We didn't realize how good we had it back in the 80's. I went to the first concert of this mega-tour at JFK Stadium in DC. One heck of a show. A pure celebration of 80's rock. Loved the Scorpions. They sound just like they do on the record. Mathias had absolutely scintillating solos.
The 80s metal scene was pretty awesome. I'm 55 and I've been to over 80 concerts. Going to Roger Waters tomorrow night. Got to see just about every band I ever wanted to see. Some of them 5 or 6 times. Went to Monsters of Rock at the Colosseum in Los Angeles in 1988. It was pretty awesome.
That's why I'm watching this video today... we lost one of the best guitarist ever! I saw this show in Tampa, Florida and stood front row in front of EVH the whole time. The most shocking thing to me was how easy and casual he made it look, though even to this day no one comes close. His passing is the end of an era. RIP Eddie. Sad to see you go...
@Texas Outlaw When they say, "Remember the good ol' days", this was what they meant. Eddie kept flicking guitar picks at us over our heads. But the wind kept blowing them back under the stage... I wish that I had one now. Rest in peace to the amazing Eddie VanHalen. We witnessed something that people now can only dream of experiencing. How cool was that? Cheers!

I was there too, JFK stadium. Hot as hell. SOOO many people were passing out early on from the heat warm beer. VH had bad audio problems, cutting out, etc. Scorpions sounded perfect.
What a special concert this was. I saw this show on a really hot day at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado when I was 14 years old. I have never experienced a show this good other than Lollapalooza II since. WHAT A LINEUP this was! A show like this would cost $1,000 a ticket now...
I went to Monster’s of Rock at the Los Angeles coliseum! 18 years old! Yup 1988! So much fun! People squirting alcohol in our mouths from squirt bottles.. Running through mosh pits.. broke my sandle , massive food fight when Van Halen played.. so much fun, the 80’s rock/ heavy metal .. so glad I lived through those times.. the music still lives on 🤘🏻
I went to the same show... amazing concert, that food fight was epic... the people behind us had a slingshot, never knew a slice of 🍕 could fly so far...lol
I was lucky enough to see this tour at the Akron Rubber Bowl. It was June '88. I was 17, just graduated HS the week before. I left work at lunch and called on my way to the show to tell my boss I was sick and going home 😇. Bad work ethic but a memorable day I've never regretted. It was 100 degrees that day and hoses were turned on us in the front! - the energy that day was pure 80s fun ❤
I was at that show, and 16. It was a hot day in the rubber bowl! I moshed and drank more than I should have and had to watch the Scorpions laying down in the bleachers. But when Van Halen came on, the sun went down and the atmosphere was electric. It was unforgettable and my first live show ever. I think I still have one of those defective concert t-shirts we bought in the parking lot for $5. One wash and it no longer resembled a t-shirt.
Eddie had a smile on his face constantly when he was playing. I remember like it was yesterday seeing VH1 on the rack at Rainbow records when it first came out. Bought it and it changed my life. Love Sammy too but David was the voice of Van Halen to me. Always will be.
@Scary Harry Flanagan Damn! I remember that! I remember walking through the crowd on the field and seeing an older, biker looking woman screaming "Somebody threw a bottle! Somebody threw a bottle!" Damn, what a flashback!
Yep. Hot as hell. Packed down on the field. I remember EMT taking people out from the heat. Coolers all around . Bud burning 🥵🥵🔥🔥 . You could get high just standing in the crowd in the area I was in. Lol. Bud burning everywhere
Was at the Pittsburgh show! Noticing alot of footage in this documentary from 3 Rivers Stadium. Had seats in the stands. We jumped down to the floor. Was in front row by the time Dokken took the stage, right in front of George Lynch. We went downtown the night before hitting up some of the hotels trying to meet the bands. Met Kirk Hammett, he gave me a Metallica guitar pick. I said, "Kirk, do you have any picks?" He smiled and said, "yeah, um, LA Lakers!" I'm like, "um, guitar picks?" And he pulled a pick out of his pocket and gave to me. Was awesome! Just camping out for tickets for that show in March '88 was a blast! I loved camping out for tickets! That was always half of the whole concert experience.
😂whatever. I bet you wouldn't say that these days. Don is one bloated guy that can't even sing now. Jeff pilson is with Foreigner; Lynch has his own band Lynch mob and mick brown has retired. what remains is just a cover band nowadays
I saw some of these bands at the Texas Jam in the 80's. Looking back at the lineups for the Texas Jams from the late 70s to mid 80's, these were some amazing bands. Just wish they were scheduled for sometime other than the Texas summers. Brutal!
June 5, 1988 - Tampa Stadium. I was in the field when the food/trash fight started and watched as the storm rolled through as Van Halen took the stage and played through a downpour with lightning in the background of the stage.
Man i was just out of the army, came back to Saint Pete. Got a job at the Tribune. Had to work that day and I didn't have any vacation day to use. But I did get to develop the film that the photographer (Jay Nolan) brought back to the lab. Good times!
Was at the concert too. Had a terrific time. I was at the back of the stadium and remember seeing when that huge food/trash fight started. I think also they weren't selling any alcohol at convenience stores for several blocks around the stadium that day. I still have my T-shirt.
Oxford motor speedway in Maine. With they pulled the tarp off Alex van halen drum kit was so amazing it was one of my best memories. and (nobody U No) ❓ 🤟❤☮❤🤟(😪🎸☮)
I was at that show too. Me and a bunch of friends camped out there before the night of the show and party our asses off! Awesome concert! Then unfortunately the Grateful Dead camp to town the following week and there fans made such a mess of the town causing them to ban any further concerts, yet us metal fans didn't do any of that.
Yes. Twice at the same concert. I went to 2 of the 3 nights for the '81 Fair Warning tour at the L.A. Forum. Something was wrong with the guitar and he was not happy and then something went wrong with a monitor. I think someone lost their job that night.
Rice Stadium in Houston - I was 19 years old with one of my best friends (who just passed away 2 years ago). What an amazing concert! All tickets were general admission, so the field was NUTS! And it had to have been one of the hottest days ever in Houston! They'd spray firehoses to cool off the crowd but that only made it even worse - just like a sauna! A very memorable, miserable and still awesome day (and night) that I would absolutely go back and do over in a heartbeat! RIP Juder!!!
Sorry for your loss. I was there with two friends and definitely remember the heat. Sammy sang so great, so great he blew his voice out the next night in Dallas. The floor was general admission, but the bleacher seats were reserved, ours were so bad ( almost parallel with the stage) that we went down onto the floor. Great concert.
To all that didn’t grow up in the 80s. Maybe next time lol. What a time you missed! No staring at your cell phones no mass shootings… mtv played music and gas… ass or grass.
I was at the 88 MOR in Dallas for Van Halen/EVH and the Scorps, but pinch Lynch's playing made me a fan of rockin Dokken ever since. These days I'm a fan of Eric Johnson, Matthew West, MercyMe, for King & Country, Mandisa, Elevation Worship...etc...Christian music 🎶 The King is coming soon! ✝️
My Brothers and I saw 10 Texxas Jams, including the Monsters of Rock show, every one of them, from the front row, year after year. I did miss the year they did the show in Houston, but 2 of my brothers went. I was interviewed by Q-102 at this show, because they recognized us from being front row from the year before. I dropped so many f-bombs on the radio that day !!! 😂 I also have every Texas Jam t-shirt I ever bought, and I bought 5 of the official Texxas Jam Books for my Brothers, that you can get on Amazon for $20 ! These truly were the 11 greatest days of my life...
I went to this concert in Candlestick Park, SF the arena was completely full. My husband and I were close the front. Great concert !!!! THE HAIR WAS EPIC !!!
All these videos with 80's rock have hundreds of thousands/millions of views even though there isn't hardly any 80's rock bands in the mainstream. Makes me feel like the music industry doesn't want people to like 80's metal. The people sure do.
Lamestream syndicated radio is a strange and pathetic thing now. Feel so lucky to have come of age during the FM radio revolution. People now take for granted what at one time was literally a miracle .....full stereo signal on radio frequencys and underground stations playing whatever they wanted. Crank it!
I went to this show in DC with a friend of mine. We had $6 between us. Some guy we never met gave us 6 joints and 2 bottles of wine. We had a great time.
Now this is music! I wish instead of 03 I was born in 63 to experience the 80s when music was music. Everything today is too computer driver and technological. When people like VH, Metallica and so many others actually had talent!!

I was there in Memphis on that hot ass day in July. Luckily we were close enough to the stage to get soaked by a fire hose between sets. Awesome memories of some fine 80s music.

Brings a tear of joy that I got to experience this show at JFK in Philly. Stadium is long gone. What a day and night it was! 11 hours of awesome music!
I saw this tour as a teenager at the Cotton Bowl in Texas. Man it was hot that day, we were lucky and our seats were on the shaded side, lots of people passed out from heat exhaustion. The Scorpions and Metallica put on the best show. Lars had an all black Tama drum kit, sounded awesome! I think there's still some old footage of that concert, weird to think I was there in the crowd as a 17 year old.
Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth may get all the praise, but my favorite Scorps lead guitarist is Matthias Jabs. I love his mix of melody and flash in his leads.
One of the most under rated guitar players ever. He could make that thing sing one minute and wail the next. One of my favorites. But they need Herman back. He wrote all the great stuff!

Jfk was in Philly, I was also there.
@@louhytes Good times! Great memories.
It was a great time.I was a senior in highschool. An amazing show in Seattle at the Kingdome, now torndown. Have great memories.
This concert was an amazing experience. Scorpions were awesome!
Scorps always deliver. Even into this decade. Scorpions forever!
They did definitely have the better sound of any of the other bands
The 80s metal scene was pretty awesome. I'm 55 and I've been to over 80 concerts. Going to Roger Waters tomorrow night. Got to see just about every band I ever wanted to see. Some of them 5 or 6 times. Went to Monsters of Rock at the Colosseum in Los Angeles in 1988. It was pretty awesome.
EVH has left the building, on his way to Rock and Roll Valhalla, this day a Legend is come, waiting for his Crown 🤴🏻
Cheers!
@@JoeGator23 I now fully understand what my Uncle once told me about losing Hendrix and Elvis. To me, they're great but to that's only from hearing records. Having lived during the time a god walked the earth and seeing him live has an entirely different emotion attached to it. I miss Eddie already.
@@Myoldaccount-mu7of Cool to think we saw Eddie live... just lucky, because it is going to be a long, long time before that kind of talent resurfaces again. RIP Eddie! 2020
Van Hagar NEVER EVER disappoints! They play every song you want to hear! 🎸
And all the ones you don’t!
The 80’s were my time,I’m 55 yo and the 80’s are STILL my time,🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dam I miss the 80’s !!
Great concert, great bands. Scorpions sounded just like the albums.....
German precision.
IV idolized EVH since I was a young marine in calf. IV played guitar for 45years because of him. I'm a left handed acoustics player and I play country music but a lot of the principles I play I learned from watching him
It's remarkable what he could do with those six strings. He will always be loved admired and missed. RIP-EVH
Nothing!,and I mean nothing will ever ever compare and be as great as music of the 80s and concerts like this! Thank goodness I grew up as a during these great times compared to today growing up as a kid which would have been terrible. I'd love go back in time and relive it all especially the way this stupid year of 2020 has been which has been the suckiest year ever not being able to go to any concerts, praying 2021 will be better and things get somewhat back to normal and able to attend concerts again.
Miss you Eddie!!! Thanks for rocking us hard and showing us how it’s done & done right!! Hope you’re jammin’ in heaven!!
🤘😝🎸🔊🎶🎶
Was at that concert in Philadelphia Pa. The Scorpions were the best band there!
easily..... blew VH away
@@jasonnash5173 agreed 100%
I was there too, JFK stadium. Hot as hell. SOOO many people were passing out early on from the heat warm beer. VH had bad audio problems, cutting out, etc. Scorpions sounded perfect.
I still have my ticket stub from this line up at Mile High Stadium in Denver Colorado. What a long crazy day. I miss the 80's.
What a special concert this was. I saw this show on a really hot day at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado when I was 14 years old. I have never experienced a show this good other than Lollapalooza II since. WHAT A LINEUP this was! A show like this would cost $1,000 a ticket now...
My how things have changed. A truly unique time, the 80's. I'm glad to have experience those cool times.
One wash and it no longer resembled a t-shirt.
so much talent during those golden years of rock. It will never be repeated, glad that I was there to experience it.
Such an awesome memory. This was my first concert. I was 13 and went to the show at RFK stadium.
They dont have festivals like that any more bc theirs no killer bands anymore
so glad i grew up in the 70s,80s 90s so much fun
Unfortunately it comes down to the almighty dollar. Too many hands in the cookie jar nowadays.
Eddie had a smile on his face constantly when he was playing. I remember like it was yesterday seeing VH1 on the rack at Rainbow records when it first came out. Bought it and it changed my life. Love Sammy too but David was the voice of Van Halen to me. Always will be.
thx GoD i was born in 74 and i lived with these great bands
'74 is the best \m/,
Liberty Bowl Tennessee 1988, awesome show.!! Been to concerts before and after but this was the best one I ever attended.
Great show. Heat was brutal.
I remember it well. One hot ass day in Memphis 88 Liberty Bowl
@@jerrycoe765 naked titties everywhere too
I was lucky enough to see this tour in July of 1988 at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis TN. It was amazing!!!
Me Too. My Hometown. Remember The Wax Paper Cup Fight Between Scorpions And Van Halen Sets. Was 26 At The Time. Had A Blast. Seems Soo long Ago.🤘🏻🎤🎸🥁😀
I was there
I was at the RFK show. Helluva great time only in the 80's
Man...whew...Dokken...love those guys ..my fav..then and now.
I love them too.
@@ginterka381996 Yo what lmao you're subscribed to my band 😂
George Lynch was (& still is) gorgeous!!! A Built & Beautiful Guitar God!!! He gives me a "Wicked Sensation"!!!
Yes..so true
Eddie had no competition, he was the greatest. A totally unique style and sound. Listening to Van Halen music put's me in a better mood. RIP EVH.
…..Usually plays with a smile on his face

@@MidnightmidwayScreaming For Vengeance is amazing. And one of my favorite releases from ANY band.🤘
And I like LOT of bands.
Dokken is the best band on the planet. Nobody will ever be as good as Dokken.
I agree my friend
That's certainly debatable but they are a good band.
Ya...OK🤣
😂whatever. I bet you wouldn't say that these days. Don is one bloated guy that can't even sing now. Jeff pilson is with Foreigner; Lynch has his own band Lynch mob and mick brown has retired. what remains is just a cover band nowadays
@@arturoalmazan5262 Who cares at least Don is singing and ain't sychin Stanley or unplugged "literally" Crue.
Texxas Jam Dallas, TX - Those were the best years !!
I saw some of these bands at the Texas Jam in the 80's. Looking back at the lineups for the Texas Jams from the late 70s to mid 80's, these were some amazing bands. Just wish they were scheduled for sometime other than the Texas summers. Brutal!
HOUSTON TEXAS was going huge
Monsters of Rock
These people at the concert they're just so lucky. I feel like they were in paradise enjoying the best of the best.
June 5, 1988 - Tampa Stadium. I was in the field when the food/trash fight started and watched as the storm rolled through as Van Halen took the stage and played through a downpour with lightning in the background of the stage.
Mike Wazowski been lookin for this comment to verify I was in fact there as well
Was there in the old stadium watching this show. Miss that era!!!
Man i was just out of the army, came back to Saint Pete. Got a job at the Tribune. Had to work that day and I didn't have any vacation day to use. But I did get to develop the film that the photographer (Jay Nolan) brought back to the lab. Good times!
Was at that concert awesome show by all 5 bands
Was at the concert too. Had a terrific time. I was at the back of the stadium and remember seeing when that huge food/trash fight started. I think also they weren't selling any alcohol at convenience stores for several blocks around the stadium that day. I still have my T-shirt.
I was there at the meadowlands. And I wish I still was.
I saw this amazing concert at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine that year. Rain, thunder, lightning, and monster rock music. I'll never forget it.
Same here. Even while wearing a trash bag it was awesome.....
I was at the show two .🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Oxford motor speedway in Maine.
Saw this tour twice that year.
Tampa FL and Memphis TN.
Killer
Does anyone know if Eddie ever frowned? Always see him w a huge grin! RIP EVH! GOD bless you sir
I caught that grin many times photos.app.goo.gl/7MU5k63UDi29DGVK8

Nice photos! Eddie has without a doubt, been my biggest influence on guitar.
Yes. Twice at the same concert. I went to 2 of the 3 nights for the '81 Fair Warning tour at the L.A. Forum. Something was wrong with the guitar and he was not happy and then something went wrong with a monitor. I think someone lost their job that night.
I was at this concert when they started the tour at alpine Valley in Wisconsin. My friend won Eddie's monsters of rock guitar
@JK 64 was at the first one ..couldn't see a piece of lawn..it was crazy packed
Remember the sod being ripped up and it started raining dirt, sod and energy of youthfulness. Was there for opening night as well.
@HaveMercyMissPercy Now THAT would have been a great show! Very cool.
@HaveMercyMissPercy ❤
Seen this show at Candlestick park San Francisco 1988, best concert I ever went to, miss seeing Van Halen, RIP Eddie best guitarist that ever lived!
R.I.P Eddie!!! The greatest to ever do it!
I was 21 at that time and it was a great time to be young and enjoy life…
I proclaim this video: “MULLET FEST ‘88! 🤣
Hetfield was such a beast back then. 1988... such a memorable time.🤘
To all that didn’t grow up in the 80s.
These days I'm a fan of Eric Johnson, Matthew West, MercyMe, for King & Country, Mandisa, Elevation Worship...etc...Christian music 🎶
The King is coming soon! ✝️
I saw this show at Giants Stadium June 88. Metallica killed everyone. Dokken plays county fairs and Kingdom Come flip burgers in 2023.
I was at Cotton bowl in Dallas Texas with 100,000 fans. Man those were they days. Real Music. Not all this BS out now
I saw the monsters of rock tour in Houston Rice Stadium. I thank God for what my eyes have seen and what my ears have heard..
Arrowhead Stadium, Sunday, July 10, 1988.
So was I, I still have my ticket stub from that memorable show in Dallas! It was the first time I saw Metallica Live.
Jay M me too! 2nd row all day!
I also have every Texas Jam t-shirt I ever bought, and I bought 5 of the official Texxas Jam Books for my Brothers, that you can get on Amazon for $20 !
These truly were the 11 greatest days of my life...
I went to this concert in Candlestick Park, SF the arena was completely full. My husband and I were close the front. Great concert !!!! THE HAIR WAS EPIC !!!
was there also. cancelling the Sunday show and jam packing everyone into Saturday. Lots of people, one of the hottest days and they show was insane
Crank it!
Don in his prime was top five rock singers of all time! Hands down.
I was at that first show at Alpine Valley and still remember it vividly to this day.
I was there. June 15th, 1988. I was right in front of George lynch. Never forget it.
OMG no matter how many times I see a clip of Lynch soloing, I have to just zone in each time. Simply wonderful!
Ya, Brian ..I love It's Not Love Live in Philly 87
I was there, summer of '88...Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, TN...Epic show...
Saw this at Akron rubberbowl and it was my first concert at 17 and I'll never forget it .
I was there too. Great show.
I drank a little to much before the show and was sick throwing up in the big round sink by the time Van Halen made it out .Lol 😂
Scorpions were a great band !!!
I went to this show in DC with a friend of mine. We had $6 between us. Some guy we never met gave us 6 joints and 2 bottles of wine. We had a great time.
I went to that show at RFK
Now this is music! I wish instead of 03 I was born in 63 to experience the 80s when music was music. Everything today is too computer driver and technological. When people like VH, Metallica and so many others actually had talent!!
What a period! What an era th 80s
great records came out every week it doesn t matter if u liked heavy metal thrash, hair, classic hard rock, aor, speed and on and on there were always a great record or a new band to discover

I was there in Memphis on that hot ass day in July. Luckily we were close enough to the stage to get soaked by a fire hose between sets. Awesome memories of some fine 80s music.
I remember seeing this in NJ meadowlands it was a good day of ROCK AND ROLL good memories good music good times!!!!
Was there myself! Had one of the greatest experiences of my life until peeps started throwing toilet paper rolls from the upper deck during the Scorps show. Saw a girl get slammed in the head. Knew it was time to go. Never saw VH.
A peice of the rock music world is missing now R.I.P EVH 😥
I'll never forget being at this show at Giants stadium. Absolutely amazing, surprised I made it home in one peace.
2nd greatest concert I have ever seen....I was 18 years old and just graduated HS. Pink Floyd in 1994 was the best for me. I saw VH in Phila for this Monsters of Rock....
July 24, 1988. L.A. Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, CA. SCORPIONS kicked ass on everyone. \m/
Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth may get all the praise, but my favorite Scorps lead guitarist is Matthias Jabs. I love his mix of melody and flash in his leads.
Yrs I agree totally ,uli was a great technical guitarist, but Matthias is more raw and emotional in his playing which makes him bettet
Same here. Plus Matthias is plenty technical. It's always cool to claim the guys who had less success were the better players.
One of the most under rated guitar players ever. He could make that thing sing one minute and wail the next. One of my favorites. But they need Herman back. He wrote all the great stuff!
Great Playing + The Charisma of Happiness while Playing makes me more Influenced of playing guitar
As someone who went to the show in Minneapolis, I can tell you the Scorpions had the best sound of all the bands.
