      Sorry to break the bad news but the M113K are now starting to show signs for expensive repairs. A lot (mines included) have piston ring failures and every supercharger failures. To add to that MB have stopped making the superchargers. Few are having issues with the #8 cylinder especially. However, once running its a flipping animal!!!

  • @ukwan
    @ukwan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    M113K is the best V8 Mercedes ever put in a car bar none, the M119 is second..
    The M156 is a great motor but I think the 5.5L Turbo and 4.0L Turbo units that followed it are probably superior too.
    Not a fan of the M156 it's just not reliable enough and that's such an important part of a Mercedes engine.

    I owned a 2005 S55 for several years, and only had to let it go when it was totaled by hail here in Texas. I loved my S55, but thought I move up to the S63 for a replacement. And I can say that everything you talked about it true. The S55 was "bullet proof" and the only issues I had with the engine was replacing all the pulleys and belt when the supercharger pulley bearing started to make noise. This was at 110,000 miles. The S63 on the other hand, has been a VERY problematic car for me. I love the looks, love the interior, but the reliability has been very poor. I had the cam follower buckets seize in their bores, and had them all replaced, fortunately before camshaft damage. Then, shortly after (why couldn't it have happened at the same time?!) a cylinder head bolt let go, causing a slow leak of coolant into the cylinder. So, I had all the bolts and head gaskets changed on both banks. The total for those two jobs was over $7,000! Not for the faint of heart!
    But, the real reason, beyond reliability, I want to find a low mileage 2006 S55 is because of the way the engines make power. I miss the low down torque of the S55 every time I put the pedal down on the S63! And I can tell you that an S55 will murder an S63 off the line up to about 100 mph (yes, I do know for sure!). And with a modified exhaust the S55 sounds every bit as exciting as an S63. So, despite the fact that I'd be going back in time, interior (my S63 is totally loaded with night vision, power heated and cooled rear seats, rear climate controls, etc. etc) and exterior looks, I WILL OWN ANOTHER S55 AGAIN SOON! The is just no substitute for the way the S55 makes you feel, it simply monsters everything. And the next S55 will have the smaller SC pulley installed, and a tune. Plus upgraded infotainment system to bring it up to date. So, take it from someone who knows (at least with S Class cars), I'd take the monster torque and reliability of the M113K every time over the higher revs and power you have to work the "fragile" M156 too hard to get to. Even if it means an older car.
    I wonder.... Could you put an M113K in a S63???? :-)))

    • @loludied552
      @loludied552 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      the m159 variant of the 6.2l V8 should be at least quite reliable overall, because many of the issues are fixed from the m156 variant.
      I think the 6.2l V8 was designed to be more like a sports car engine by producing more peak power and but it has to be revved up a little bit more to get its peak torque (but still quite-very torquey at low revs), because for many drivers, it’s more characterful than producing a huge amounts of torque down low then producing mediocre torque high up on the rev range.
      Low end torque is very important for an everyday car and is probably why you might prefer slightly more low end torque over top end.

    M113K is a badboy. Super stout motor and easy to tune up. The low - mid range torque is instant, whilst peak power is delivered very near redline .
    Have driven a C63 204 with tune and LTH and it just felt weak down low and mid range compared to a standard M113K in my E55 K. ( And also slower on a roll race from 60-130,).

    I'm hoping you've still kept a hold of that C63, they really didn't make many in mystic blue. It's a very very rare color. The SL55 is a timeless design, the only weakness of the SL is the ABC system... As long as it's been well maintained there shouldn't be many issues... although doing a Coilover conversion makes this car a reliable daily supercar (Yes Supercar) but it destroys the value and takes away the uniqueness of the SL55.

    Do you know if there is an easy and straightforward way of supercharging the 500 (NA non AMG) M113?

    Dear Mguy,
    Would you consider doing the Spring/Strut swap on the SL55AMG?

      Possibly, if the ABC was beyond hope, but the ride is so great I would want to keep it going as long as I could...!

      @@mguytv So is that engine just as reliable as the 113k? If so why? I'm looking at the CLK now and I need to know as much as I can about it. Anymore info would truly help me a lot. Thx.

      Power’s about the same in my cars, although M156 can go much higher. Torque down from 700Nm in M113K to 600Nm in M156

    Have you ever considered the purposes of each of these cars the 113 engines the vast majority are driven by old men 5 miles per hour below the speed limit vs speed nuts who require performance

    Bro so your saying the 55 has more hp stock than the 63 ...it’s not 463 whp it 517 WHP stock but the 2005 SL 500 is 500 hp 🤔...you lost a subscriber fuxk noo I’m gone why would they make the older models faster than the newer 1 doesn’t make sense

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first M156 in the C63 only had 451HP. The M113K in the ‘55 was quoted at 460 but was actually closer to 490. So yes, stock M113K in the SL55 had more than the first version of the M156 in the C63.
