First Drive: 2018 Audi TT RS and 2018 Audi RS3

  • The inline five-cylinder engine is one that should be quite familiar to fans of Audi's racing history. It will soon be familiar to fans of the latest that the German automaker has to offer and it arrives in two flavors; the new 2018 Audi TT RS and 2018 Audi RS3.
    Each comes packing 400 horsepower courtesy of an inline five-cylinder engine that's backed up by 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
    On the outside of both cars, you'll notice clues to the lively mill hiding between the fenders. The front fascia is more aggressive and the rear sport exhaust belches noise from a pair of large, black, oval exhaust tips.
    Inside you have RS stitched into the sport seats and a bit of suede mingling with leather. If you opt for the slightly more sporty TT RS, you also get the steering wheel lifted straight out of the Audi R8.
    Each car has lots of character, tremendous levels of performance, and serves up delightful noise. One has room for more to party while the other is fully focused on the task at hand.
    You can't make a wrong choice here, because either path leads you into the Audi Sport family and you have an RS-badged machine parked in your garage.
    We check both of the vehicles out on the turns of Lime Rock Park and the open road of rural Connecticut.

    The third gen TT RS is gorgeous. 400 horses from 5 cylinders? Remember when 250HP from an inline four was mind blowing? This is both mind blowing and unique in its sound. The roads around Lime Rock and Salisbury Connecticut are great. Just what you want on the East Coast - a winding rural two lane in the woods.

    What was special about the 1st gen TTRS was the 6 sp manual transmission. At least some manufacturers are still giving us the option to row our own gears.

      We both earn money to buy our cars. We are far from rich. Your comment is disgraceful. I would never wish anybody to get involved in an accident and that includes you. We are buying one car not two.

    People need to start using driving gloves again with all these alcantara steering wheels that are showing up these days. I bought and use some pleather half gloves I got off Amazon to protect my leather wheel in my Veloster N, and I've been enjoying not only wearing them, but knowing that my steering wheel will remain pristine. Nothing worse than a steering wheel that looks like it was polished with a Hershey's bar. Even if people wash their hands, the oils present on the hands will eventually wear the finish on them.

    The "2018 Audi TT RS" is built and sold since late 2016, "2018 Audi RS3" is also already carried to the customers. So why do you call them 2018 Models?

    Wish They offered it with RWD and stick shift. As is its an amazing engine note but not doing much for me. For that much money all I think about is Shelby 350GT. Also that brake wiggle would have me concerned

    would you take the rs3 or the s4, given they are the sameish price?

    • @user-kb1pj7iu6j
      @user-kb1pj7iu6j 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you're looking for out of the car really. 95% of people would be happy enough in the S4.
      RS3's a no brainier to me but you would be spending an average of probably 20% more on the RS maintenance costs.
      So a cost to own is actually what you probably want to be researching to truly compare the two over just performance numbers.
      Also 2 different engines, so 2 different paths of reliability and tune-ability...

  • @ralphskymaster5241
    @ralphskymaster5241 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The TTRS is not the RS entry model? It's actually one of the fastest... Get your facts right!!!

  • @dunny1977jd
    @dunny1977jd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Both cars would be great to own. I would get the TT RS in forest green and the RS3 in the gun metal grey. Out of the 2 cars the TT RS is basically an affordable R8, if you wanna call about $80,000 affordable. Great review as always.

    I don’t write reviews about cars. But for 65k for an audi ttrs with 400 horsepower is not worth the price. I think the Infiniti Q60 red sport is better and cheaper. But the Audi does look good 👀

      Really? The beauty of this is that you don't even know what car i own man! Why don't you just ask? I work like you do and also earn money like you do! • @ChristosSerranoThoma
      @ChristosSerranoThoma 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume a person who can afford to buy a 65k car can also get a 110k car! Or any other car at that price! point being that i think is too overpriced for what you get!

    • @AstroFantastica
      @AstroFantastica 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Do you know what it costs to run a GTR? It might not cost as much as a supercar, but it sure as hell costs as much as one to maintain and service.
      It's also not a car you want to be stuck in traffic with every day.
