    I've had both, I really loved the sound of the m235. My 240 is full bolt on and still doesn't sound as good as my 235 with m2 factory exhaust and intake.

    In the states I’ve seen the price difference between the two with similar year, mileage, and trim options to be 5-10k. Absolutely love the b58 but if the difference in price means Stage 2 and coil overs on a cheaper m235i. Many people would be happier with the more sporty drive of the tuned m235i. But if you’re staying stock or have a bigger budget, the b58 is the better choice.

      Thank you for the feedback. It’s really eye opening seeing the bigger price difference in the states! At the end of the day both cars are amazing to drive and tune. Personally, if there was a bigger price difference in the UK, I would save some money and go for the 235i.

    One thing i'll add, in terms of mods for M235i, I bought the BM3 stage 1 tune which came with the stage 0+ tune (M2 tune). While the stage 1 is fun for the gobs of torque, ive found myself using the M2 tune way more. Like you mentioned in the vid, the linear behavior of that is fantastic. Basically it builds power in a very linear fashion, and just keeps pulling all the way to redline. Plus m2 exhaust... prolly one of the best sounding OEM bmw exhausts out there haha.

    I purchased a 2020 M240xi with the intention of replacing my 2015 M235xi. But, for the exact reasons Kaz mentioned, I kept my M235xi and sold my M240xi.The M240xi did not provide the same level of road feedback as the M235xi, but the top end torque of B58 is substantially higher than N55. And I'm not missing the M240xi. I even test drove 2022 M240xi, the way it felt was closer to 2020 M240xi, tons of power, but didn't get the mechanical feel. The steering felt disconnected. Since we are on the topic, I test drove a 2017 M2 as well, I didn't feel it was that much different than M235xi, but definitely it had more power.

    I discovered another neat little car that rose to the top of my list as my next option. The M240i. It also has the B58. So my next choices are a Supra, M240i, or M4. I am leaning towards the M240i because of the price, B58, and extra space. I will contact Darwinpro to see if their F22/M2 spoiler wing fits on the M240i. It is the best wing on the market for the 2 series BMW cars, and I rarely see it on any cars in pictures. This is what I am thinking about as my next car. I have researched the F82 M4 and A90 Supra. Now I have discovered this neat little M240i car with the x-Drive option. I think my next car in the future will be a 2017-2020 M240i because of the price, AWD x-Drive option, it has the B58 engine, and it has the extra car space I like. I don't like the appearance of the next generation of 2 series cars. I saw one yesterday at Best Buy. 2017-2020 are the years I will choose. I have a stock 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 right now. The car is already becoming rare. Save it and wait for the value to increase, or sell it?

    • @seanpoore500
      @seanpoore500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would sell the genesis, though a really attractive and fun car, they’re not really that sought after an don’t seem to be increasing in popularity in the near future. However as far as your upcoming vehicle purchase is concerned I would stay away from the Supra a90, it seems to be a great sports car, bmw did a great job with the b58, as with the z4, but it’s not a Supra, it’s a rebadged z4. Toyota hardly we’re able to sell the mk4’s back in the day which is why they didn’t want to start from scratch with the mk5 a90 Supra. If you’re gonna get a Supra get a mk4 2jz gte, the best sports car ever built, period. Also stay away from the m240 because as he stated in the video the chassis is really harsh and lacks confidence. M4 is cool, s55 not s58, but do you have m4 money? Than buy an mk4 supra. Also m2 competition and especially m2cs is better drivers car than any car you mentioned

    I’m surprised by suspension difference between the two. Have you checked the option list to see if one has adaptive dumpers?
    My m235i, a BMW UK media press car, comes with adaptive dumpers and is more compliant on bumpy roads. Even on motorways, if you reach spirited speeds, I prefer the softer mode.
    I haven’t driven the b58. But n55 does sound awesome when you punch 6k or 7k rpm, and gives a very linear feel. Also later cars lose the leather covering around the gear selector, even for an autobox.

    24:46 is broski okay they obviously only made subtle differences to the 240i its a face lift. Its a lci (life cycle impulse ) not and entirely new generation most if not all lci bmw only have subtle changes mostly to do with the front and rear light and on occasion front bumpers engine etc like the g20 3 series and the lci g20 3 series have less subtle changes to them and its a perfect example of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it because the pre lci g20 m sport 3 series looks better than the lci m sport 3 series especially the back bumper on the lci dosent look good tbh

    N55 lacks low down torque compared to the b58 they need to be worked to get best out them where as the b58 doesn’t , the b58 doesn’t fall off a lot over 5000 rpm , poss issues with yours if it does, the chassis I’m sure they have diff spring rates on the rear b58 stiffer springs hence bouncy / crashy and early m135/ m235 heard have under body brace , n55 do sound better and are a great engine also but b58 that bit better ..

    B58 is the better engine! It Can handle more Pressure, fuel pump an
    Intercooler are also better than the N55. The N55B30TO of the M2 have the internals of the S55 forged crankshaft, forged, piston, forged bearings, Turbo and inlet manifold are different, Butt the fuel pump is tesame as the M235i so the B58 is more easy to tune, 520 whp with stage3 turbo's on 98 octane is no problem.

    I love both cars there both amazing can’t go wrong with either but personally I’m not trying to break world records I care about sound and the driving experience witch is why I will always take the 235i over the 240i don’t get me wrong the b58 is the king m light motors when it comes to drag racing witch in my opinion is only the case because the s55 and n55 even though they been out for longer people haven’t put as much effort and rnd into them as the s58 and b58 I don’t think it has to do with the n55,s55 lack of capability because I think that honestly a kid of crap because these motors are amazing they just haven’t been shown the aftermarket love like the b58 and s58 . On top of that my farther has owned multiple n55 cars from a 2011 e90 m sport 335i and 3 more of them in South Africa to now currently buying my mother a 2011 X5 35i with the n55 which we bought December 2024 after moving to Dubai 5 moths before that and we have never ever had problems with our car all it takes is simple maintenance it’s not a Honda that can run for 75 million years without maintenance these are German cars that need maintenance and attention and they will not go wrong on you the only people calling them un reliable are the ones that are to lazy to maintain there cars 😂

    Doubt your discs are warped, most likely pad deposit on the discs a common problem on the autos, most people drive the car hard then coming to a stop light and holding there foot on the brakes causing the pad to melt to the disc. It’s easily fixed.
    And I don’t see why you feel one of the cars is unstable and not settled? When did you last check the alignment?

    • @thepetroholics
      @thepetroholics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man, will take the advice on board. The M235i has steel brakes with grooves or slots so we thought this might be less of an issue.
      My M240i’s handling absolutely sucks. The suspension of very crashy which is a problem from stock. In addition to that, the previous owner put on some super thick and wide tyres which may be contributing to the car feeling unpredictable and darty and high speeds

    • @lloyd.8272
      @lloyd.8272 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thepetroholics I would swap the wheel around on the cars if possible, guess that’s the only way to find out if the tyres a causing it.
      Up sizing the tyres while keeping the rim the same width will make the side walls have more lateral movement.
      If you look on the more track based m cars the tyres are a slight stretched fitment to improve steering response.
      Definitely check the alignment too at a reparable place not your local tyre fitter or quick fit.

    I had the m135i. Good car, but not so good as the m140i. A cooler air ist going into the engine. The Sport automatic is much better. And the m140i needs needs about one Liter Fuel fewer in every situation. I am often driving 500 km on a Highway. I choose the ECO Pro Mode and drive 130 km/h with cruise control. I need Super 95 and 6,8 l are needed by the engine.The m135i had no automatic and no cruise control. The same route, Gear 6 and 8l. On the higway is a hill. The m140i holds the highest gear -m8.Rpm at 1900. Think the torque of 500 Nm makes the difference.In a town i use D with the m140i and i need nearly 9,4l. The m135 needed 9,8l.
    160 km/h, a speed which can often been driven the m140i needs 10,8 l and the m135i needed 11,6l. If You will drive more than 230 km/h the m140i needs nearly 13 l and the m135i about 15l. At this point You see that 340 PS are better as 304 (!) ?.
    And the engine of the m140i made no problems. It is the B58 engine, also available in 340i, 540i and 740i.
    The service is done by my local delearer. After 15.000 km i wanted to change the oil. The dealer said, that is Nonsens. BMW has tested the long life oil. After 40.000 km it was dirty.The m135i i changed the oil after 15000 km. Nobody told me that it can hold 30.000 km. I think this is why the m135i had a smaller oil filter. And the m140i has sensors which watch the viscosity of the oil. Also the automatic chooses the right gear. And the torque is higher. In most cases the engine will not go over 2500rpm and changes the gear.
    I had no damage with both cars. But sitting behind the driver is no good option. And i oredered the car with runflat. No problem.The m135i also had runflat, but only one week. Impossible to drive fast. Sorry for my bad English, Google was not my friend.
    My tipp: Look for an m140i or m240i. The problems with the engine are away.
    Never buy the new m135i. It has no accelleration. You fell a little bit of power oer 3500 rpm, but at 4500 rpm the fun ist gone. Many greetings from Germany and i wish You all the very best, please no accident !

      @@benjones1180 wrapping is personal, I have seen some idiot wrap their beautiful green RS3 to black. Personally I drive gray (original BMW color) M235i I would wrap in lime green but I'm planning to upgrade in near future when new m2 comes out of Lotus Emira.
      Anyway I think his 235i shade of gray it's bit dull/boring doesn't compliment the carbon fiber. But still it looks decent better than boring black m240i.

    N55 is the most fragile engine bmw ever made , so this comparison is kind of stupid, because everyone knows which one is better

      Everyone has their own definition of what ‘better’ means. Both engines have their own unique characteristics among other differences, so the answer isn’t that simple in our opinion!

      Everyone does not know. I didn't even know what engine was in the 235i, which is why I am here. I only recently discovered the M240i this week, and I am considering selling my car and buying it as my next car.

      @pinto what makes you think the n55 is a fragile engine? Because an engine that can handle twice it’s factory power figures is far from fragile, pal.

      The N55 in the m235i are far from fragile 🤣🤣🤣. Earlier versions had issues but most were fixed in later models.

      Having owned a n55 135i coupe and m140 and currently owning a n55 M2 and z4 m40i I can honestly say the N55 has a lot more character and sounds hell of a lot better, I’ve never had any reliability issues with any of them and all were tuned apart from the z4.
      Personally i would rather the m2 n55 in the z4 and have that beautiful inline 6 howl rather than that dull droning tone the z4 put outs. In stock form the performance is quite similar I felt the m2 n55 feels more alive at the top end and the z4 b58 feels stronger lower down and a bit flat after 5k in comparison.
      If I remember correctly my m140 was around 440bhp when it was stage 2 and the m2 on stage 2 did 425bhp.
      The m2 now has dorch stage 1 fuel pump and flex fuel using e30 and now 475bhp but now limited due to the turbo.
      Obviously the b58 will make more power with similar mods but I can’t say how much as I never did it. but you can’t get a b58 in a car with a lsd, big brakes and a wide body ect, so what you save in tuning your be spending elsewhere on the chassis.
      Both have there advantages and disadvantages and are awesome cars in there own right.
