My family basically has a hobby farm with a bunch of heavy machinery and a fleet of yearly 2000’s diesel Volkswagens and I don’t think you don’t have to be a heavy diesel mechanic to work on diesels, for me TH-cam is my best friend.
Did mechanics course for cars with college for 3yrs and wanted to work on cars but this year I got an apprenticeship with FedEx as a HGV mechanic. Lots of heavy lifting but it’s good pay. Hoping to stay with them for a few years then leaving once I feel like I have all the knowledge and parts info so I can do an office job somewhere in the mechanics line. Just because as a diabetic, lifting heavy things whilst managing my health, it’s quite scary and stressful if it’s not in the good range❤
Nice organized tool chest! I’ve watched many tool organization videos and have never seen two magnet bars used for combo wrenches! Great idea! Where did you get those?
I hope that brass fitting had inserts for the plastic line it will come off when it gets hot in the summer if it didn't, all plastic air line fittings have them inserts that go inside the tubing to keep the air line round and secure !
Very insightful vid, are most diesel techs paid hourly if you don’t mind sharing? I’m currently in automotive at a Honda dealership, and am curious about possibly diesel later on…
Depends. I currently work for a school district as a mechanic for the school buses (primarily) and all the other vehicles. It's hourly. I just got accepted for a city job for diesel tech at the waste management center. Hourly too.

I want to get into this field. I notice a lot of schools offer diesel technology or heavy equipment. So hard to make a decision.
I didn't go to tech or college for diesel mechanic. Was able to get into a dealership that was able to do on the job training.
If you are going to school make sure it's one that will help you get into the field afterwards and not just say okay you graduated bye
