  • Is the Audi TT a car you buy because your wife wears the trousers? In years past, perhaps. But the 2017 Audi TT RS is a little different, as Ben Griffin finds out in his Recombu Cars video review.

    RecombuCars, finally a TTRS video that reclines the seats back! That's one of the reasons the Porsche Cayman turns me off (although it's a beauty). I do enjoy reclining my seat back and taking a nice siesta during lunchtime. I also like how both the Cayman and TTRS are compact not huge like most cars in the U.S. especially the Corvette and Porsche 911.

    Smart review. I'm not an Audi guy but was shown the car at a recent visit to the dealer when looking for a Cayman S. At the price of the TT-RS the new 718 Cayman S looks terrible and the TT-RS looks like the clear winner. The 5-cylinder sound is truly outstanding. I just wonder how easy it is to tune out any remaining understeer, and if the 4wd system is capable to send enough torque to the rear wheels ( I believe it can only do 50%). Still, an impressive car not just for Audi fans.

    I've always thought these cars were sweet, and now this is giving me the difficult choice between this or 370z nismo

    • @RecombuCars
      @RecombuCars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Rodriguez The 370Z Nismo has a more old-school, brutish feel. The Audi is more sophisticated and faster, but also more forgiving, which can be a turn off for enthusiasts. I like both, but I think I'd go for the TT RS because it's easier to live with on UK roads and it sounds excellent!

    Does the TTRS have auto park system like the TT and TTS ? Or is it just park assist ?

    • @TechGamesAU
      @TechGamesAU 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      n25992 it’s just park assist i.e. rear camera and proximity sensors.

    I think for this class of cars it's less so about the performance and more so about the feeling though. With the 981 Cayman still somewhat buyable (if u can find one), TT still feels a little beaten. the sensation of nimbleness with the RWD and mid engine, and the porsche howl just wins it over this (of course this is considering that you do not care about highest speed per dollar value). Of course performance needs to exist, but as long as it's "enough" over the average joe cars, it becomes more so on the sensation of fun. Just don't feel like any torque vec or diff can replace mid engine RWD feeling of intensity or a naturally aspirated high revving engine's sound and air intakes.

    • @jonreeves7377
      @jonreeves7377 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What ' Porsche howl' ? Not with a flat four.

    • @ZDY66666
      @ZDY66666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Reeves I literally said 981, not 718....maybe pick up some common sense? *oh wait, not with that brain*

    • @jonreeves7377
      @jonreeves7377 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you are comparing a car they dont even make any more. You must be one of the brighter ones.

    • @ZDY66666
      @ZDY66666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Reeves so you're saying only new current models are worth discussing and comparing? A lot of the 2016 models are still brand new and selling at the same sticker price

    • @ZDY66666
      @ZDY66666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Reeves I'm simply speaking from pure practical perspective of what cars could be bough. 981 is definitely not yet out of the game, maybe a year down there would be absolutely zero new 981s, but used market still exists.

    RS5's steering wheel feel is said to be numb. How does the TT RS compare? You never mentioned..

    • @RecombuCars
      @RecombuCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anderson C This was shot before the RS5 arrived, hence no mention. All recent Audis have a numb feel though, even the R8 V10 Plus Convertible I had last week. It's hard to say how different, if at all, without driving both cars back to back.

    I'd agree at the bit at the beginning about the mark 1 and 2, but the hairdresser thing was (I thought) banished once the mark3 came about. Not just in looks, but also driving style which was massively improved. The stigma as you say will continue if - dare I say - motoring journos are too lazy to begin a TT review with something new to say, relevant to the latest model. Personally, I will wait for the 500hp Plus.

    • @RecombuCars
      @RecombuCars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chiro Videos TV I was tempted to ditch the usual intro, but I think the image still needs to be acknowledged. After this, perhaps not! 500hp would be brilliant, but that's R8 power and I can't see Audi wanting the two cars to be too similar in terms of output. Then again, if people are willing to pay a similar price...

    • @RecombuCars
      @RecombuCars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's difficult to get it to slide on public roads, that's for sure! But I reckon the TT RS would be more playful than you think if you took it to a track. Even without the consistency of rear-wheel drive.

    Nice review just a shame it gets spanked on just about every track by a Cayman S or an M2. Drove one recently the chassis can't decide what it's doing. Understeer to snap oversteer in a second. Didn't breed much confidence.

    • @RecombuCars
      @RecombuCars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gary Doctor I'd think the Cayman S would come closer than the M2, which is noticeably slower, less powerful and heavier if I recall the kerb weights correctly. Assuming a pro driver in both!
