James May, You skipped the part about FORD Buying the already designed and built race cars from British manufacturer, LOLA Cars Limited. FORD Proceeded to purchase two LOLA MK6's from LOLA CARS. The two cars became the test bed for the later renamed FORD GT. 😉 Lola Cars Limited is a British automobile manufacturer founded in 1958 by Eric Broadley in Bromley, England. The company is now owned by Till Bechtolsheimer, which he purchased in 2022. Lola Cars endured for more than fifty years to become one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of racing cars in the world.

Ford was not then the biggest auto company in the world, GM was. Ford has not been the largest auto maker since the days of the Model T and the Model A.
Ferrari did win over and over again thereafter including in 2019 with the 488 GTE and they never mention that right after Ford won at Le Mans Ferrari paid back at Ford's home in Daytona by taking the top three positions in the race!
Ford won at Le Mans 2 more times after their first 1,2,3 victory at Le Mans. It didn't matter after. They beat Ferrari at his game, even with Ferrari bringing the GT38 with for that year. Ford simply didn't care about Daytona. They just wanted to beat Ferrari at Le Mans.
Regardless if Ford won, Ferrari wonbthe constructors championship and on top of that best Ford on home soil, Daytona. In a 1,2,3. But at tge end, tbh, the true winner us always Ferrari, a small little company in North Italy naking the biggest car manufacturer spend millions just to beat them on track. They needed the help if English engineers, who I always going amazing never had a brand to beat a small Italian company in Ferrari, considering Itsly was destroyed in the war and England not! And ofcourse they cared about Daytona, the whole grid was full of Ford's, so stop finding excuses😂😂😂 and on American soil.
@@Happy-wb8gi Then there was this little American company called Shelby American who went over to Europe and was beating Ferrari's rear end, in fact in 1964 Enzo Ferrari begged the FIA to cancel the last race of the season because Shelby's cars were beating the Ferraris so bad that if the last race had been run Shelby American would have likely become the champion they were so much better than the Ferraris but due to Enzo Ferrari getting the last race canceled that gave Ferrari a very hollow championship. Shelby American via Alan Mann racing went on to kick Ferraris rear ends in 1965 with the Daytona Coupes, so you can park your little tiny Ferrari BS, Ferrari was like the giant company compared to Shelby American.
It's amazing what you can achieve when you really put in an effort to build something special and yet after their unimaginable success, after all these years with tons of money and people at their disposal, the best they have going for them after two models of the GT is a pickup truck. And yet, when Ford entered the GT40s the first time, the writing was on the wall at Modena: 'They're coming for us'. Even worse for them, was losing the GT category that year, to Ford powered Cobras. A sign of what was to come. After the '66 through '69 dominance of Ford, and then two years of Porsche 917 kicking their asses, Ferrari abandoned the prototype sports car racing forever, to focus solely on F1. It was the end of little companies being a dominant force in sports car racing, with McLaren giving way to Porsche, too, in the Can-Am challenge racing cup in America.
The REAL hero story is how a group of privateers in converted road cars with little hand built, idiosyncratic V12's and no factory backing held off the might of Ford international and their fleet of monster race cars for YEARS.

Enzo Ferrari sells cars to earn the money needed to race.
Ford wanted to race to sell more cars.
I like this type of video please do more the grand tour
When I finally got to watch Ford vs Ferrari, I was mentally comparing what happened in the movie to what James said in his story to see how far off the mark the movie makers were.
Love this. Highly recommend the movie that was made about it too. And the documentary of the movie is very good also.
One of the best Wars we humans have ever had. As far as I'm aware, no one lost their life. Could be wrong on that, but you get my point. But it was a good war!
Very interesting!! Must look for full version ... I😍
You can find the full version in Season 1 Episode 6
Thanks!!! . 👍🤩💕
I didn't know Hammond was the test crash driver for the ford back in the sixties!!!!

I really wish they did more documentary style segments on motoring history
What’s the Italian way you say?
Say, “That’s no good” to a $16M contract and go eat lunch…
James May,
You skipped the part about FORD Buying the already designed and built race cars from British manufacturer, LOLA Cars Limited. FORD Proceeded to purchase two LOLA MK6's from LOLA CARS. The two cars became the test bed for the later renamed
FORD GT. 😉
Lola Cars Limited is a British automobile manufacturer founded in 1958 by Eric Broadley in Bromley, England. The company is now owned by Till Bechtolsheimer, which he purchased in 2022. Lola Cars endured for more than fifty years to become one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of racing cars in the world.
So from what James May sead the Ford GT40 was made in England for a company in Slough not in America for Carroll Shelby
The "take the racing away from enzo" part was missing in ford vs ferrari. Seems a bit biased.
It is there. If you watch that part again, you'll notice they have covered it.
May was just a we lad of 60, during that great time in moto history.
? He's only 59 now... but yes, he is looking older than his years with that long grey hair.
4:20 DID THEY BLOCK THE ROAD LIKE THAT ??
Let's go and eat.
Le Mans was so awesome back in the day.
Although Ferrari was obviously an arrogant SOB. Ford was worse by a long way. So pleased they did not merge. Ferrari will always be Ferrari and the worlds Sports Car. Ford will always be "Fix Or Repair Daily"
Please do a review of the gt40 Mark 2
The story is a lot less epic when you realise, it's the biggest car company in the world with an unlimited budget against a tiny Italian workshop.
exactly... yet Ferrari is portrayed as the behemoth manufacturer. Oy vey, yanks....
Ford was not then the biggest auto company in the world, GM was. Ford has not been the largest auto maker since the days of the Model T and the Model A.
It's good to hear stories from someone who was actually there 😂
Ford went on to win all 3 places on the podium.
1:54 what shoes is James wearing?
@@mustangecoboosthpp3869 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@CombatIneffective Enzo Ferrari's "game" was F1. Ford were actually racing against American privateers in the Ferraris.
one of the best TG films
It's amazing what you can achieve when you really put in an effort to build something special and yet after their unimaginable success, after all these years with tons of money and people at their disposal, the best they have going for them after two models of the GT is a pickup truck. Ferrari is now a different level altogether. Love this story and those famous stars in the movie have a prancing horse in their collection....LOL
Ford GT won Le Mans again with the eco Boost V6 GT. This wasn't long ago. I'm sure you know that if you follow those things. Some people just can't help themselves with sneering down all the time. I'm guessing you're European.
Nice narration !! you guys now should also make a documentary type videos of famous incidence happened in motor sports, and present it with your own lens and prospective :P you can probably divide it james supporting Ferrari n Clakson supporting the Ford etc ... :)
WIN OR LOSE, ferrari.
Did Jezza ever see the film? He loves Carole Shelby.
Basically a Ford which beat Ferrari wasn't actually a Ford
American V8
No need to watch the 2hr movie on this. James summed it up perfectly! 👏🏻
Hands up - who wishes James May was their teacher in school?
And yet, when Ford entered the GT40s the first time, the writing was on the wall at Modena: 'They're coming for us'. Even worse for them, was losing the GT category that year, to Ford powered Cobras. A sign of what was to come. After the '66 through '69 dominance of Ford, and then two years of Porsche 917 kicking their asses, Ferrari abandoned the prototype sports car racing forever, to focus solely on F1. It was the end of little companies being a dominant force in sports car racing, with McLaren giving way to Porsche, too, in the Can-Am challenge racing cup in America.
Ahaha, your hater comment makes Ferrari to looke like the forever loser vs Ford and everyone else the forever winners. Come on, be real.
The REAL hero story is how a group of privateers in converted road cars with little hand built, idiosyncratic V12's and no factory backing held off the might of Ford international and their fleet of monster race cars for YEARS.
I’ve seen the movie Ford vs. Ferrari.
It was actually really good, and it set up the rivalry between Ferrari and Ford very well.
It's far from boring its actually a very good and interesting movie
@Tobias de Oliveira I enjoyed it very much, definitely worth a watch.
@Tobias de Oliveira well the movie isn't all that bad, but it is NOT historically accurate ,just keep that in mind.
They very much gave the events the Hollywood treatment, but as long as you don't treat it like a historical documentary it's a decent watch.
@Tobias de Oliveira I don't care for motor racing (outside of gaming) and I only watched it for the cast. It was a thoroughly entertaining movie with great performances and a great story. It definitely wasn't boring, so as you already had an interest in it, I think you'll like it too.
Serious pair of shoes there mate 🤣
Ah the classic underdog tale of the owner of a massive American corporation being slighted by the owner of a small, financially failing Italian company and then sinking millions upon millions of dollars into a slapdash racing program to get revenge. It warms the heart.
Also, the movie was amazing, I love James May and the GT40 is my favorite car of all time (don’t @ me bro).
But sometimes you just gotta sit back and realize how ridiculous the whole situation is, ya know?
Read the book Run Like Hell decades ago. Felt it read like a great movie. It took a while but it was a great film.
And 60 years on still nobody would have a Ford over a Ferrari given the choice 😂
Good luck on your upcoming fight Brandon. I’d love to come and watch since I’m gonna be in Nashville that day but I have a previous engagement in Nashville, and by that I mean I’m getting married 😂🎉. Also, yeah I think you’re well over 40 guns there bub.
Carroll Shelby = Texas GOAT, just like Buddy Holly and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
What a great story and only one that May could tell
Porsche! 917 ended Ford and Ferrari debate for 21 years. That’s the bigger story, and why people lust after Porsche.
Lancia vs Audi is even better.
