    To drive american muscle cars you need american gas prices.

      As an American who lives in a gas and oil state (so prices are even lower by American standards) I totally get it. I studied abroad in London in 2008 and saw those gas prices..by the LITER not the gallon like we have in the USA...yeah I would not go with an American V8 in that world and would likely opt for the Audi.
      But since I live in the dry and hot American Southwest with 300 days of sunshine and low gas prices, the American V8 is not a problem. These cars do very much reflect the environment in which they were born. All great cars.

    in England they might cost about the same, but in the USA the base Mustang GT starts at about $10k less than a base M240i. the BMW does definitely have higher quality standards but you're paying for that with the extra money.

    I have the TT now, before I had an M135i (so basically the same as the 235i). I never get tired of looking at the TT, inside and out is gorgeous and decent room in the front seats. It feels light and nimble and goes where I point it and I like the grip and control from the Quattro (only really noticeable on wet roundabouts tbh) and it's reasonably quick but the performance feels very underwhelming after the BMW- in that there was a huge surge of torque from low revs and an incredible sound from the 6 cylinder engine that, unlike the Audi, wasn't faked. It felt bigger and heavier on the road and honestly on a twisty British B Road the TT is probably quicker- at least with me driving because it inspires more confidence.
    But if I was choosing again I think I'd take the BMW purely for the performance (and only slightly less MPG, 31 versus 33). The Mustang doesn't even get considered because the fuel and tax bills are insane in the UK

      Hi, I had a MX-5 ND1 160hp (sold it) and now am considering the 235i golf R i30N and the audi TT and TTS.
      How was your experience withe those? Should I save some more to get the m235i/TTS or get the TT 230hp? And how were the running costs?

    I'd personally choose the Mustang just from exclusivity alone (at least here in South East Asia). I've seen a couple of 918s, P1, a few LaFerraris, Huayra, Koenigsegg etc, but I have never seen a single Charger/Challenger, Camaro or Mustang!

    • @beefbroth6539
      @beefbroth6539 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's none in the dealership yet, but the one that I asked estimated it to be at least 50% more than a Golf R. Due to exclusivity markups (only a few imported per year) and engine displacement taxes.

    The great thing about any 2 series is the modification options. There are many upsides, mine now hits 60 in 3.9, can be heard from miles away with custom burble options from comfort to full race modes and can outrun most anything, including the scatpacks. There are however severe downsides. Any warranty is nullified as soon as you start adding stage upgrades, intercoolers etc, and with the fuel mapping system, I get an abysmal 11mpg.. less mgp than my hemi.... but is it worth it.. Absolutely!

  • @33tpa
    @33tpa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    m235i start at $55,000 in California. Mustang GT $31,000. Audi TT $51,000. Add the $1850 in additional sales tax and $800/year insurance premium. These are not comparable cars in the States.

    Just a bit of constructive criticism: I feel like the audio in carwow videos is not properly normalized, the volume is all over the place. I've never had that problem with e.g. Motor Trend, you always hear everything without adjusting, but with your channel I always have to crank up the speakers to hear and then brace for when it gets too loud again. I hope that I'm not the only one. Otherwise great vids, I love the content and image quality.

    2014 M235i xdrive is my daily. I'm happy. the noise inside and outside is great. It likes reving and the twinscroll turbo works great. instant 450NM @ 1300rpm. The xdrive system works great here in Switzerland..Doesn't matter if the road is dry, wet or full of snow. My weekend car is the 2014 PE R35. The m235i often uses more fuel than the r35. The m235i isn't boring at all.. and the weight ratio is 50:50..

    Good video as always Mat :) Such a little difference between about 200 bhp though.. (TT vs Mustang).. It´s all about the power to weight ratio and of course the 4wd. 200 bhp more gives you a 0-62 time improvement of 1 sec (TT vs Musang). The first 100->200 bhp gives you an improvement of maybe 4-5 seconds. It's all good tho. I like all these cars, each for it´s own reasons.

    • @nagmashot
      @nagmashot 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      it is all about dual clutch transmission vs stick shift on the fist yards... in the open real world like the Autobahn a Mustang GT flooring at 100mph would leave both TT and 2series crying out loud for more power... I have driven a 432hp Camaro stick for three years in Germany... u need to come up with a RS4 C63 or M3 if you realy wanna race a big power cheap US V8 Pony car ...

    Pretty fair comparison. All depends what your looking for.
    Daily driver is different to a fun car and the Mustang has lots of fun. I have a 2010 so not as powerful and the "ordinary" handling but still fun and no issues on normal roads really. I have owned a BMW 535 (2012) and while it went well it was boring to drive. As for the TT I have never had won and as one of the comments below says its a little like a girly car for me.
    I might be biased but I would take the Mustang for weekend fun (in a convertible) and the BMW for daily drive

    mustang is more expensive to run, but much cheaper to fix. Also cheaper up front too. There's also a huge aftermarket modding community, and if mpg is that important, you can get the ecoboost. Depends on your priorities though i guess.

    It's just my opinion but god that BMW is bland on the outside. TT is a bit small for me being 6'2" but I've had 2 before and they are good cars but I'm not into 4 cylinders and I think a car in this category needs to have a good soundtrack and that is far better in a 6 or 8 cylinder config. Mustang needs some work inside but TBH I like it because it's different and I love a V8. Great review Matt.

    I wanted a mustang but was hugely disappointed when I got inside one and felt the interior quality, it was terrible. I ended up going for an M235i and after 3 years of ownership just replaced it with an M240i which has another 50nm of torque. The beamer is faster than the Mustang even though it's down on power. I also notice this guy misquotes the 0-60 times. The M235i was 4.8 not 5 and the M240i is quicker still at 4.6. I'm getting around 33mpg in the M240i which mixed driving.

  • @SpyderRios

    The sensible buy is the BMW for sure but I would rather own the Mustang, it just looks so aggresive and cool. Although the reviewer mentions that the Audi TT looks the best I just don't see it. To me the TT looks too generic and uninspiring. The only problem with the Mustang might be it's size and interior space but then again that's not why you buy a Mustang. So to me is the Mustang in 1st, Audi TT second and BMW third. If I wanted a sport car that can haul things, I would rather go with the Focus RS.

      The Ford engine is much more reliable. Plus Ford's best cars are better than BMWs best cars. Look it up. $500,000 dollar Ford GT beat all the BMW, Audi, Ferrari, and lambos at the lama race, if I spelled that correctly. Jay Leno even said his Ford GT is a better car and a better driving car than any of his exotics. How do you explain that? 😀 Go Ford. And again Ford hasnt been in that race (the biggest race in automotive sports) in fifty years since they one it the first time they competed in it, came back fifty years later and won it again. So the moral is just because they enjoy making cars affordable for the average person, doesn't mean they aren't capable of creating better cars than the Europeans. Because winning that race proves the brand is better. And once again, it's a fucking Ford. Suck on that for a little bit 😉
