There are several methods to resolve, but here are the almost BEST TWO SOLUTIONS: A. 1. Turn off the laptop, unplug the power charger 2. Press the Fn + V + S keys at the same time and keep pressed for 40 seconds 3. Press and hold the power button for 40 seconds 4. Then turn on your laptop. B. 1. When you are in Windows, close all your open programs and windows 2. Force shutdown your laptop by holding the power for 4-6 seconds (pay attention that this method can bust your windows instalation)
Can you please explain why the option A helps whatsoever? I'm really curious what exactly this fn + s + v shortcut have done to the system while being shut down, alongside with 40s power button hold after that. It's mind-blowing it actually works. Big thanks!!!

From what others have surmised. The issue lies with the built in keyboard controller on the motherboard. I purchased a used y540-15 and was not told of its issues. Needless to say I taken royally on the deal. Keyboard work once out of ten boots. Screen is scratched severely, and there is an puncture mark in it and then TouchPad... It is weird. For me, when the keyboard decides to quit, the fn functions all work fine still. Even with the USB device descriptor error present... But when the keyboard does its not working thing. I just hold the power button for 30 seconds, and it usually comes back to life. Needless to say, I had a chat with support, and I am purchasing the mid tier warranty extension. They will check it out for me. Hopefully.
One thing that works all the time is to force shutdown your laptop by holding the power for 10s, then press it again to turn on and the keyboard works. But after a reboot the keyboard dies again and doesn't work till next force shutdown. Very shitty situation and lenovo doesn't give af.

Salut.
Having the same issue? Did you find a way to solve it?
No
hello ,did you resolve the problem? I have been trying for few days to resolve my keyboard problem.i tried everything.i could found on the internet. The problem is my half keyboard keys work and when i start after long time the laptop the keyboard works almost normally but after some time the same keys die again. Do you have any tips about my problem?
i don't have a permanent solution; but, you can also read all comments on this video, users write a lot of any other ways to resolving the problem
Salutare Daniel, ai reusit sa faci functionala tastatura ? Si eu intampin aceeasi problema, si nu mai stiu sincer ce as putea sa-i fac.
Salut Cross.
Throttle L23 needs to be replaced, or jumpers must be installed instead for diagnostics.
"throttle" meaning acceleration... so, i don't understand your commnet; please write in your own language, in rusian, i'm gonna use google translate for better understanding; thanks.
Every stupid lenovo notebok has this .... I bought most expensive lenovo notebook and it has this problem from beginning.... Horrible brand.. I will never buy Lenovo again.
Unfortunately, you are right.
Hey how are you? Did you find some solution?
hello; i, personally, did not find any solution because i don't have a laptop to test some new ways to repair. Laptop from video belong to a customer. But, guys below in comments have several ways to repair, read and check them; good luck, mate.
Thank you this methods worked for me
You're welcome 😊
@@DaneluRepairs another case is accidentally activating a keyboard lock feature. In this case try pressing the Fn and Esc keys together to turn off the function lock
@@mouhamadousadioukandiaye299 nice to know, thank you.
I believe that this Y540 is indeed a defective product, and I think the cause of all this is due to static charge
Problems with this model is because a through Windows updates, bios was updated, and this version of bios was bad programmer.
@@DaneluRepairs Is it true that Windows updates are the cause of this issue? Because I am using Linux, not Windows.
It might be the BIOS causing the problem.
@@flawless3055 yes, bios is messed up. At some people, Bios came through Windows Updates, at others, they manualy make Bios update.
@@flawless3055 I am also using linux and have the same problem, did you find any solution?
@JoseFrancisco-hz7op: read fist comment Fixed by me, that solution should work
I know way to fix 1 remove the plug then type in cmd shutdown -s -t 00 after that keybord will work ..from lenovo form i did get this info
@@mratm8399 nice info, i will test. Thank you 🥰
did it work for you ?
I don't know, i'll will test in future, because that notebook was not mine.
I write in a file all possible way to resolve, and soon as i put hands on this notebook model, I'll test and reply.
Is it because bios messed it up? Try downgrade the bio version perhaps and test.
when you downgrade bios, there are part from bios that will NOT downgrade; for do that, have to dissansembly mainboard, desolder chip's and program with external programmer

I had same problem. But if you turn on the computer before plug in the charger, keyboard will probably work.
Probably. But, it's a damn rubbish this situation...
that used to work for me but it stopped for some reason, now i just use an external keyboard but its annoying
holy shit that worked!
what was the issue with the laptop?
Used to work for me... not anymore. I just resigned to hibernation mode. For some reason the keyboard more reliably comes by. I don't know why, considering it still pretty much the same as shutting down.
I have finally solved the keyboard problem by replacing the laptop battery. Pretty sure everything is fine now.
UPD: It's not working after all :(
Mate, i'm glad to be the battery reason of our problem; but, i don't think so. I even remember that a guy, below in comments, think exactly like you, and in few days, problem reappear.
