I thought that only happened in our Mexican culture. Many had 4-10 children thinking and hoping… our kids will care of us. Some think it because they prioritized raising us instead of saving for them.

We have about $20k in the bank, but we have yo-yoing credit card debt (pay it off - charge the card - hold a balance - repeat).
After watching this video I opened by banking app and paid off the credit card.
Then I opened an excel doc and looked/logged/categorized all spending from Jan to today.
I cancelled 3-4 subscriptions, cut the cost of another in half. I see that I Zelle too much money to others, and I spend WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on Amazon. Too much.
The saved money is the nest egg for when we close on our house in April (to finish the backyard - new build problems). So starting I'm the emergency savings at $5k.
Hopefully we are in a decent place now to continue the baby steps. Now that I see laid out clear as day where my money is going (to absolute nonsense), I will be able to cut those expenses.
Why do you Zelle money to others, is that buying things or what is that for? I dont actually know what Zelle is... Good work!
@@666dynomax Zelle is just an app that many banks and credit unions have integrated with. So rather than Venmo, Zelle is an alternative (and a preferred method).
The Zelle transactions were to my husband. He manages his free spending money rather poorly, so at times he’ll ask for cash here and there for whatever reason and I’ll send some over. But seeing how much it was from January-March….. it was a problem.
@@666dynomaxZelle is like Cash App or Venmo. For my banking institution is integrated with it, so no need for another money sending app. That’s all it is.

This is the episode that shows how mature children can be even with immature parents.
Though everyone loves the luxury lifestyle but many don't want to take the risk to invest or work for it.. Now's the best time to buy the dip and it's an opportunity that will grant you all the luxury you crave for.Very interesting content, i would also be glad if anyone here can explain a few things for me, this is 2024 and I believe it's my time to invest and shine for a better future.
I think the one thing most investors miss when calculating intrinsic value, is that they look solely at the history to estimate growth in the future. The growth rate is very important, it arguably should take the most time in valuation. The past 10 years could be unusually good/bad due to acquisitions/dispositions affecting financials. Look to the future and make your best judgements.
There is one thing I have learned in recent months it is to remain calm, especially when it comes to investment in Stock. Learn not to sell in a panic when everything goes down and not to buy in euphoria when everything goes up. I advise y'all to forget predictions and start making a good profit now because future valuations are all speculations and guesses.
I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.
I appreciate the implementation of ideas and strategies that result to unmeasurable progress. Being heavily liquid, I'd rather not reinvent the wheel, thus the search for a reputable advisor, mind sharing info of this person guiding you please?

My dad is a firefighter, my brother and best friend are as well… don’t marry a man (or woman) who is or has dreams to be a firefighter if you can’t handle it. It is normal to miss holidays, it is normal to have to do things without them. DONT sign up for that life if you can’t handle it.

LEO wife here. Husband spent first 14 years of career with no holidays or weekends off. You have to change your idea of traditions and make new ones. this is the first year he’s had weekends and holidays off - but to trade…he’s teaching at their training academy 1.5 hours away and isn’t home 4 days a week. We have four young boys. We foster. I homeschool. I spend a lot of time alone with my kids taking on all the home responsibilities. I can understand the hardship. But he loves what he’s doing. We love having long weekends and holidays together. We actually get to go to church together. There’s always a trade off in any career - grass is only greener on the other side for a little while. Hang in there momma and find some support! Work through it together and keep communicating so you don’t build up bitterness. ❤

Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks

I got emotional over the caller who’s mom did not celebrate her accomplishments. It cut deep. I didn’t realize I was hurting with this until you guys started talking about it. I felt so much pain. I graduated with a masters. First in my family to graduate college or to even go into college. I felt I always wanted to overachieve go get recognition from them and other people.
recognize yourself and your achievements. You do not need validation from those that did not see your growth.
I hope you have some friends who celebrate with you!
Unfortunately, in a room full of people less successful than you…it may be quite hard to find any support at all.

Broke the rules but managed to come out ahead anyways. Bought a house when I couldn't afford it in 2007, owned it 16 years, often had to borrow money to make the mortgage payments, in 2009 the market tanked and the house was valued at half of what I paid for it. Honestly don't know how I never lost the house but somehow hung on by the fingernails. Didn't even get back to break even until 2017, then the market really went crazy after that. Just sold the house in December for several times what I paid for it, was able to pay off the mortgage and all the other accumulated debt with enough equity still left to buy a less expensive house with all cash. Am somehow retiring with zero debt, owning my own home and a net worth of about half a mil. I wouldn't necessarily recommend going this route; I think I got lucky. But it does illustrate how buying a house can be a good long term investment.

Kinda said it right there though - you got lucky because you borrowed money to make the payments. Presuming this was interest-free borrowing from friends/family ... that's how you did it haha. You had a safety net through your network. Horrible idea to buy a house you know you can't afford.
I bought a house and 'could' have made the 15 year mortgage payments working two jobs but 30 year mortgage payments were more breathable and pay extra as I could. A few years later health issues came up and I couldn't work much for a few years. I was able to make the 30 year mortgage payment but I would have lost on the 15 year mortgage payments. I am so grateful I didn't 'follow the rules' and followed my gut instinct with the 30 year mortgage instead. I'm better, paid off the house in 20 years and retired in it now.
Listen to what they say and adjust it for what fits into your life.

This is absolutely true as long as you are in control of your life. If you are under age or a victim of trafficking (situations where you were not in control) that is the only time you are not responsible for what has happened in your life.
35:00 Taylor in Indiana, there is no law that says you have to have any contact with a toxic individual. That includes parents (your mother). You're an independent adult, and you can choose to not interact with her again. It's not easy, but it can be done.
Taylor you can choose not to interact. I had to stop with my siblings. I was trying to give, "mother" them and make things work. Found out the hard way that it was toxic to me. I let them go and actually have a wonderful life without them. Good luck to you.

It’s so hard to unlearn the traditions, my mom planted into my brain. We lived on credit card debt all of our lives. My parents still live on credit card debt, and every single birthday party I had was just massive and we don’t believe in credit card debt. We also don’t believe in spending obnoxious amounts of money on birthday parties and here my child is having an eight-year-old party and he’s very content but I feel like I’m not doing enough with just having a couple of decorations, a small little cheesecake, and Pizza for the kids and I feel like I’m not doing enough because I grew up with having so much birthday everything. And every moment of today’s probably going to be like just think of what David Ramsey says live on less than you make live on less than you make it’s not about how much crap the kid has, It’s about the memories that I make so, it’s a process and I’m definitely unlearning it. It is so hard Dave!!!!! But THANK YOU!!!
Remember that you have your memories, but those are not the memories your kids have. Actually, my best "birthday tip" is to rent a motel room for one night at a motel that has a pool and let the child pick just a couple of friends for a motel sleep-over. Then get pizza and a store-decorated birthday cake. Pool time, pizza, cake - and no mess to clean up at home or broken or destroyed home furnishings and actually cheaper than a big bash! Money well spent!

So you had a nice life and your child is having a mediocre one. It’s your choice. Don’t diss your parents because they lived for you. I did the same for my kids because I wanted them to have fun so when they are adults they work hard. They do. They are savers. So it worked. If you short your kids, which it sounds like your not, they could either grow up to be savers or the complete opposite of you. I’ve seen it go either way. They only have one childhood better make it nice like yours or they could be horrible spenders. You see because you had a good childhood. So you don’t spend you don’t feel like you have to. Others that had a cheap childhood don’t feel like you. They want to give themselves everything they didn’t have. Totally psychological. I talk to these folks daily it depends on their personality type. Good luck
I don't know if anyone replied to you but I never had fancy birthday parties. There was a cake and lots of birthday cards which my mom saved for me and it was great blowing out the candles and making a wish. I have photos from those years which I love. You might want to have your child or children celebrate the day they were born by doing charity work that week like helping out at a soup kitchen or going through clothes and toys and donating them to a shelter. They'll remember that they helped somebody on their birthday. And then have a cake and balloons and sing and maybe take a walk depending on the weather and take lots of pictures. And tell the story every year of how you and your spouse met and talk about the day they were born. My dad always told me what the weather was and how we took a bus to the hospital. That was a big moment in their life and now they have you!

That marriage one made me so sad. So your husband is reconnecting with his children (18months is literally nothing, is she serious!?) And since you don't wanna forgive him or rebuild/reconnect with your husband you want to rip your daughters away from their father!? She sounded so cold and disconnected, but wanted to accuse him of having (past tense!) been the same ... So sad. Kids need both parents. She couldn't even give a legit reason to leave. Our culture is so effed.

She’s a dental hygienist and makes $40,000?? How? In Virginia we all make between $70,000 to $100,000 being a hygienist. I wonder if he meant Dental assistant.
I was thinking the same thing ! RDH here in CT we make same as you mentioned 70-100k . Maybe she is working part time ? I was thinking if you want to be a dentist work more so you pay the debt off and save the rest for dental school if that is what they want to do . Definitely a challenging journey due to having little ones , demanding time from dental school, and etc. I remember when I went into hygiene school head director said tell your love ones they are second in line while your in school 🫠😬

In my neck of the woods, hygenists make $45, 000 a year.
Probably depends on the area of the country and such. They also said chiropractors make around 60k when I know mine is making at least 5x that.
FYI, Our homeowners insurance includes identity theft so check with yours first before getting a separate policy.
We had three kids in three years and my hubby was gone working states away a lot of the time to take care of us. we have been married for 19 years and are debt free and i have never worked full time. My husband is amazing. yes, he has missed some birthdays and a few Christmases but those sacrifices have set us up for the rest of our lives.

Regarding the last caller: I wanted them to ask her if there’s another guy involved. She’s so lackadaisical about destroying her marriage and the lives of her children! If I left my husband over the first 4-8 years of our children’s lives, when we were both trying to figure out how to be parents AND spouses, I would’ve made a terrible decision and ruined my children’s lives and hurt them beyond repair. So thankful God got us to where we are! It takes work, commitment, and choosing love!! Grass isn’t greener!! Don’t do what you’re about to do!!!

I wish I had a prenuptial agreement with my abusive ex. Once I decided to leave him, he tried to make me go bankrupt with lawyer fees. Had I had a prenuptial, I would not have ended up with 153K of stupid lawyer fees. I'm still paying 11 years later, but almost done.
Dave says if a man asks for a prenup he loves his stuff more than her. Well maybe she loves his stuff more than him...that happens A LOT and OFTEN. Don't let 'love' manipulate you into a bad decision later one. If she objects to a prenup THATS a red flag, too.

I feel so bad for these young people who have had to put up with these immature, cowardice, so-called parents. Sometimes in life you have to give to yourself what you wish you could get from others.
I have struggled for years to get away from and protect my children from the dysfunctional family I grew up in.
In some states, banks only have 3 years to collect credit card debt from a customer. Just do an online search for your state. My mom was a victim of credit card identity fraud and after 3 years, the banks left her alone.

You can file a police report for indentity theft online with alot of police departments. Then, you file that report with the Federal Trade Commission..it will stay on file

I needed to hear this one so much. My mother just took out 70k in loans and is expecting me to pay it back. I said no to everything she wanted to buy. Now she thinks it’s my responsibility.

I have no affiliation with debt collectors, but who do you think pays bad debt in the long term? Those who pay our bills, like you and me. So I'm not going to be as hard on debt collectors as Ramsey. They are doing a service the helps reduce our cost.
Absolutely agree. I have no idea why he constantly knocks bill collectors because for one thing, it’s their JOB. At least they have one! It’s not exactly their fault that people renege on their responsibilities! Maybe DR should make up his mind as to whether debt is good or bad, and be consistent to his brand, at least. Having a collection company after you means you haven’t been paying your bills, which means now the rest of us have to.

Dave Ramsey is completely wrong. If a person opens up a credit card in your name WITHOUT consent, then that is considered credit card fraud, and she is under no legal obligation to be responsible for the charges. What she needs to do is file a police report and identity theft report and submit it to the court and Chase Bank.
Is this satire? That's literally what they said. The only other thing they said was that the issue was she had waited 5 years to file said police report which would call it into question.

A LOT of these calls are stressed and anxious so it makes sense.

In regards to the prenup and this is for more of stay at home parents or planning to be stay at home parent GET A PRENUP. As amazing as it is being with your child at home it will cost some gaps in your resume and you will miss out on promotions etc. Make sure you and your child will be set up for success with/without your partner just in case.

My son finished dental school at 32 and went right into working at a small practice. His program had a lot of clinical work during years 3 and 4 so no residency was required and he immediately began to work. Yes, it cost almost $400K, but his income increase is making up for it, and he has a balanced home/work life.

There is another consideration for the dental hygienist call. Here in Virginia a hygienist has to work under a dentist. However, in some other states a hygienist can set up his or her own independent office. If what the wife wants is independence to "do dentistry" the way she wants to do it, perhaps consider a move to a state that would let her have her own independent hygienist business - certainly a lot cheaper than going to dental school. She could also specialize in making bridges, crowns, and other technical lab type work as an additional supplement. All that would mean she could make a lot of money, but have far fewer expenses than dental school bills and setting up a practice. My sister-in-law had her own independent hygienist business and made a ton of money before she retired.

Stephen - DO YOUR RESEARCH. The glory days of highly paid chiropractors are over. A lot of people who go to chiropractors are older. Medicare reimburses only about $18 a visit and does not pay for the x-rays, etc. that are needed before treatment. And other health insurance for younger people does not cover most of the costs. I know - my son-in-law is a chiropractor and would not choose that profession again. Thankfully, he was able to find another job as a college anatomy professor. Think about another kind of medical training that she can get inexpensively through a community college like radiology tech, nursing, etc.
Once a woman is done, they usually dont have any fight left. The sad part is the partner doesnt take it serious until they reach that point. Its hard to pick up the pieces once its so far gone. I advice people to talk before you get to that point.

Nick - please listen to the advice given. There is a lot to consider. Not only the money, but that in any kind of medical education, students are in a cohort which means they have to take certain courses at certain times - so part-time education is not possible. Another MAJOR consideration for being a dentist is if she has the small motor skills to actually do dentistry, which is quite different from hygienist work. I often talk to various professionals about what's needed for success in their profession as I do a lot of student academic counseling. My dentist is an exceptional technician and when I talked to him about the challenges of dental school, he told me so many future dentists had the ability for the book knowledge, but not the small motor skills for the technical aspect. So they bailed out and had huge debts for what they had borrowed to that point. In addition, although many physicians can work as hospitalists and a doc in the box, dentists have very few options other than the huge expense of setting up their own practices. So, between training and setting up a practice, this is about a million $ decision. And she will not just be working for the next 20 years, she can count on working for the next 30 years to make it financially viable. The reason given that she wants to be a different kind of dentist from what she has seen is not a good enough reason to want to take on this huge commitment and potential major debt. On your salary alone it will be almost impossible to cash flow this cost.

It's not how much he makes - it's how much he takes home after paying for the practice, his student loans, and the salaries and benefits of the FIVE women who work there. My point was not that a dentist does not make good money. My point was that no one knows until they start training if they are going to be good at ALL aspects of a particular job that requires high technical skills. In the meantime, they have borrowed or paid a huge sum of money for training they did not finish and end up paying for in a lower-paying job. In addition, as Dave correctly pointed out, few people realize the number of years they are "locked in" and if they truly love that work enough to stick with it for decades. According to the call, her reasoning seemed to be that she wanted to do dentistry a different way, not that she really loved dentistry.
I have a lady dentist. Late 30s. Just had her second baby. She told everyone she was gonna go p/t and work for another dentist. Women have an instinct when they have babies. Not all, but 95%. They want to spend time with either kids. Make sure she wants this, Nick.
I had my son in 1990, and we moved in 1991, leaving a forwarding address for any mail. Fast forward to 1999 when my husband and I go to buy a house, our credit score was terrible because of a doctor’s bill they never sent to us. It was for the anesthesiologist. It took a huge chunk out of our down payment. The calls were filled with profanity and screaming, upsetting my son who always loved to replay the answering machine. We took care of it but it would have been much easier to get the bill in 1990. LESSON LEARNED: ALWAYS monitor your credit report, and report errors ASAP!

Dave is correct: It is a commitment for those degrees. I'm Dave's age, but I have noticed lots of younger people having commitment issues. There are other books and resources that talk about the growing number of people with commitment issues. Just saying.
I agree. I originially wanted to be an MD, but I had a child my senior year of pre-medicine and realized I really want to be a hands on mother with my current child and future children. I'm not positive when that will happen so I'm doing an accelerated nursing program to get my healthcare fix and be fulfilled, but eventually I can step down to part time or work from home and raise a family. That means more to me than the degree that I'll or use for 10 years or less probably.

This is the only one thing I disagree with Ramsey on. It’s about not getting a trust done. It is so necessary! For one thing, no probate court also money and fees come along with that. It helps your beneficiaries, avoid certain tax’s. It illuminates beneficiaries from going to war over assets, because a will can be contested. Here in the state of Washington trust can be done for $2,500 - 3000. My wife and I are was so glad we had this time for our family. Also make co-executors of the estate. If you have more than one beneficiary!

On the student loan debt the mother and father should split that debt and pay 30k a piece which is totally manageable. Today in divorce or custody hearings it is standard to split college costs in thirds, the child pays a third and each parent pays a third .
