Thank you Sir. You were most helpful.
I use that craft paint all the time. Working on large models and using the small bottles of expensive paint is just pointless. I save that stuff for the small models. I will say that I have found that the metallic craft paint is simply amazing. I will even say that it is better then the pricy hobby paint.
Have used Ceramcoat by Delta for over 40 years on 15mm to 120mm metal, resin, hard and soft plastic miniatures - still love it! Have been in the hobby since 1972; own complete ranges of Vallejo Model Color, Vallejo Game Color, Army Painter, extensive parts of ranges by Andrea Color, Citadel, Reaper, Life Color, Scale 75, Tamiya, and original Humbrol enamels(1970's), Genesis (the granddad of Reaper - mixed in buckets by a Sherwin Williams house paint store!), Polly S, and other hobby paints; uas well as extensive amounts of Golden, Winsor Newton, Liquitex, Grumbacher (from the 70's), and hand-mixed professional artist-grade oils and acrylics! With all of that to choose from, I still use Ceramcoat on EVERY miniature I paint - and have since I started using them 40 years ago! 👍🏻🎅👍🏻
Love these videos helps a ton for people starting out the fact that you share your information is awesome as some people would just keep them to themselves really appreciate it! sharing the love for art no more buying sideshow statues or others.....lol love your paints!
Awesome instructions, dude! I am just learning about airbrushing and your comparison video really helped me!
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for this very informative tutorial and this very clear demonstration. Excellent.
👍🏻😉🤝🏻🇨🇵
Thanks so much ! What I’ve learned should solve my airbrushing problems!
From one modeler to another great tips ! 😎👍
I’ve just started air brushing and modelling your video has been very helpful and useful 👍
You are good at faces, which always impresses me.
For what it is worth, I prefer high proof isopropyl alcohol to water. I like how it dries faster and it more dynamic to work with, an error in overdilution is momentary.
sounds good.
Thank you for making this. Love your videos!
Thanks for watching!
Great tips.....thank you
Doing some research before getting into modeling. Good painting tips. Thank you.
Very informative as usual!
Great advice. Thank you. Ive got a ton of folklore paints that I thought I was going to toss. I'll use your examples and mix up some and see how they come out.
How did they come out?
New subscriber here. Thanks for the easy to understand “how to” video. My wife uses those cheaper paints for her canvas paintings and I always sneak them to my work bench to use on my models. But it’s just for hand brushing. Not anymore 😁. Thanks again.
General concepts I’m fine with. With hours and hours spent on a project I’m reluctant to just apply my theories. Sure there’s parts you can try on. It’s awesome to have content like this for the input. Subd for sure. 👍
Thank you for the video, I use 3 coats with the cheap paint and it seems pretty good, takes time but most of my painting is not on a schedule. All brushed paint, always with at least 1 coat of gesso as a base. Keep up the great videos, going to give this a shot today. Love the hoodie!
Gesso on miniatures, won't that clog details?
Great video! Thanks for the tips!
And thank you!
Thank you for your info
Not finished video yet but already very helpful. Cheers.
this is great! No fancy mum bow jumbo
Thx for the great info...grtz from Belgium...btw I'am a member of you'r channel for a little while
very informative Henry keep up the great work
Thanks!
Thanks for this video!
My pleasure!
this is great!
great video learning a ton
Awesome, thank you!
Wow, great video. One question, how the heck did you do the inside of that Dr Strange cape. There's a video all on its own.
Thanx so much
Good tip on the tamiya. I don't often use tamity but i always did it wrong using the wrong thinner. Thanks again
Awesome to know !
Excellent informative video! New subscriber. 👍🏻🎅👍🏻
Man its all your fault thanks to you I started this hobby now happily addicted lol and finishing my first model 1/4 scale hulk from 3d wicked. With no expierience nit even doing minis just what I have learned from you and greedy 3d and ground effected i have seen all your videos keep them coming.
Great video!
Thank you!
🙏 thanks
I’m new to my airbrush. Great video to get me started. It seems difficult to get paint. How do you secure yours? Thank you!
I get mine from a local hobby shop but I also use Amazon.
As mentioned I would also like to know how you did the inside of Stranges cape..really special that is. Good vid and nice work you do.
Thanks. I just hand painted the inside based on a reference pic. The squares are already sculpted in. It took a long time to do it.
@@TheCreativeCollector Fne work..all what you do. Will subscribe. Thanks for reply. Regards
Thanks so much for this great video. Can I use Distilled water with Vallejo paints as a temporary quick fix? I have on order the Vallejo thinner but I needed this print painted before Sunday. Thanks again
Yes, absolutely.
Thank you for your video
I make cosplay ears and tails which I airbrush
however lately when i shave the fur off the fabric and airbrush my paint onto the fabric , it bleeds and spreads
this has never happened before and I am wondering
Did the fur i purchase was old and because of which when i shave the fur and paint in the fabric its smudging
or its hot because of which there is moisture in the paint which is making it spread and bleed
or something wrong with my compressor
or should i use some sort of primer before spraying
im so confused any advice would be useful
Thank you so much for this! Do you think that adding fabric medium (for example Liquitex has one) will effect the consistency and recipe?
Honestly Im not sure since I've never used that medium. You can try it maybe before you apply it.
10:15 - They're also economical because you get so much more paint in a bottle. When you can, please make a video that covers brush painting acrylic paint. I cannot afford an airbrush. Many thanks from a brand new subscriber!
Thanks! We'll see if we can get a video done for that soon.
I went to temu and got a self air powered airbrush for about $20. Its not a professional but it does work
Now that we have this how about a video on Making your own contrast paints and doing a comparison/review. I know there's many videos out there but after your slapchop video I'd be interested in your take.
Thanks. I've been thinking about that idea and may do a video on it here soon.
That’s awesome, is it possible to airbrush on mugs?! Thank you 🙏
I've never tried it on ceramic but maybe if you have a good sealer you can.
Really cool channel. I'm a new sub. ;)
Awesome 👌 and thank you!
okay for all my cheap acrylic paints paints like apple barrel paints I use windshield washer fluid and it works pretty good for me so far never had a problem
I've used clear windex before too
If it's like the washer fluid here in the USA, that's methanol based. I'm no safety nanny, (I use acetone without gloves). But methanol is the toxic kind of alcohol that should be contact minimized. (It's also why you pour off the 1st few jars when distilling and the reason freeze distilled alcohol like apple-jack gives a bad headache).
I'd suggest instead using a mix of ethanol or ipa and distilled water.
Put a stainless steel ball from a ball bearing in the paint bottle as a mixer when shaking.
Awesome video!
Quick question if I want to use acrylic paint on clothing like a pair of jeans and do a acrylic paint splatter on a pair of jeans to give some design do I need to use the medium flow product after I’ve painted my product and let it dry? So that the acrylic paint will stay once I wash the jeans in the washing machine and or keeps the acrylic paint from cracking?
I found this on Amazon:
Mont Marte Premium Acrylic Flow Medium 8.45oz (250ml)
And lastly.. I do a paint splatter design on my jeans without the medium flow product. Would it be any issue down the road with me washing the Jean material later like the cracking and peeling of the paint? Does the medium flow product seal and glue the acrylic paint to the Jean material.. Ty
You might want to look into fabric paint. Regular acrylic paint will come off over time. Fabric paint has a polymer that adheres to cloth better.

Windex works better than water for cutting the cheapest craft paint
You should 3d print a spiderman 2099 🤟
Hello can i use life color acrylic thinner for other acrylic paints such as vallejo or am i better off with still water?
If you're using craft paint then I'd go with water. Paints like Vallejo can be thinned with water or thinner.
I'm very new to this, could you please explain what a wash is and what its supposed to do?
It's basically watered down paint this allows the accented pieces to stand out.
Hi, for Vallejo paints, do you thin them if you are using normal brush or just for airbrush?
I thin them for both
Just getting into the airbrush world, once you thin the paints would you recommend storing any leftover? Also looking at making some custom colors, would you recommend mixing the paint and storing it without thinning? Any issues spraying on fiberglass?
If I have a larger batch I mixed up I'll store it with the thinner in it. Be careful though. I've seen it seperate from the thinner before and gloop up. I havent had any issues spraying on fiberglass but just make sure your surface is prepped well.
@@TheCreativeCollector as I watched your video it doesn’t seem to matter a perticilar brand or is there a good happy medium? Like one that you recommend, I’ll be spraying a large surface fiberglass fish mount replica.
Great video Henry but what is your ratio for thinning Vallejo model color for brush painting? I've watched your videos and your get great coverage with brush painting but I struggle thinning it as it comes out too thin and I wind up doing 4-5 coats to get good coverage. What's your secret? :)
I mostly just eye it. Like, I'll get a dime size dab of paint and only mix it with maybe 2 to 3 drops of reducer for brushing. And if I need to then I'll add a drop more. I just add a little at a time.
If you buy vallejo air, you don't need to thin it.
Uh yes you do. Try spraying that stuff through an airbrush with 35psi and see how quickly it clogs your tip. It's not that thin out of the bottle.
@@TheCreativeCollector I've had good success mixing 1 drop of flow improver to 3 drops paint. Then it sprays nicely
@@TheCreativeCollector It's what I've always done. And I have one of those cheap china airbrushes as well.
can you pre make and keep in a bottle or is it best to make right before?
You can definitely pre make it.
I don't do miniatures, but I'm interested to know how you do your detailed masking?
Honestly I don't mask anything. It's too time consuming so I just hand paint whatever.
As far as mixing goes the best thing you can do is find some small ball bearings and put one or two in each bottle then you can shake it up effectively
Glass beads. Bearings can rust.
Hello, can I use water to thin out my paint ? What other options?
Thank you
Yes you can!
Do you wear a ventilation mask while painting? Because I read, some of these paints may have VOCs.
If I'm spraying metallics and enamels yes. Acrylics don't have strong vocs so I wear just a mask.
Can you thin regular craft store bought primer for the airbrush ?
I haven't tried the primer but I would use a different psi for it if you tried. It tends to be thicker than normal paint.
Having trouble finding "Anita's". Is there another inexpensive craft acrylic that you'd recommend for airbrushing? Thx.
Any acrylic paint you find at Michael's or Hobby Lobby or a crate store will work.
Got it, thx@@TheCreativeCollector
Question... after painting could you use airbrush gloss and if how thiner ues?
Yes you can. Just thin it accordingly.
Hey I just watched your video on spaying uv through an airbrush. The comments are turned off so I’m commenting here but I was wondering if you’re still using this method and if there’s any draw backs
I have not. It was mainly just a small experiment to see what the results were.
Most of your vids that I've seen you skip over the priming step- just curious do you thin out your airbrush primer? If so, that's the ratio? Hopefully I didn't miss this in a video somewhere. Starting my first airbrush project and am playing catchup.
Usually I skip the priming steps because I just use a rattle can. If I use a bottled primer (which is very rare) then I just thin it the same way I do my paint.
@@TheCreativeCollector Thanks, I appreciate the reply!
Henry, do you make your own washes ?
I do some of the time but I mainly use Vallejo washes.
How much flow improver? A drop or 2?
Usually 3 drops does it
I notice your used the Vallejo that isn’t for airbrush/air. I’m guessing you can use it as long as you thin it out?
Yes. You can use pretty much any paint as long as you thin it.
@@TheCreativeCollector do you think it’s worth having Vallejo air knowing you need to thin them anyway. Seems it’s better to just buy the other sets if you need thinner anyway.
@@jonathan21151 I like both and the air series has some neat colors the regular paints don't have.
I need a lot of help, I'm new to using air brushes and idk what I'm doing, I can't afford airbrush paints so I'm using acrylic and distilled water to thin it but I can't get the consistency right, is there any way you can give me advice
I mean, this video says it all. It can be done, you just have to get the volume right, and on this video I show you how.
@@TheCreativeCollector I tried the method you recommended and the paint still came out over thinned
ultimate test is craft acrylic white gloss
Any white paint will require a few coats but can still be thinned
What about Tamiya and Mr Color as those are two different types of acrylics?
I mentioned Tamiya. Mr Color I don't use so I wouldn't know.
I have small bottles of acrilic paint but the result is bad. It paints but also spitting, if I may say. I know I'm a newbie but I've try lowing the pressure, raising it, but does the same thing. Is it the bad quality of the airbrushs because they all do it. I have two same Mastercraft pen size and a 0.8mm Yosoo pistol. This last one I bought it at $64
Maybe try and use some flow improver when you mix the paint. And you can also strain your paint too. This might help.
Does using paint with glitter or other special paints effect the air brush?
Yes if you don't clean it out. lol
@@TheCreativeCollector But they are still okay to use in a airbrush or is there something special you have to do?
Since it was alcohol ink they were thin enough to use with no problem
every time I try to mix the water and paint the paint just separates from the water I mix it with a brush but no matter how long I mix it it still separates pls respond (I use mr color btw)
Pretty sure Mr Color requires their own thinner. It's not water based
@@TheCreativeCollector ok thank you
Do you or can you spray the tamia acetone paints with an air brush ? anyone know?
You can but be sure to do it in a well ventilated area. The fumes are brutal.
@@TheCreativeCollector ty so much for reply one more qk question plz man ,,,can i spray water based acrylic paint over a actone based primer?
@@martinmccloskey4206 I'm not 100% sure. Most likely not.
Have you ever tested commercial acrylic paint similar to what you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes? Are their top brands as good for air brush work as the hobby paints you show?
It's a different type of acrylic paint due to the polymers in it plus it's not really meant to be thinned like you'd need.
how bad is the smell if you use thinner instead of water ?? or does it matter??
With paint it's not too bad, but if you're spraying a large part it can be. Just wear a respirator or mask.
Put a bolt nut in your bottle it helps with shaking the paint up
I usually use glass ball beads. That way no rust or oils from metal.
Sounds like a better way will use it thanks@@TheCreativeCollector
Which airbrush do you use?
I use a cheap $40 Master airbrush from Amazon
Tamiya mixed 50/50 with water sprays fine
I've never used water with Tamiya. Didn't know you could.
what PSI Do You use
Around 30psi
New to the craft and struggling I must say. Paints comes out like water. I have used 2 drops Vallejo thinner and 3-4 drops Vallejo surface primer. I put the thinner first and then the primer and mix it with brush but not really getting the paint effect like you ….
You might be adding too much thinner. Add an additional 2 to 3 drops of primer to that amount of thinner.
@@TheCreativeCollector thanks I will give it another go
What do you think about using the cheap craft paint as you describe on larger surfaces, like 12 inch square?
Should work fine. I use it for larger spaces so I dont use up my expensive paints.
@@TheCreativeCollector Thanks and btw, nice video, very helpful!
Would I need to wear a mask using that air brush fluid
Its a good idea to yes.
One problem that comes up with all these acrylics is once you use the paint it starts to slowly thicken and dry up around the openings. Then when you thin the paint , it does not matter how much time and effort you put into the process, any dried speck of acrylic paint will not dissolve. So if you are experiencing problems running any these paints , consider straining the paint somewhere in the process. Many cheap and easy ways to do this.
Very true! But it's near impossible to get them through a strainer without thinning them first.
Do you have a video about clear coat or sealing can you tag me thank you
I dont at the moment. I go through it in almost all of my painting videos. Not much info other than what I use.
U have to have a good online Air filter because air compressor has water straight
That's with any paint
Anyone use this method and paint for gunpla?
I have. It seems to work fine. You just have apply thin coats or you tend to get brush strokes in your work.
@@TheCreativeCollector great to hear I'm trying to get back into using my airbrush after so many failed attempts at learning how. I'll try your method thanks a lot!
Car windshield fluid and u will not have. Mixing problems

so airbrush MFG says always use thinners made by paint MFG. They have chemist that know what to do, amatuers experiment thoughts??
I've used thinners from different manufacturers for different paints. Of course they're gonna tell you to use theirs. They're not gonna put on the packaging it's ok to use whatever you want. 🤣 It's marketing for their brand.
Ain’t no way you use those printers in the background if you got models on top of those lids lol
Actually yes I do. 1 is waiting on a screen but I use the others
@@TheCreativeCollector do you take the models off every time you need to take off the lid or did you only put them up for the video?
With the limited rom I have at the moment, I have to take a couple down every now and then but mainly they're up there for the video. I'm currently working on my new space.
