+Gahlok12 Ford Actually wanted to name this car the GT40 for the sake of nostalgia. But another company owns the trademark GT40 now, and they wanted ford to pay 40 Million dollars for the right to use it. GT43 would probably also infringe on this copyright. You can see why the named it GT now.
The body of this car is one of the greates ideas of all time, I mean when you see his shape you can only think in a fast car, a sports car, even if you are 4 years old or 90.
The only things the GT and the Lightning engines have in common are the 5.4L displacement, bore spacing and they both use a supercharger. GT has a completely different and extremely stronger aluminum block instead of iron. GT has much higher flowing 4 valve heads instead of garbage 2 valve heads. The GT has a much better supercharger design. The best things to compare the engine in that GT to were the 2000 Cobra R with the 5.4L 4V engine, the 2003-04 Terminator Cobra with a supercharged 4.6L 4V or maybe the 5.4L 4V Navigator or Australian Ford engines.
"GT has a completely different and extremely stronger aluminum block instead of iron." Aluminum blocks aren't stronger than iron blocks at all, let alone "extremely stronger." Aluminum is often used for high-performance engine blocks because it's much lighter than iron for a given volume and it's a better thermal conductor, not because it's stronger (engine block grade cast iron is _way_ stronger than any grade of aluminum alloy). Fortunately, engine blocks don't have to be made of a particularly strong material, because they are a non-moving, relatively unstressed part, though they do have to line the cylinder bores with iron sleeves.

ourworlds atwar yeah I was shocked too. but it just shows how unbiased they are. come on lets be real, an american car does drive good, but in terms of owning it. its a nightmare. we had 2 ford ranger and both had electrical problems right off the bat. they should focus more in making their cars reliable. they got the efficient part now, the driving, the power, a so-so styling. make the damn thing reliable and it will out sell a toyota for sure.
+MidnightFUn12 - Volkswagen is quite possibly the best European car today. I've been through 2 Jags and both were plagued with electrical problems. My sister bought a new BMW and around 6 months later, the battery cables overheated causing the battery itself to rupture and pretty much explode in its compartment in the trunk. I don't think poorly of all European cars, but they have their fair share of mechanical problems as well.
i do agree, american and european cars have some very poor quality cars, i live in the philippines where it is hot and humid. all I'm saying is american cars have it going for them and they should step up their game even further in order to dominate the market. here in my country and probablu the whole world, japanese brand dominates the market in which we can all agree they do make good and reliable cars, but downsidde and the thing about japanese cars is that they make boring design and handling cars, only good cars with good handling and designs are the gt-r the honda's and mitsubishi evo in whcih it has now been discountinued. from all of the cars in japan only 3 or 5 cars are known as a good track cars. lexus lf is overpriced in my opinion and an ugly looking sports car.

Yeah that motor is no joke...5.4liter lightning engine its very fast I was lucky enuf to drive the previous record holder the Chevy Typoon 1993...4.3literV6turbo all wheel drive vehicle no longer in production I repainted one for a customer of mine and told him I knock 50 dollars if he let me drive it he did,I swear off the line it was quick as my 1986 YAMAHA FZ 750 superbike and a lot cleaner and smoother acceration...its chain driven all wheel drive was its best feature it has 35 percent drive to the front and 65 percent to the rear...for and absolutely perfect traction balance...also keep ing the weight down an full aluminum exhaust which has its own unique sound of coolness also with no turbo lag....it idles punch the gas and rpm starts along with the turbo totally unexpected...280hp is stock but like I said no turbo lag the system worked perfect so good I heard it beat the corvette by 2 tenths in a standing 1/4 mile and the vette guys couldn't take that so they only got made for 3 years I think...but the lightning took its place at 12.5 with race tires, the Typoon was at 11 seconds being much smaller and lighter...but neither were as good looking as the original or the 2005 GT40.....thanks
Brandon Jones No way is the GT is an exotic. An exotic has to be excitingly unusual, such as a Lamborghini. The GT would fit in the sports or muscle class.
Jerry shares the GT has the same engine as a Ford F 150 PU.... It is true it is the same Block design except the GT block is aluminum. Also most all the internal parts are upgraded and a twin supercharger on top.... around 550 hp and 500 feet pounds of torque.
"EXACTLY THE SAME ENGINE FOUND IN THE FORD LIGHTNING" .........except it's an all aluminum block with dual overhead camshafts 5.4L vs a lightning cast iron block with single overhead cams 5.4L. Oh yeah, they also have different superchargers. But hey, they must be exactly the same because they share displacement size...
+Martin Obregon they stopped making blocks entirely out of cast iron like 30 years ago, all aluminum or with steel sleeves or whatever. I'm no car expert but i can tell you that much
Exactly, it's like comparing the 4.6L V8 you'd find in a Mustang GT to the aluminum block 32 Valve 4.6L V8 found in the Mustang Cobra. Just because they have the same displacement doesn't mean they're even remotely similar.
+Chayton Ruijsenaars all ford trucks with a v8 had iron blocks until the coyote 5.0l. (2011) unless you count a Lincoln aviator or some explorers. Mopar 5.7 hemi blocks are iron and about half of GM's current ls series of v8 blocks are iron. when I say iron I mean iron. a single casting that bolts screw into and the pistons ride on. no sleeves, no helicoils, one piece iron casting like they've been doing in Detroit since 1929. the 5.4l in the lightning and gt share crankshafts, a ton of ancillary hardware, primary camshaft drive (the dohc has secondary chains to drive the intake cams) the blocks are not interchangeable without some very slight modifications to either. you could take the dohc heads and bolt them to the iron block in the truck, there is enough factory hardware to get the swap to work. they are not identical, they are really similar. or like he said "pretty much exactly the same".
+Tim Bayliss "similar" and "exactly the same" are two totally different things. He said the block comes from the Ford Lightning, which it does not. They are different not only in build material but in design. The only reason parts interchange is because ford decided to do it that way to make it easier to retool their factory and produce multiple engine configurations. All modular engines have interchangeable components but that doesn't make them the same engine. Let me give you an example. The triton V10 modular components will also interchange with a 4.6L v8 2v modular. Does that mean the work truck V10 is the exact same engine as a mustang v8. Or "pretty much the exact same engine." as you put it. No....
+CWINDOWSsystem32 I remember watching the full episode years ago and it didn't have this problem. Whoever condensed it to 6 minutes probably screwed it up.
However many years later, and these Ford GT's are still undisputed speed kings that have repeatedly broken their own standing mile records, the last of which was just over 300 miles per hour - from a standstill to one mile. Oh yeah, screw the sound editor too. 👍
Just saw the movie, it takes some liberties with the facts, but Damon and Bale turned in great performances. I didn't want the movie to end because I knew it would be with Ken Miles passing....
***** it's true. they built everything else wonderfully. the electrical systems is just super bad. from random alarms and break in; faults or randomly shutting off.
I have a 5.4l modular Boss V8 in my Aussie-built Ford Falcon. It's a thing of beauty. Trying to imagine that same engine with a big-ass supercharger on top, powering a car half the size + weight. Holy F*cksticks 😮
Its funny Jeremy ended up getting rid of the car.He said it was a pile of crap.It did nothing but give him problems. It didn't surprise me,everything Ford makes is crap.
Roller Cam89 (True) But GM new vette won it 7 times in a row but not in the high category class the new GT Ford tested at Lemans track is faster than any car built included the Venom The GT Ford has New Smaller Engine and a new Trans that know one knows about with AWD it rips a corner at Lemans 200+ like glue they claim its incredable we shall see
Just to put things in perspective , the Gulf livery car is a Mk1 302 , still an animal with 550 hp available , the mk 2 GT 40 had periscope air intakes for cooling and breathing , typically clarkson got it wrong , most replicas are Mk1 with lights section lifted from a mk3 to have srteet legal light height .
If there's one car I would have over anything in the world, it would be a 2005 Ford GT. Its a timeless classic that represents American car culture and car enthusiasm all over the world. The GT was looked down on and spat on by Italian elites, but they had no idea what was coming to them. A beautiful trio of all 3 GT's finishing, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the American way. I may never afford one, but, in the event I am ever able to acquire such a piece of art, it would surely change my life. The Ford GT is the epitome of American muscle meeting British sportiness.

well, that´s more german than american
When people ask, "What's your dream car?"... I say GT40! Fu#k yeah! Coolest thing I've seen all day!
Some say, he hears the sound from a mini speaker from 5 miles away.
And that he wears headphones and doesn't hear anything
All we know is he's not the stig but, it is the sound editor.
Yes I copied other people's idea but my words are actually said like, some say blank and that blank. Other people are like some say. Some say. It's just so weird.
Fun fact jeremy clarkson owns one of this and its one of his favorite cars in which he constantly updates it.
ourworlds atwar yeah I was shocked too. but it just shows how unbiased they are. come on lets be real, an american car does drive good, but in terms of owning it. its a nightmare. we had 2 ford ranger and both had electrical problems right off the bat. they should focus more in making their cars reliable. they got the efficient part now, the driving, the power, a so-so styling. make the damn thing reliable and it will out sell a toyota for sure.
+Kevin Hodge Even with the emissions scandal?
i do agree, american and european cars have some very poor quality cars, i live in the philippines where it is hot and humid. all I'm saying is american cars have it going for them and they should step up their game even further in order to dominate the market. here in my country and probablu the whole world, japanese brand dominates the market in which we can all agree they do make good and reliable cars, but downsidde and the thing about japanese cars is that they make boring design and handling cars, only good cars with good handling and designs are the gt-r the honda's and mitsubishi evo in whcih it has now been discountinued. from all of the cars in japan only 3 or 5 cars are known as a good track cars. lexus lf is overpriced in my opinion and an ugly looking sports car.
+MidnightFUn12 he sold it years ago because he realised how unpractical the car actually is
Every GT40 reincarnation is amazing.

Would have been nice to actually hear Jerememy
Now this, this is truly one heck of a car.
Thanks for Shelby and ken...RIP
Ford gt : the killer of ferraris🇮🇹
Unpopular opinion, both the GT40 and GT (2005) still look better than the GT (2017)
What's the song at 4:55 ? It's beautiful
Hamish Fraser www.extrememusic.com/search?q=%22angels%20of%20mercy%22
its perfect except mpg...but if you can afford a gt you propably can buy gas :3
lol no shit, i bet most people spend more on insurance then gas tho.
It's quite funny to read this comment knowing that the insurance rate on a GT is cheaper then most new much cheaper sports cars.
I love how its a GT40 video and everyone's talking about a GTR. Just gasp in the absolute beauty of that car. Prettiest super car ever built.
I'm glad it's All-American
Which it isnt.
Don't ruin this for me ;_;
odorukaru too late *evil face*
You're very fast
odorukaru I happened to be online when I got your reply. And I've got a wonderfull phone that let's me reply anywhere, anytime. Except on the job or while driving, I'll get in trouble for that.
When did they start putting sex on 4 wheels?
When Aston Martin made the DB9...
When they built the 1968 Charger huehuehue
in 1964, at the Nurburgring. The GT40's first race
When the 1950s tucker car was born.
When Aston made the DB7.
I really like how the GT 40 is one of the few American cars he won’t bash on. It’s a beast of a car

Really nice video, but the quality of the sound it's awful with most of the Top Gear official vids.
Yeah that motor is no joke...5.4liter lightning engine its very fast I was lucky enuf to drive the previous record holder the Chevy Typoon 1993...4.3literV6turbo all wheel drive vehicle no longer in production I repainted one for a customer of mine and told him I knock 50 dollars if he let me drive it he did,I swear off the line it was quick as my 1986 YAMAHA FZ 750 superbike and a lot cleaner and smoother acceration...its chain driven all wheel drive was its best feature it has 35 percent drive to the front and 65 percent to the rear...for and absolutely perfect traction balance...also keep ing the weight down an full aluminum exhaust which has its own unique sound of coolness also with no turbo lag....it idles punch the gas and rpm starts along with the turbo totally unexpected...280hp is stock but like I said no turbo lag the system worked perfect so good I heard it beat the corvette by 2 tenths in a standing 1/4 mile and the vette guys couldn't take that so they only got made for 3 years I think...but the lightning took its place at 12.5 with race tires, the Typoon was at 11 seconds being much smaller and lighter...but neither were as good looking as the original or the 2005 GT40.....thanks
gahhh i hope jeremy does a review on the new ford gt!!!!
is the ford gt a muscle or exotic? (just asking)
exotic muscle
really?
jasonchen69 Yes, really. It's classic, and modern at the same time. An Exotical Beast.
Exotic.... It is not mass produced
Brandon Jones
No way is the GT is an exotic.
+Martin Obregon
they stopped making blocks entirely out of cast iron like 30 years ago, all aluminum or with steel sleeves or whatever.
No....
+Chayton Ruijsenaars That is 100% incorrect!
Both the video and sound editing were terrible. Mid 2000s trends, I guess...
+CWINDOWSsystem32
I remember watching the full episode years ago and it didn't have this problem. Whoever condensed it to 6 minutes probably screwed it up.
It's TH-cam, you fuckstick. It's only a problem on TH-cam...goddamn bunch of idiots.
However many years later, and these Ford GT's are still undisputed speed kings that have repeatedly broken their own standing mile records, the last of which was just over 300 miles per hour - from a standstill to one mile.
Oh yeah, screw the sound editor too. 👍
Ford vs Ferrari, everyone?
Just saw the movie, it takes some liberties with the facts, but Damon and Bale turned in great performances. I didn't want the movie to end because I knew it would be with Ken Miles passing....
Who came here after watching ford v ferrari movie?
As the new Ford GT was revealed earlier today, my heart still belongs to this one.
I'd sell my wife & kids for one...
gdnctr I have 3 kids and no money. Why can't a have no kids and 3 money?
Turn the music down!!!
One word for this car. Beautiful!
Too bad Ford used the worst electrical equipment ever.
the GT is a super unreliable car.
***** it's true.
they built everything else wonderfully.
the electrical systems is just super bad.
from random alarms and break in; faults or randomly shutting off.
+Sr. Wilhelm Strife your comparing to different cars bro. the vette is a sports/supercar the Mustang is a muscle car.
johnny dotson mustang is a pony car.
Decent acceleration with decent handling= pony car
This video proves that America can field an excellent super car, if we want to.
I have a 5.4l modular Boss V8 in my Aussie-built Ford Falcon. It's a thing of beauty. Trying to imagine that same engine with a big-ass supercharger on top, powering a car half the size + weight. Holy F*cksticks 😮
what's with the annoying overlaid music?
this is NOT the original video...
Its funny Jeremy ended up getting rid of the car.He said it was a pile of crap.It did nothing but give him problems. It didn't surprise me,everything Ford makes is crap.
lol
No, his complaints were about the 3rd party things that were put on the car. His only real complaint about the car was the mpg.
And what has gm built that equals this monster and won Le Mans 4 times? That's what I thought.
Roller Cam89 (True) But GM new vette won it 7 times in a row but not in the high category class the new GT Ford tested at Lemans track is faster than any car built included the Venom The GT Ford has New Smaller Engine and a new Trans that know one knows about with AWD it rips a corner at Lemans 200+ like glue they claim its incredable we shall see
nuster rab I can't wait. It looks amazing too.
