi?

Thank you for your detailed review. This was much more helpful for understanding the features and helped me weigh whether I should buy it

Picked up 2 of these. Eufy has a $80 off pack. With Tailscale I’ll be able to view recordings from anywhere while still not being attached to a cloud service.

eufy makes some sort of box. does the box store the recordings? what does it actually do?

Once again thank u for the review, if i can give you a tip/suggestion, maybe next time if it's possible for you, is to test out the motion detection sensitivity, to see how long it takes before it detect a motion, and from how far it detects it. Greetz from italy

How do you think this would do for viewing my bird feeder and bird house areas? With mounting being within 10 to 20 feet of these objects. Even mounting on a pole up close within 1 to 3 feet? Picture quality mostly.

Do you think I could plug in a Solor panel if not located in sunlight?

It would work but you're paying a lot for a functionality you won't be using on the camera. Best to get a less expensive one paired with a solar option.

You mention that the videos are stored by date, but are the individually time-tagged? How is the internal clock set? Is it updated over the internet like a computer or is it manual?
Overall, a good review. It increased my knowledge on these camera types by 90%.

This sounds good. where I would mount it at my home also happens to get a lot of sun.

Thank you for another great review. The ability to record without a WiFi connection would be a game changer. I've reached out to eufy and they've confirmed that it's possible to operate it with a mobile hotspot instead of a WiFi network but the camera needs to be connected to either a Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot all the time in order to record. If the camera loses connection to WiFi (or mobile hotspot), it stops being triggered by the PIR sensor and it stops recording to the built-in SD card. Can you confirm this? That would be extremely helpful!

Will this work with Apple homekit?

I’ll be testing it with my HOOB Server with eufy plugging, hope it works. 😅

From usage by eufy users that attached their standard cameras to a solar panel you should get to 60-70% charge but doesn’t go much higher assuming some ☀️ of course !

I’ve had this camera for a year now. The solar panel stopped charging the battery. Disappointed. Moving on.

Is it possible the battery died? (Which is expected out in the sun)

If the camera is stolen and I haven't downloaded my footage then I'm just out of luck ???

    • @LonSeidman
      @LonSeidman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Unfortunately yes as it's all stored on the camera itself.

Thanks for the video Lon. It would seem to me if you have a wifi connection with this cam, and you have a USB connection on your router, you could setup where all your video feeds download to NAS (network attached storage) that you've setup with your USB on the router. This storage can be used for other wifi cameras connected to your network too. Tell the truth, I have yet to find any software that would be used for a NAS and would be a central resource for all connected resources like cameras.

My Eufy doorbell camera's built in AI is constantly misdiagnosing car tires as humans.
